Loyal Theorists, we all know that stunt performers are the true unsung heroes of Hollywood. For crying out loud, why don't they have their own Oscar yet? But, putting that (begrudgingly) aside, today we're paying our own honors to the stunt community by asking if an action hero could be a hero in real life. And we're basing all of it on the new Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt movie The Fall Guy. Could a movie star survive an explosion? Scale a building? Jump multiple stories in a car? Today we find out!

Honestly, a stuntman makes perfect sense as an action hero. It's almost literally their job.
Or even a generic leading actor. That’s the plot of Singin’ in the Rain!

I was a lifeguard and the “saying no” part of the video makes a lot of sense. We were always trained that if for whatever reason the person you’re trying to save grabs onto you and tries to take you under, the situation has gotten too dangerous and you need to make sure you’re safe or else then there are two people drowning
Step 1 of first aid, make sure the scene is safe enough to render first aid.
Exactly!! Its one of the first things you learn, if the situation is too dangerous then don't approach until it's safe enough
From what I understand, in situations where here them thrashing about in a water rescue, it is sometimes necessary to incapacitate the person to safely rescue them. Am I mis-remembering this?
@@desiismeroko if it can save someones life then in most countries yes, for example in Germany you are REQUIRED to at least try to help, even if you accidentally break someone's rib trying to give them CPR you would still get punished for NOT helping someone who you could help, don't even have to be trained, but you can't walk past someone dying, it's super illegal, the least you can do without interfering is calling an ambulance
@@RainyBasil9295 I don't think its illegal to not help in the US but we are legally protected for accidental harm done while trying to help someone. They tend to call it the Good Samaritan law
I love how they got Ryan Gosling to say its just a film theory at the end that was great!!

Shoutout to Stunman Tanoai Reed, who has doubled for The Rock for YEARS. Imagine having to stunt for him, AND match his physique
Well, he is The Rock's cousin, so maybe fitness is just a family thing. 😂
Ryan Gosling making a cameo on film theory has to be one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen 🥶
They've been getting a lot of cool sponsorships lately, like with the Dune merch they're making. Makes me wonder what other sorts of things they'll have in store for the future.
Don’t forget that things go wrong on sets all the time, even when safety measures are taken to the fullest. Stunt people have very dangerous jobs and many have died in the line of duty. My father has known a few who have. Remember to be grateful for the roles they play while putting their lives on the line. They make it so your favorite actors don’t have to risk themselves
Even the safest things have elements of danger, which is something we should remember. I'm not surprised that even with great safety measures followed properly some people get injured or die. Definitely something I should keep in mind more and be thankful about
Ryan gosling jumpscare at the end was insane
4:39 'DRIVING' backwards was a cleverrr graphic

I know y'all mean well but I think it's best if we stop comparing the new hosts to matpat or talking about him being gone every time a video comes out
as someone who does fight choreography and stage combat for live theater, staged fighting requires just as much if not more control, precision, and intensity because you're trying to sell hitting the target without ever hitting it. we also are almost always taught what would actually hurt someone and how that would work, since it lets us realistically sell the reaction.
A video praising stuntmen AND a surprise for the sendoff? Very nice.
I have to say, since Lee took over, I've been tuning in to more Film Theories. The videos arent all about horror anymore and they have really fun concepts. Matt was more electric as a host but I'm liking this.
I second this! I love Matt’s theories, but Lee brought a fresh perspective and I’m loving it! All of the new hosts do an amazing job! Matt picked the best people he could!
@Aravis. Can I just say how much I love the incredibly warm reception all the new hosts are getting? It's so nice to see a positive fanbase
13:25 this section reminds of something that was said in my first aid training. Don’t go beyond your capabilities to save others: “It’s better to have one dead body than two.”
Fall Guy was one of my all time favorite shows as a kid. Every weekend I would sit down to Knight Rider, A-Team and Fall guy in a row and would not leave the tv is the house was on fire. Hope the movie keeps the fun spirit and am so happy to hear Lee Majors (The original Colt Seavers) will be in the movie somewhere too.
I really hope they do it justice, so many reboots really bite. (And presently most modern films don't seem to know how to aim let alone able to hit the target.)
Thanks. I was going to comment the same
⚠️Hello everyone!⚠️ Your friendly neighborhood Bait Police officer here to remind you not to reply to computers under comments! Replying to them makes CZcams think that they’re real people.
Things to do if you see a computer reply:
1. Do NOT reply! I know it might be tempting to clap back as these computers tend to slander our favorite creators, like Lee here, but replying to them will fool the CZcams algorithm into thinking that they’re real people.
2. Report the comment either for “Unwanted commercial content or spam”, or for “Harassment and bullying.” (Either works, but if you try both a couple of times and the comment doesn’t get removed, try reporting for Hate Speech.)
3. Block the account by going to their channel, first pressing the “Report” button to report the channel and then clicking “Hide this user from my channel” so that pesky computer account can’t reply to your comments anymore.

An award would be nice, but how about a mention for the 80's TV show "The Fall Guy" that the movie is based on. Not sure anyone remembers
This entire video is nothing more than a sixteen-and-one-half minute trailer for a movie, and I'm all for it. It basically gave me and my husband something to do during his birthday week
The Fall Guy was an American action-adventure television series produced for ABC and originally broadcast from November 4, 1981, to May 2, 1986. It stared Lee Majors, Douglas Barr, and Heather Thomas as Hollywood stunt performers who moonlight as bounty hunters.
They swiped the name. knew i remembered that name.
I was just scrolling through the comments to see if anyone else remembered the series. Glad I'm not the only one.
Oh thank goodness, it wasn't just me. I actually watched that show every week and got in trouble with a teacher for my Heather Thomas Trapper folders (she was wearing two different bikinis, heh).
Evidently, Lee Majors (and his famous truck from the series) makes a cameo in the film. Wish the Theorists would have acknowledged the original. Glad someone did.
Like the others, I was looking through the comments to see if anyone mentioned the original. The theory was kind of the whole premesis and it's pretty disappointing that they missed that point. Colt used his stuntman experience to help with the dangerous situations he got into bounty hunting. I must have been 8 or 9 at that time and loved the show.
"Swiped" probably isn't the right term. Majors played Colt Seavers in the series.
Okay this made me want to watch the movie even more than before. I knew Stunt doubles had to be skilled in a lot of general fields but I didn't know you'd have to posses that many skills for it.
in the original tv show, the fall guy was both a stunt man and also a licensed bounty hunter, so colt should be more capable than the average person. a good show to pair with the fall guy is bored to death. a show about a young author who becomes an unlicensed detective to avoid/inspire writing his second novel. it's an exaggerated autobiography. the main gag being that the real jonathan ames is 6 foot 9 and an accomplished fencer while the fictional jonathan ames is 5 foot 2 and a nervous wreck.
The original Colt Seavers has one extra advantage: experience in doing all this stuff practically outside of the movie set. In the TV series the movie is (allegedly) based on, Colt (played by Lee Majors) takes bounty hunter gigs between movies to pay the bills. That means he has used those stunt skills in dangerous situations numerous times in the past and possibly even vice versa, taking something he did chasing a bad guy out of necessity (because it's still an action TV show) and creating a stunt out of it in a more controlled environment.
Hope the movie at least ends with this Colt doing the same after his experience in the events of the movie. The one Ryan's working on, not the one Colt...you know what I mean.
We don't have an award for best stunt because people would die every year trying to win it
Agreed
Correction: Tom Cruise would die or almost die every year trying to win it.
Meh... we enjoy the challenge sure. But, the 1st 3 rules in the stunt world are: #1 safety, #2 safety, and of course #3 safety. With that being said we all hate those 3 rules. Lol
At the risk of sounding heartless, if they die, they failed at being a good stuntman
Not mentioning the Lee Major's TV show 😢
The Fall Guy is also the name of a 70s/80s TV show
That has nothing to do with my comment you comment bot@OfficerRobGronkowskiUTTP

When I first saw the title of this video, I thought it would be about the '80s tv series that the movie appears to be loosely based on. I didn't know about the movie until now, but I loved the series when I was a kid, so I'm looking forward to seeing it.

I'm surprised there was no mention of the TV series from a few decades ago. Regardless, this is a great video to watch.
Love seeing corridor crew being referenced, was just thinking if they would and as soon as I thought that you talked about them 👍🏻
So, why no mention of the 80s TV show this is based on? I mean, Lee Majors better have a cameo in the movie! That is, if he's up to it. He is (looks him up) 85 TODAY. So also, happy birthday to the first Fall Guy.
So... does that mean the release date of this video was an Easter egg, or a coincidence?
My wife read somewhere that he and his truck have a cameo on the film.

Can you imagine what we would do without Jackie Chan's stunt man?
Idk if this was intentional or not, but the timing for this video being released was perfect timing since it was released in Australian theatres the same day

Speaking of fighting and needing to know how to fall correctly, this is HUGE for wrestlers. Since most wrestling is very agressive acting, you have to know how to fall safely, get picked up safely, etc. I enjoyed Tom Scott learning how to do it
Used to love the original TV show with Lee Majors. I hope this remake is great!
More appreciation for stunt performers, I love it! Keep being our heroes you guys! And you too Team Theorists.
That lase segment really hit me, knowing when to say no, when to stop, even when lives are on the line.
In the Sanderson novels "Stormlight Archives" the main characters make a series of oaths (or Ideals) as they progress through their powers.
The first ideal is the same for all of them: "Life before death, strength before weakness, journey before destination." but the rest are specific to the orders they belong to, and the Wind Runner ideals, the forth in particular, are starkly relevant here.
The Wind Runners are your most obvious, most classical hero archetype, easily summed up by their second and third ideals: "I will defend those who cannot defend themselves." and "I will defend all those who need me, even those I hate, so long as it is right.", the exact phrasing can vary but the spirit of it remains for each character, establishing the order's duty, and an affirmation that the duty to defend others comes before their personal feelings. Both things law enforcement, soldiers, and first responders can easily identify with.
The forth ideal is the hardest to uphold, and commented in the books as being one many wind runners of old never actually swore: "I will accept that there will be those I cannot save." And I get it, to try but fail to save a life is a hard thing to live with, but to step away without trying, the doubt that you might have been wrong, that you *could* have done more, accepting your limits knowing that someone might die because of it... THAT is truly hard, it can feel like cowardice. but in those situations, not only could trying but failing make things worse, but you (the trained professional) living to fight another day could go on to save many more lives.
Incredibly good theory from start to finish.
I am disappointed this episode didn't start with "The Unknown Theorist".
Whoa! It's already cool enough to get Universal to sponsor your video, but you actually got their lead actor to say the line at the end!
I am so incredibly excited about this movie and this video and ahhhh, I've wanted to be a stunt performer for so long its so cool to see this stuff recognized on the big screen AND Film Theory!!
Junior firefighter here. On top of us having to have all of the necessary PPE during a fire, we also have to perform regular checks on our gear, with most manufacturers having equipments that last a few years. As well as having multiple protocols that are constantly being reviewed and revised. And thank you for mentioning the difficult decision we have to make as first responders on whether we should continue to take action or not, because while we are trying to save the lives of others, we also need to make sure we are not creating more victims.
I’m surprised that the editor team didn’t slip in a single “Drive” reference or a literally me meme into the video. Glad we got to hear the man do the Film Theory outro though!
