- Lockdown Edition 5 is a "where-to-start-if-you're-coming-back-to-Subbuteo-after-a-while-away" special. Astrobase, Subbuteo and Zeugo starter sets are tested and demonstrated plus the draw for last competition a brand new one which will test your football knowledge..
Is there a hospital for my 2 new addictions(actually subbuteo is an old one)... Subbuteo and table football monthly? Just love it. Greetings from Belgium.
OMG! I’m 60 now but remember my Subbuteo days, I still have my World Cup Edition I’m the loft must be over 40 years old.
Excellent video thanks for making this. The comparison reviews helped a lot.
So refreshing to see a professional presentation for my favourite game, Subbuteo. Please continue. We need more people interested in this game.
Another great show. Really appreciated the chance to compare the different sets. Keep doing them, the shows are much enjoyed here.
more table football goodness, great stuff Keith
Great show as always and great review on starter sets👍
Brilliant as always cheer me up during lockdown.😃 keep up good work.
Thanks for spending the time to keep us sane and entertained!
Thanks Martin - got to keep the ball rolling :)
great show once again keith.
Great videos Keith!! You have rekindled my love of Subbuteo. I broke out my Champions League set and introduced it to my seven year old son and we are both addicted now. So much so that I've bought four additional teams off Ebay and have repainted all of them in the teams in the English League Championship. Can't wait for your next video!
Keith from Charleston SC
Great news! Send in a pic when you have a time - love to see the young 'uns playing
Excellent - once again. Insight into Subbuteo science
Thanks Rowland...always appreciated
Looking forward to seeing Tomy super cup football next time, played that so much when I was younger. I did email you about it last week lol.
Not entirely a coincidence :)
Hi there old bean, all the way from sunny hot humid Bangkok !
LOVE love love these Keith.
Idea.... you know you like your history and social links / context for table football.
Well. I love me architecture and buildings and stuff, Ever thought of doing a link to the stadium accessories and stands / terraces you could get and how they evolved with issues such as the original Archibald Leitch stadium designs, Hillsoboro and Heysel and all that? Could be an out the box exploration for you pal.
Love your work. Hope all the TFM team and TFM team's family are all doing well.
Thanks Ian...now there is a idea. Love that
This show is well made
Another fine episode - about the competition Keith, you know what i thought ? This is easy - but i got it all wrong, i thought, the lined up teams are all from the subbuteo team sheed and i looked up my poster - well, that was the 80ties edition and i could find it. Alright, its heavyweights - so i looked up Peter Uptons website in order to find those teams lined up as shown by you - and again, i could find - so, i gave up then. Fine competition anyway :-)
Keep it up boys, as I always say if people call you nerdy that is their problem! I love nerdy things because I'm smart! You could always branch out to other tabletop games if you are ever short of content. There was a pretty fun cricket game with plastic figures me and my friend used to play way back. Also I am a big fan of scalextric. Hope things keep going strong.
Just brilliant yet again Keith, thanks for this great channel. Seeing as I'm a bit of a sore loser, and to give more folks the possibility of winning, have you thought about not allowing repeat winners of the quiz? or better yet a quiz specifically for Northern Irish immigrants living on Canada's West Coast? 😊 Already looking forward to your next show.
Paul - this is genius!. The next Edition's Comp will only be available to people with the initials P.L. resident in Canada and who have deposited $ 100 in my Swiss account :)
Best idea ever Keith, thank you....however if that happened I would probably get the answer wrong :)
Can the Zeugo ball be lightly sanded to make it roll better?
Zeugo teams sound like a great idea.
I have a Pegasus Astropitch that is still stored in its large tube. I have two teams on sureshot bases: Germany and Spain.
I have yet to make a table and play The game. Time to get started. :)
HI Keith, first of your videos I've seen...and what a joy. Thank you. The lockdown scenario led me back to my old Subbuteo teams etc up in the loft..and I'm of a mind to rekindle the excitement of approx 45 years ago. Seeing your review of starter packs, and best of all using the old teams/pitch, goals etc...leads me to one equation in particular, which I hope you can help with. The flatness of pitch question... it seems you have another green cloth under the pitch. Presumably this helps keep it nice and flat. What are you using there, and is their a best method to solve this potential problem. (A constant issue back in the 70's I recall) Best , Dave
Dave - I have an old Astropitch which acts like velcro when a cotton pitch is placed over the top. It really helps with fast turnarounds when I need to film on different tables
@@TableTopYears Cheers for clearing that up. Watched a couple more of your videos this weekend..excellent stuff. Great to see about the 4-4-2 game. Fancy giving that a go too . Used to have Grand Slam back in the day. Thanks again Keith.
I played in the 70’s and 80’s, but today I just love the flat base players. I tried to buy World cup goals...but the cost just went up and up and up...😕
I have the Astrobase heavyweight set, i like the 70's pitch that come with it .But , Where are the penalty spots ?
Hi Keith; I'm in the states and look forward to your videos. One ? though: don't some discrepancies in a pitch kinda resemble a real field? great job as always!
Interesting point John - you may enjoy the next Edition as I've been thinking about that very point
My thoughts too, John. My knees would agree as well.
Neat series that is very enlightening to a novice. I’d played Tipp Kick in Germany in the 80’s but didn’t encounter Subbuteo until I saw a Tv drama that used it on a flight from the USA to Australia around 2012. Hooked and upon return home ordered a Team Edition Subbuteo set.
However in watching your episodes is see very often that you appear to be resting your thumb on the pitch when taking shots (eg 10:10 segment ). What gives? I thought the rules were you are not at all allowed to brace your hand on the thumb when flicking?
One additional question: where is part 4 of the lockdown specials? Want to see it per the balls review. Not avail on CZcams.
Keith good show . the song at the end was pretty good . did you use to be in a band ?
I just started playing subbuteo . Im using my dads old table from when he was young , im pretty familiar with the rules apart from one, do you have to tell your opponent when your about to take a shot giving them a chance to get there keeper ready for a save?
No. Once you're inside the 'shooting zone' you can be as crafty as you like :)
@@TableTopYears thanks for clearing that up!
dicen que el Zeugopich no vale para jugar a Subbuteo porque el balon se desplaza con mucha velocidad. Es cierto? Lo recomiendas?
Who remembers Sport Billy, a version of Subbuteo?
Can you iron the pitches ?
Zeugo players do play/spin well - but not so with those flatter bases. The goal nets - though - look out of scale.
Why do you want perfection in pitch? Are there perfect flat stadiums?
It's a good question....the reason is I like the players and ball to run the way they were designed - just to maximise my enjoyment. The same as playing snooker or pool. If you ask real football players which they prefer - a smooth, predictable pitch or a bumpy pitch most will choose the smooth one. It's just my choice. If other folk like a creased pitch to add unpredictability then I get it. To be honest - I find the game hard enough to play well without making things even more difficult :)
@@TableTopYears by the way.the walls have ears.but don't worry i will find you a room up in mountains of crete.
You say Sub-beau-teo, but I always called it Sub-boo-teo!!!
26:38 cloth pitches - difficult to get the line markings straight.
I used to lay mine out (on the floor), brush it with a soft shoe brush, use a cold iron on it, place 12" LP's in their sleeves ontop of it, and leave it for an hour before kick off.
In the mid 70s we decided to hold a Club World Cup which was based on the same format as had been used in the 1974 FIFA World Cup. There would be eight teams from Europe: Ajax, AC Milan, Bayern Munich, Celtic, Fenerbahce, Real Madrid, Sporting Lisbon, and the English Champions: Richmond FC (which was my older brothers team, who won it ever season), 4 from South America: Alianza Lima (Peru), FC Botafoga (Columbia) River Plate (Argentina) Santos (Brazil) + 1 from hosts Uruguay: Penarol... and then one each from North America: (Aztecs), Asia/Australasia: (Melbourne City) and Africa: Hafia FC. I got most of these names from a magazine called World Soccer.
We completed most of the tournament indoors, but for the final: Richmond FC (Eng) vs FC Botafogo (Col), we decided to set the pitch up in the garden to simulate the hot climate we expected would be the norm in South America. We lay a large piece of cardboard on the grass to lay the pitch ontop of, and that created the first problem as the pitch refused to sit smooth. Second problem that despite it being a lovely summers day, the slight breeze happened to catch the corner of the playing field and whip it across the corner of the pitch every now and then. Thirdly, I was too young to appreciate the relevance of a spirit level at the time, so the pitch did have a noticeable slant too it. Fourth problem, the breeze also played havoc with the direction of the ball which was usually to my disadvantage. Anyway, my older brothers team Richmond FC ran out as 4-1 winners, and I decided that in future tournaments, I would stick to indoor stadia and hold them on-the-quiet without inviting the 75 Winners.
@@KebabMusicLtd I did something similar in the early/mid 80s, but with Striker players rather than Subbuteo.
I preferred the aesthetics of Striker, maybe because the players were easier to paint/customise, although I used Subbuteo scoreboards, floodlights, pitches etc.
How do I try and win competition
Send an answer to info@tabletopyears.com. Simple as that :)
Table Top Years thanks man love the videos keep em up !!
