    Dude, when I first started watching I thought this is just going to be another boring, inexplicit, meaningless video because it kinda started out a little bit slow. Something told me to keep watching, though, and I am sure glad that I did. I think your video turned out amazing because you got straight to the point with concise explanations aided by great camera shots with good clear angles. I really enjoyed watching and I think that you deserve many more likes than the measly 93 that you have as of this writing. Way to go, keep up the good work.

    So, what's the weight penalty for swapping these M50/M52's into these earlier 87-90 325i e30's? Doesn't that make the car nose heavy and take away from the handling? Yeah, sure you get more power but I can't imagine being nearly as flickable with a heavier motor? Then again maybe this is an inappropriate question if the car is being built for drifting?

    • @TobyCatlin
      @TobyCatlin Před 6 lety

      I believe the M50 is about 20kg heavier than a M20, so yeah heavier but not that you would notice. Especially with a good suspension setup.

      Yes I do!! And there are alot of ways to deal with the brake booster. You can keep the stock one and just drill 4 new mounts holes in the firewall to move it over a little then modify the clevis a little, use a Porsche 944 brake booster, use an e30 ix brake booster and master cylinder, and a lot of other options!

    • @derkm
      @derkm  Před 5 lety +1

      Hey man! There are many transmission options and brake booster options. For transmission, im using an e36 m50 one (zf 320/310) but you can also use an e30 (getrag 260/240) i believe. With the getrag 260, you need to use a modified transmissiom crossmember but luckily Garagistic sells those. For brake booster, i used an e21 booster but you can also use an ix booster & ix master cylinder, slightly modified porsche 944 brake booster, e10 booster, or even drill new holes on the firewall to keep your stock booster. There are alot of options and they are pretty well documented online 😁

      Chris Campos people claim on doing it for less than a grand but I'd say on average, it's about 2 - 3k but can go up to any price depending if you wanna refresh the motor, get new parts, rebuild the motor etc. I spent maybe around 1-1.5k on the swap so far but I'll make a video regarding the budget and how much I spent in the future 😁

    • @derkm
      @derkm  Před 6 lety +1

    • @derkm
      @derkm  Před 6 lety

      Another way to tell if its a m50 and m52 is where the oil cap is. If its towards the firewall then its a m50; if it's towards the front of the car then its a m52.

    • @Slay6tanic
      @Slay6tanic Před 6 lety +1

      oil cap is just on the valve cover, I have both covers in my garage and both fit the m52, the one is made of plastic, thats cap is towards the front of the engine, and the metal cover has its oil cap towards the firewall, so that isnt not an accurate way to identify. just fyi - thank you for your response

    • @derkm
      @derkm  Před 6 lety

      That's true! I guess assuming the valve cover was never swapped, it might be accurate but since they can be swapped then its not for certain unless you check other things. But yeah man, no problem!
