  • Pantheon is one of the most anticipated coasters to ever come to America, and we had to wait 3 years to ride it but it's finally open, and on July 19 I was able to get 4 rides. I walked away loving the ride but thinking it had a few issues - these are the pros and cons of Pantheon.

My biggest problem with Pantheon is seriously the theming. I wish they literally did anything but just stick a few signs up and call it a day. The idea for Pantheon is such a cool one, a coaster themed on 5 roman gods with each section representing a different one. The starting launch and area up to the multipass being Mars, the god of war, meaning you're sort of rushing out to battle. The multipass launch being Mercury the messenger to Jupiter, or Zeus as some may know him, where Mercury ultimately sends you to Mount Olympus to see Jupiter, the top hat, the giant spike being Neptune god of the sea, I see that part as pushing you back on your way to see Jupiter after you fail to make it up Mount Olympus. The spike would have looked so cool if it was themed to be a giant trident. And the dive down the top hat representing Pluto god of the underworld, after climbing Mount Olympus you plunge into the underworld with that intense finale.
And the worst part about this, is that you'd have absolutely no idea this was even how the ride was designed if it wasn't for the small signs along the way. It's seriously such a wasted opportunity to theme the 5 sections of the ride to the god they represent.

I'd rather a park spend the money on a decent ride rather than the frills. Darkoster is a good example of too much flash and not enough smash and that ride broke down twice while we waited.

We rode Iron Gwazi, Velocicoaster, and this within a couple months last year so I have a little perspective about Pantheon. I grew up with Geauga Lake/SFO/SFWOA/Geauga Lake, and CP. Steel Vengeance is my #2.
This is my new #1 but there's a clear caveat. Maybe even several.
#1: My own experiences with this ride as a season passer, being able to re-ride it with less than five-minute wait times on gorgeous (week) days and even several nights in any row we wanted has left (us) with a hell of an experience for the entire season of 2022.
2: BGW is my new home park (as of 2021), so I'm probably pre-disposed to favor the thing.
3: The lack of theming doesn't bug me in the least. After such an impressively themed ride experience like Velocicoaster (and the forty-five minute waits for it minimum)- I found much of my enjoyment of Pantheon's views simply beautiful. BGW already has the looks, but Pantheon knows how to make them smile, in a sense.
As a gent of the gent persuasion (and accompanying pronouns) I think the best way to put it is like seeing a beautiful woman, then having her look back and smile at you.
      RIGHT IN YOUR FACE.
It's timing, pacing, and simple beauty all-around play to my taste.
4: For as many times as I've ridden this coaster in the past year, I still get that intense, adrenaline-stuffed euphoria every single time I ride it, and it always happens to the same degree. Even if you think you're ready for the reverse launch- you simply aren't. It peaks in the mind's eye at just about the time you're hanging from the back spike, and the idea that you're heading BACK THERE dawns on you.
Then you freaking FLY, float, and float, and float upside-down, then get a nice, snappy, tasty finish to remind you that you are still earth-bound.
It winds you up then let's you spin free, as often as you like, from whatever seat you like, in one of the most beautiful parks I've ever experienced.
      So there's that.

@@alantrotter2077 Yeah i'm definitely in the minority when it comes to RTH, however I do know of a few others that feel it's a bit overhyped. I remember Canobie Coaster ranking RTH number 1 in Europe, however after his recent visit it's dropped down and he thinks Untamed is the best now. Untamed blew me away too. As for Velocicoaster, it's a masterpiece. I did Taron recently too and I feel without the theming i'd take Pantheon over it, but add the theming in there and it just beats out Pantheon. All these top tier coasters are so good you just want to get back in line and reride them. I’m not 100% sure about this but, I’m pretty sure that most Intamin LSMs make that low grunting sound (Or in Red Force’s case, a low grunt that changes to the sound of a actual car engine). Saying that, I’ve also heard some Intamins that briefly make that normal sounding higher pitched squeal that then goes into that grunting sound.

The reverse launch, the spike in the back, and the stall are all great elements. As to the grunting LSM's - I don't think its an effect of the LSMs themselves, but the cars as they pass over them. Pantheon is the sister coaster of Velocicoaster and while the restraints are basically the same, Im fairly certain Pantheons cars are much more....Spartan. So I think what we're hearing is the vibration of the panels coupled with the fact that the trains are pretty light.

Hey Chris. I've been able to get in a number of rides on Pantheon, including the members preview day. When it was cold, it certainly ran slower than it is right now. That could also be because it was some of the first public rides too. As for the back vs the front, I like the back, but the front isn't bad either. You get more of the fall when the coaster fails to clear the top hat on the first go through. I also liked the different feeling in the first and second rows clearing the top hat than you get in the back too. This is one of those rides where I think both have good pluses when it comes to riding those rows. And oh yeah, the launch sound. That's been that way since it began. Several of the rides really exceeded my expectations - particularly Alpe (front + back row rides) and Griffon (front row, outside right), and Pantheon (while just meeting my expectations) was the best of them. Sure you miss out on the longer fall from the spike and the airtime boost on the tip hat but the other elements seemed much better in the front. The inversions were more drawn out while you wait for the full train to go through them (especially the stall) as opposed to just whipping through them in the back.

I’ve ridden over 600 coasters and Pantheon is Top 20 for me. It has a few elements that rival Maverick or VelociCoaster, but it’s not as complete of a ride. You’re right Chris, it could have used another 2 elements with another 500 feet of track, then you’re talking maybe Top 10.

  • @coasterconquistador2517

This was an awesome video! I haven’t been on Pantheon yet, but I’ve ridden Velocicoaster and it is my number 3 overall behind Lrod and Steve. I wonder how Toutatis will compare to the other Blitz coasters.

Every time I ride this ride I always go “hehehe pantheon go brrrrr” roller coasters make the most fun and interesting noises. They really scratch an itch in my brain. Volcano’s (RIP) launch sound is my fave, just ahead of the lift hills of the Arrow loopers. Also, side note, the restraints on pantheon are probably the best and most comfortable restraints I’ve ever experienced.

This is definitely the best coaster in the park. I will say that I kinda like the weird grunt that the LSMs give off. It's unique and adds to the launch I think. The other thing I will say is that when I first rode it early in the afternoon, the dispatches were great. They did seem to slow down tho when I came back for a night ride. Overall tho I'd consider this an elite coaster

I am excited to ride this when I go the following week. I hope it hits my top 20 and doesn't disappoint me like Velociocoaster (I got stapled and got row 3 and only got one ride, so maybe when I head back, I will try the back row)

When comparing the ingenious use of the launch section on Pantheon to Ice Breaker it really shows how much better the restraints makes the ride. Ice Breaker could have been so much better I think. Intamin nailed it on their first try and I can't wait to see more coasters like it in the future as it seems like a way for coasters to be made cheaper, but I guess that depends on the cost of the extra switch elements compared to more track length.

I did not expect the ride to be as good as it was. It was my #125, and Im p sure I would put it (when in the back) top 5, along with Fury, Lightning rod and El Toro, and probably top 15 towards the front row

I will completely agree that my favorite part is the backwards ejector + spike. I remember just how awesome it was being slammed out of the seat. The only time it broke down at all when I went was in the 7 PM hour, and it was back up later in and I was able to do back to back on it. Got in six rides in total. It's super fun and for sure at least a top 15 for me.
That leaves one burning question: will they keep it open during Christmas Town?

When I went to BGW this year for the first time, I really enjoyed Pantheon and thought it was the best in the park. Now saying that I am learned that launches aren't my favorite ride.. but that back row feeling at the top of the spike was great. I got the Iron Gwazi experience on dispatch times, but it was a station wait so no big deal. The theming feels... incomplete.

Thanks for another incredible video. I'm a wood coaster guy going to Busch this year for InvadR & wanted to preview Pantheon videos. I'm a good judge of a coaster by sight after riding several hundred. Pantheon doesn't strike me as spectacular. But my standard for steel coasters is very high. One of the first complaints on this video is lack of theming. I'm not a fan of theming, it doesn't improve the track experience. What matters to me is what the ride feels like while rolling. Hopefully Pantheon will surprise me, but the negatives mentioned on this video of mediocre "filler" track and short length are things I agree with having _not ridden._

  • @elevatoralarmcoasterandarc1214

I should nickname this coaster The Matrix Reloaded for numerous reasons.
    1. I watched a preview of The Matrix Reloaded in the bathroom during the coaster's opening day
    2. I announced plans to get the DVD release of The Matrix Reloaded during the coaster's opening day
    3. I got the DVD release of The Matrix Reloaded at Goodwill in New Lenox, Illinois to coincide with the coaster's opening
    4. I compared the ride experience to the express way chase scene from The Matrix Reloaded
    5. I compared the coaster's logo characters to the ones found in The Matrix Reloaded

I think we agree on overall opinion of the ride. Here's a couple things I noticed: 1. Yes I thought the Hercules sign was hilarious 2. I think every element was very good (including the outer bank hills before the swing launch) except the spike. It was cool but it just didn't do much for me. 3. I was a little surprised to see it as low as 30. I was comparing it to how high I have it, which is 9 out of 266. Good for top 3.4%. I was actually doing the math for your percentage literally as you said it lol

  • @Alan_Smith
    @Alan_Smith Před rokem +1

First off, the LSMs always sound like that for some reason. Second, Hercules Fence is a regional company serving VA, NC, and MD, so literally a Roman god themed coaster has Hercules Fence. And third, given you credit count and quality, 30 is pretty good, I have it 1 or 2 (man those late 90’s early 2000’s Ghostrider rides are so memorable) and above Iron Gwazi, Steel Vengeance, Mako, Maverick, I305, and Twisted Timbers. I think it is a complete ride, and very re-rideable. Each element, like IG over SV is unique and the ride doesn’t blend together. Overall a great addition to the park.
Now BGW needs to get Mack or Vekoma to re imagine Drachen Fire!!!

Personally, I prefer this over Velocicoaster. I find its more comfortable and that stall is so much better. I also feel Pantheon has much better pacing and there is never a dull moment. Not to mention the airtime on the backwards section and the final launch are stronger than anything on Velocicoaster. As for the weird noise, it always does that. I love it because it reminds me of the "fart" on El Toro.

Haven’t ridden this yet since I’ve been back in Va .. but I will say that most of the rollercoasters I’ve ridden ? Feel like complete experiences BECAUSE of the theming
The ones without are awesome rides but they don’t “ stick “ as much as coasters that tie everything together
Maybe that’s why some of us have fonder memories of lesser coasters ? 🤔 interesting to think about
