For anyone wondering, there are some things I’d like to clear up. As a member of the UPCI (United Pentecostal Church International) I found the joke amusing, but also somewhat misleading. If you come to one of our church wearing makeup, jewelry, pants etc, most time the members won’t care, and will welcome you warmly. I know this is not always the case, but if you end up in a church that doesn’t welcome you, just know most of us aren’t like that. I am also aware that not all Pentecostal churches have the same beliefs as us as far as clothing/presentation of the body. Also, we women wear all kinds of skirts, not just long denim ones ;). We are what’s known as Apostolic Pentecostal and our “holiness standards” are different than that of other Pentecostals, as well as some other beliefs. Also, our church is NOT a cult, despite what some may say. We all have free choice, no one is forced to do anything. I’m not here to have an argument or debate, so if you reply with something negative, I won’t respond. However, if you have a genuine question i would be happy to answer it for you. I was just hoping to clarify some things for anyone wondering. Have a nice day, God bless. :)

      Truth . John 1
      King James Version
" 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 The same was in the beginning with God.
3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.
7 The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe.
8 He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.
9 That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.
10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.
11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not.
12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
15 John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me.
16 And of his fullness have all we received, and grace for grace.
17 For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. " Now heed this Warning : Man for his part has unto Himself taken the Word, and for His Own benefit hath twisted the Word, thereby corrupting It . Man fights amongst Themselves, bickering with one another as to who has the best means of worship . Those in lofty positions use the Word of God to lord it [ Their Authority and power] over others whilst only bringing fear, derision ,sorrow, and hatred to the People . The Word of God ,instead of being an Instrument of Salvation has instead been usurped by Corruptible Powers and Dominions within the Religions, Institutes, and Traditions built by Man . This I say unto Those who desire to hear, let not Tradition, nor Religion, nor Institution become as a pitfall . Let Love fill Your heart. Love as Christ Loved . Open up Your Heart,Mind and Soul to Christ and the Way of Salvation shall be revealed. The Path is before You. You must choose which One to walk. One Path leadeth to separation,Darkness,Corruption - DEATH ,whilst the Other leadeth to Unity, Light ,Salvation . CHOOSE wisely!

Next 45 min: Pastor name drops all the famous people in the audience and brags about his relationships with famous people. Then invites two professional athletes onstage to talk about their sports.
In my opinion, this is not a church. This is a place you go for a free concert and then leave (which a surprisingly large amount of people did.) By the time the service was actually over, about 40% of the congregation was already gone.

Of course, I'm also the person who got the newspaper at my AG college in trouble for publishing an editorial comic poking fun at our sister college across town. For context...
I attended Evangel University in Springfield, MO. Now, Springfield is, famously, where the headquarters of both the Assemblies of God and Baptist Bible Fellowship are located, and it's a major college town. A good third of its residents only live there during the school year. In addition to Evangel University, Springfield was initially also home to Central Bible College and the AG Theological Seminary. Both these institutions have since been absorbed into EU (much to the former's chagrin). Evangel is a liberal arts school, while CBC was basically where kids went before taking graduate courses at AGTS. And CBC's view of Evangel was...not the kindest. They saw us as being very secular compared to themselves. During CBC's last year as their own entity, there was a popular meme floating around the internet that basically said, "What X thinks I do vs. what I really do." I made a comic based on this meme, with the theme being Evangel students and graduates. One panel said, "What CBC thinks we do," and showed students in crop tops dancing on tables and holding glass bottles that were very much intended to look like booze. Everyone at Evangel loved the comic and thought that panel in particular was hilarious. A visiting faculty from CBC did not. An apology letter had to be written by our school administration on behalf of our newspaper, and we got a stern warning not to make fun of CBC ever again.

When I was in college I got invited to church by a white campus crusade for Christ guy. I agreed to go with him and only when I arrived that Sunday did I realize he was the only white guy at an inner city black church. We didn't have black people where I grew up and the first time I was ever around black people was in the Marine Corps. I grew up in the Lutheran Church and let me tell you what, black church is really different but it's a total riot! People singing and dancing in the aisles, shouting out agreement with the pastor, randomly breaking into songs right in the middle of the sermon, waving their hands in the air like it's a rave for Jesus and so on. And it was loooooooooong, like the longest service I have ever been too. I'm pretty introverted so by the time it was over I felt like I had run a marathon, but they sure were welcoming and it was definitely a blast to experience that much fun at church. I'll never forget it, probably won't ever do it again, but I'm glad I got to experience it, even if I can't clap on time to save my life.

“You can’t even clap on rhythm in the white church!” made me laugh way harder than it should. 😂

My church is extremely different from normal churches, so it’s super hard for me to find Christians to relate to lol. Like we don’t have a pastor, or some big building with a cross. We don’t give money (except for lunch which we all do our best to pitch in for), we don’t go on retreats or anything like that. We’re just a group of like 25 people that come together once a month and sing worship music, pray, talk about things God is bringing us through, ask for prayer on things, and then near the end we split bread and juice. We worship for about 2 hours, but it’s not like we open up a book of hyms or anything. We have actual songs that we sing, some are ones people in our group created and others are more well known worship songs. But we just sing them, and praise God. I guess you could say my aunt leads it since she’s at the piano, but honestly there’s really no one that leads it. When someone isn’t speaking or when we aren’t singing, we are just praying. Sometimes someone prays aloud, other times we are quiet in it. It’s truly just spending time with God. We don’t dress up in fancy outfits or anything. We don’t have the whole Instagram type life thing. It’s like a genuine family, which a lot of us actually are family, but in this case I mean more spiritual. A body of Christ. I don’t even know the whole denomination stuff. I just know God. I know I love Him. I know I want to know Him more. I talk to Him all the time, and I love seeing how He works. I think trying to put God in a box is against everything He is. When I was little, my mom would take us from church to church. We tried out all of those different kinds. But they never worked out. It was so suffocating to be in those buildings. It felt like a funeral more than worship. People nodding their heads constantly with their brows furrowed as the pastor preached the exact same five scriptures every single time. Warning us of God’s wrath if we ever strayed. It felt so wrong. So exhausting. So unforgiving. When we finally came to my now worship group, it was completely different. I was still a very young kid at the time, but I knew the difference. The air felt cleaner. It was calming. I would often take naps on my mom’s lap as we sat in the living room (our worship is in a normal house, not a church building) because I was little, and it felt like God was watching over me, joyful that I was there. It was a happy and content feeling. Like this was the closest to home I could get on earth. I’ve stayed with my worship group ever since. I’m 21 now, and it feels so good to be able to go to worship. I’m disabled, so I don’t always get to go, but it’s nice when I do. Like bringing me back to a place where I belong. A place that doesn’t teach through fear, but rather tells over and over and over of Gods overwhelming love. ❤️

This is GOLD!!! Just like my family and I we all have different wants and needs when we go to church, we have our home church which has what I want in a service , so when we're on vacation try thinking of going to a place like that our church, then dad is usually wanting the same thing and mom has different wants than what we do and our church does, she loves it there too, but there's just 1 think as she grew up Lutheran that she has to have liturgy and hymns, so we always battle back and forth Saturday night on which church in the area we want to go to and on some occasions we don't even go because we can't decide or oversleep. Loved the Jehovah's Witness bit and also Jericho House of Praise "What are we just going to drive around it seven times?"

I was in downtown Chicago this past weekend and it was very hard to find a church. I just ended up going to the week service at my normal place of worship.
