      @primalcritters Před rokem +6

      It's true though they can be Handler aggressive. It's also true that I love dutches because they have working line GSD in them which is why they are so much more sizable than a regular dutchie. Actually I should call them X herders because they are not Dutch Shepherds. The knpv line of dogs uses a mixture of all three breeds.

      @@primalcritters More than than herders in some lines. Mali and dutchie are basically the same breed(they were used to be considered the same back in the day). Some lines have apbt and mastiffs in their blood.

    • @primalcritters
      @primalcritters Před rokem +4

      @@dogman2772 yes I know this. Apbt has been mixed in I am aware. It just makes me laugh when people think they have a purebred Malinois that is almost 100 lb and very muscled with a large head. I always tell people no that's not a purebred malinois. Better than a purebred malinois! People get extremely offended though insisting they have a purebred malinois. They don't get the whole point of knpv dogs. I actually think they should just start calling them X herders as they do overseas. Purebred Malinois will be very slim dogs with narrow muzzles and fine bones. The dogs working in police and military are not this. They are very selectively bred mutts essentially. I say mutts in the best way

    This dog reminds me of a friends dog. He was a solid black german shepherd all working lines (Troll Fero if not mistaken) and he was a schutzhund 1 when he got him and his previous owner (an older gentleman) got rid of him because the dog sent him to the hospital and he was afraid of him. I worked with this dog as a decoy a couple of times and it was scary, when you saw him in the field you knew he was meaning business, dominance and aggression was the order of the day. I never turned my back on him for a second. My friend did a couple of trials with him and he did great (One of the German judge at the trial wanted to buy the dog on the spot) until one day the dog tuned against him while he was training the blind search and sent him to the hospital. He finally sold it to another guy who was also an experienced dog trainer. I never heard of the dog after. This dog was awesome, big boned. solid head and a very good in tracking but was unpredictable and handler aggressive. My friend was a professional dog trainer at the time and a good schutzhund competitor but i think this dog was a couple levels over his abilities and knowledge at the time.
    I wish you best of luck with your new dog!!

    • @rottweilertrainingUK
      @rottweilertrainingUK Před rokem +4

      interesting story. Thank you for sharing it. I think there is a big difference between a dog who is unpredictable to most trainers - but with a good enough trainer the triggers are actually clearly there (which I think will be the case here) and dogs who have a screw loose, with a genuine mental instability. In both cases you can be just unlucky, e.g. one day you slip and fall on the dog, or whatever, and end up very badly injured. A chance you take with such a dog.

I always find even when you get a dog like this to a working stage it’s always in the back of your mind if you’re going to be taken out. There’s nothing worse then having to pussyfoot around an unpredictable reactive dog. (This is just my personal opinion)

    16:00 A wagging tail means the dog is enjoying themselves, we often mistake that for friendliness. Working dogs don't just enjoy their work, they love it. Nothing makes them happier than their work. Keep that in mind when thinking of getting a working line dog. This dog obviously loves his job and you are working to help him understand what his job is.

    Purchased a protection trained Belgian Malinois. He was kennel aggressive. He’d be worked with every day but as soon as he was put back in his kennel he would regress back to aggression. This went on for over a month. Had to return him to the breeder/trainer, my son is autistic and I didn’t feel comfortable with the amount of aggression that was seen. The breeder did say that one of his police officers was experiencing the same with another of his dogs.

    I thought this video was very educational, both to the public, but more so to professional dog trainers. Watching a video of a great trainer like Haz, working with a dog way out of my league, makes me feel very humble. Even though it may not be the type of dog the vast majority of trainers specializes in, regardless there is so much learning to be done.
    Personally I find it sad that there are not more self professed force free trainers (who use plenty of force in their own way, much of it very detrimental and confusing to the average dog, who being a good soul just gets on with it) who are willing to learn from content such as this. The basis of trust and having a partnership with a dog is important, and we see the first steps here, but it is not the entire answer. More and more, particularly as tools are removed, people need to understand there are some dogs that are not safe little angels who simply need a few more cookies to be a good boy. This dog has as much of a right to live and enjoy life as any other dog - in the right hands where he is safely handled. The answer is not management and medication, but trained with someone with an appropriate skillset, one sadly in Europe is becoming demonised.
