Very good idea thanks I shares with a friend. He just made me a hatched or ax it's in the middle. Lol. But me beeing disabeld I get to hurting quick so I'm gonna over hit. So that's a great idea thanks. God bless and happy Thanksgiving
My last block splitter broke (wood handle), probably from too many overstrikes. New one is a fiberglass handle, I'm hoping it can handle the impact better.
Been there and done that!! LOL! Exactly like you said.... a long day of splitting and it is only a matter of when it happens.... Maybe you need to do a video on replacing handles next... HA! Thanks for sharing!
On my wood working tools, axes, I find any kind of over strike device to be cumbersome when choking up next to the head for fine details. I suspect may think they just look cool. Superfluous nonsense. I do like the bank line and glue you have, though, it down and dirty, practical. Some have said you can use the paracord wrap later if you need it in an emergency, right, after it has been all beat up and the cordage is broken every three inches.
I've found that with a splitting maul, overstrikes are a more efficient way to split big oak rounds. You can drive closer to the edge, entering the log at a steeper angle, bringing more lbs psi, than a further from the edge, more distributed point of contact.
Well, I do not want to contradict old wisdom so..... yeah to bank line and glue, but.... its impact shattering the wood I fear so.... maybe some kind of improvised rubber layer?
Good advice! Thank you,
Great info!

I’ve never heard of bank line, is that a common name that I could ask at a store for? Thanks, great videos.

Any kind of leather what about rawhide
Rawhide might be better never saw a rawhide over strike collar
Coalcracker Bushcraft Skillcult has an excellent video on using rawhide for an overstrike guard.
