    Michigans defensive line went up against a two time defending Joe Moore line every day in practice so there was no way they would be intimidated by Washington’s.

    Coming into the game, Washington had a bad Run Defense and they got exposed even worse via them not having ANY speed at all by the 2nd and 3rd level defenders - you had absolutely no one even come close to catching D. Edwards on those two long runs and one long one by B. Corum. Once the RBs beat the 1st level defenders, they were gone and no one else was close to catching them.

    I felt really good about Michigan's chances before both of the CFP games. Both Alabama and Washington had stellar quarterbacks, and a lot of commentators were forecasting that they would (or at least could) pick Michigan apart. But they were forgetting that, since the Covid year, Michigan was specifically built to deal with a stellar quarterback, i.e. CJ Stroud at OSU. Given the way they handled him, and the OSU team as a whole, I figured they would be fine against both Bama and Wash.

    It’s no secret Jim asked John for defensive help and coordinators (Joel Klatt has has the specific names and such), and it showed.

  • @WuAgent

    The Pac12 simply did not prepare Washington to play a team like Michigan. A conference where defense is an afterthought and teams load up on offensive skill position players and every game is a shootout. Penix missed wide open throws in this game which would have been huge because he was rattled by the pressure Michigan was bringing all game. This was simply a bad matchup for Washington.

  • @17NateJohnson
    @17NateJohnson Před 5 měsíci +7

    I was impressed with Washington, and, tbh, with a couple of breaks, they might have stolen this one. If Penix hits one of those open misses and they tie the score, then the game might have become v dicey for Michigan. It might have felt a bit like a March Madness upset. Michigan looks like the overall better team. But Washington hung around for a long time.
