Got all the way in only to find RIVETS!! 2019 Pro 16”

      this keyboard was replaced before...
you can see the stamps on bottom left, they all come with rivets.
in this case, someone just drill the rivets before and put screws

You will eventually see rivets instead of screws and be frustrated, caution. There are a number of options on the internet. I've done this once successfully with a 2016 model and once with a lot more pain on the 2019 model. You want to get as many rivets out as possible. Get a firm grip and pull off the old keyboard as quick as you can, in hopes the rivets will stay on the keyboard.
For the remaining ones, see if you have pliers that will allow you to pull them out. Preferably ones where you can kind of hook under the rivet. Alternatively, apply a screwdriver or similar object from the side, nothing too sharp, and knock it out with a hammer. You need to get the right angle so that the rivet will pop out instead of off.
For what is left you will unfortunately have to drill them out. Get a PCB drill set and a bag of self-taping keyboard screws. YMMV on the drill bit size, but something like 0.6mm. I was most successful with a dremel. I also bought a 5 pack of drill bits, because they will break. Be careful not to drill too far, otherwise you have holes on the other side. And make sure to keep the display far away from the drill.
If the screws don't fit you can likely get a second bag with 1.2mm screws and use a 1mm drill bit. If all of that fails, some people have used certain glues to hold it together, but that sounds like a mess.

Used this video as a reference! Was very helpful, thanks!

This video was very helpful in getting the laptop disassembled. BUT. it should have started out cautioning the viewer that the keyboard may be riveted in place and not screwed. Now it's all apart and no info is provided in this video on how to solve the rivet problem. I guess no one from Howfixit checks out the comments. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to fix the rivet problem?

There is another video on CZcams for a Magic Keyboard where they show how to drill the rivets and what screws to put in their place and where to buy them from.

Damn, I was just given one of these from work that went out of warranty with sticking keys. Will be the first time taking apart any Apple product; very similar to Dell laptop internal parts replacement, but just a ton more ribbon cables.

Yeh, you need new screws and to drill out the holes. However, don't panic if you get caught without screws. The fans pin the keyboard pretty tight, so even without new screws to replace the rivets it tends to be ok, and if you want you can redistribute the perimeter screws across the keyboard pretty simply (using a pin vice and small drill bit), without full coverage of course.

All those screws holding in the keyboard !

Would it be easier or more difficult to replace the entire top case (understanding it would be more expensive)?

Hello, I replaced the keyboard, but my Apple ID is not working, why can this be?

Hmmm, if only there were screws in my keyboard. Mine has rivets. And it is the same model you are working on. So, not sure how it’s different but I do know that I’m done buying Apple laptops.
