    after a DD15 engine overhaul, the cylinders and the piston rings are going to wear out until the get the right tolerance. this can take a while, commonly known as break in. if during this time the engine is not used properly, this could the reason with the oil consumption issues can be created.

    Yes it happen to me I had a 1987 3406 425 cat put in a aftermarket rebult kit, with a rebuild head from cat and cut the block for liner height no# 5 and 6 holes. I go out drove truck less than 100 miles no# 5 started a piston slap ,drove it back tore it back down end up replacing the no# 5 hole ,never had a problem anymore... I did my own labor only good thing about it..

    Did you perform rebuild? Someone else could have damaged rings when installing? I know Detroit pistons come with rings but theirs a possibility a ring was bent if I was forced into the liner

    I'm driving a 2022 Frieghtliner Cascadia with the DD15 only 24 k miles and having to add 2-3 gallons every 2-3 weeks no visible oil leaks. This is a local truck direct from Freightliner no engine work done to it.

    Hi there Francisco have one question what is your take on resurfacing flywheel which freightliner dealer did on my and I didn't know it because went there for clutch change. Thanks

      Get a new flywheel or resurfaced it while clutch change. Also related installation kit new together.

    Ok! But what if the engine was rebuilt and spun a bearing again it never left shop mine never got to drive it just sitting.

      i wouldn't advice you to do any maps on it,most likely there's a difference in mechanical components.then most tuners don't understand volumetric efficiency.

      You don't tell us the engine mileage, it sounds like low compression, engine wear.??

      bro mine burns sometimes 1 gallon a day if i don't push it very hard i haul very heavy steal over 134k if you say 700 miles i will be so happy with that don't push it way to hard it will last
