Typically, in Smash, the special moves vaguely align with their directional inputs. A side b normally has a hit box to the side, an up b typically goes up, and so on. I think that's why Peach's moves got swapped. It seems way more intuitive to me for Peach to pluck turnips up from the ground with her down b. I figure the devs thought the same, and did it to make it more intuitive for newer players.

If Fire Emblem gets to have Marth, Lucina, Roy, and Chrom, there's no reason we shouldn't have Fox, Falco, Peppy and Slippy all as echoes or semiclones of each other. It'd make perfect sense given that the whole team uses the same weaponry, and having all 4 of those iconic personalities would help make the roster feel complete. Seriously, think about it. All the other characters use final smashes that are either made-up or based on something the characters have done since almost their inception. Donkey Kong is the only exception because banging on bongos didn't become his thing until the GameCube era.
Kinda weird to think about now. Some of those characters would eventually receive newer final smashes that referenced newer material, whilst Donkey Kong would go backwards and receive a new final smash that doesn't really reference anything in particular and could've easily been in Smash 64.

Even if they used Sonic's classic design (which would indeed have been the wrong move), it sounds like his moveset would've still been the same.
The only big issue with Sonic's moveset is that his Side Special is too similar to his Down Special, anyway. Otherwise, his moveset is just fine. In fact, it was rather creative of them to reference "Sonic the Fighters" for many of his attacks.

Some other moves are a bit lame, relying a bit too much on the ball aspect of Sonic or just being basic. I feel like more moves from his games (particularly Sonic Battle) could've been referenced.
Also I'm surprised Tails isn't part of his moveset at all.

Personally, I didn't like that Zelda and Sheik were separated. I am willing to accept how unpopular my opinion is, but I don't agree with Sheik being a completely separate character. Really, I don't like her being in Smash Bros at all, as she is representing significantly less of the Zelda franchise compared to the other five, but I was willing to tolerate her as part of Zelda's gimmick of swapping between a princess and a ninja. It was a bit weird keeping that around when Zelda was updated to her Twilight Princess model, but apparently Sheik was planned to be part of that game but was scrapped, so it's not like it's completely baseless. However, then they became separate characters entirely, and once this happened, in my eyes Sheik completely fell apart. On her own, Sheik doesn't feel like she's representing a Zelda character so much as the generic ninja archetype, since basically her entire kit is original Smash Bros. moves, and this is made almost entirely redundant because the very same direct that announced Sheik as a separate character was the direct that Greninja was revealed, as in a character that fits the ninja archetype that is making a serious attempt at representing their home series. What's worse is that in some ways it feels like Smash 4 treated Sheik as more important than Zelda because of this, which absolutely should not be the case. Thankfully this paradigm shifted in Ultimate, and Zelda felt like the dominant character again, but this just pushed Sheik into the background of all the better characters in the game. At this point, Sheik feels more like a Smash original character than a Zelda character, though she's not the only character I feel this way about, and considering that she's part of the Zelda universe, a universe populated with three different sizes of the same character and a villain that's still copying a different kind of character from a different universe, this makes Zelda representation in Smash Bros feel that bit more frustrating. Is her inclusion a mistake? No; she's representing arguably her series' most important title, and her origins as a part of Zelda's kit does at least loosely justify her presence in the game, and while her playstyle doesn't match mine, I know there are plenty of people happy to play as her. And I will give her this: her new Final Smash is visually one of the coolest in the game.

Before you say we have two Fire Starters already, Charizard and Incineroar are both heavyweights, while Cinderace would be lighter and faster than both of them. I doubt they'd care about type representation, considering all the sword fighters we have.

You don't need to spam this comment. Ultimately, Rillaboom is the least popular starter which is proof enough he isn't happening. As much flak as people like to give Incineroar, he was the most popular final evolution starter for gen 7 and Decidueye was the least popular. It goes to show that something is wrong when Primarina had more of a chance of happening than Decidueye who was being speculated left, right and center at the time. Ultimately Rillaboom's only shot is if they do something similar to Pokemon Trainer as Sakurai nor Gamefreak would have him be the single pokemon to market the generation through smash. Cinderace is literally being pushed hard by Gamefreak atm and is the clear Greninja of this gen so if they were to pick a standalone pick for gen 8 then its absolutely Cinderace.
I definitely think a new Pokemon is hands down the most likely character at this point and most likely one used to represent gen 8 or be a mon from gen 8 or both at that, which more or less means some kind of Trainer could be an option here but a standalone Pokemon is just as if not more probable and if so then Rillaboom would not be the pick. Much more likely to be Cinderace.

I don't know where Negative Zone (Luigi), Dragon Yoshi, and Puff Up (Jigglypuff) came from in the first place, so who knows if those wacky ideas would've still been used back then.
The ones for Donkey Kong and Pikachu would need to be different, as the DK Bongo games didn't exist yet, not did the Volt Tackle move. Pikachu would be especially tricky, as its most powerful attack back then (Thunder) is already incorporated in its standard moveset, so they'd probably have to come up with some sort of combo like dashing around and striking with Agility and Quick Attack before grabbing the character for a close range Thunder.
