  • Often I'm asked what is a good RV to buy. It's difficult to answer as everyone's needs are different. But this 2014 Phaeton from Tiffin is a ery good unit and I'll try to explain what I like about it and some of the things modern RV manufacturers do that I do not like.
I do not know how much it is selling for but this unit is for sale and you can contact the seller here:

As a tech at a Tiffin dealer who works on both new and used Tiffins, without even watching the video, I guarantee that used one is better than a new one.
I’m working on a new Phaeton right now, the entire mid bathroom shifted over an inch and a half. The complaint was the door doesn’t latch. I could go on and on….

James, you really got me on your new purchase 2001 Beaver Coach! It seems that some manufactures in past made quality products (ie. RV’s) when compared to today’s manufacturing. I’m still looking for a 2001 Beaver Coach like yours…. :-D

I’m a firm believer in inspecting our equipment for operation and safety because not only are these RVs expensive, they can be potentially dangerous. Thanks for all you do and share!

I have been their several times and asked a lot of questions. I like their way they paint their motorhome.
I see them holding up better then most motorhome. Thanks so much for your tour of the Tiffin Phaeton. I wish

We purchased a 2015 Tiffin Allegro Bus 37AP in Sept 2021 and absolutely love it. Ours does feature the multi-plex lighting but we do not have the LCD type screens. We have 3 of the individual A/C controls, as seen in this coach. They are ez to operate and control the temp variance from front to rear as explained in this video.
We have since logged over 6,000 trouble free drive train miles. We do not currently tow a vehicle behind it but we are averaging over 11 MPGs! (as measured by the factory dash computer for the last 21,000+ miles -previous owner never reset it- and I may not either since it has won me quite a few campground wagers) 😉.
When we acquired it with 15,000 miles, the computer read 11.2. Avg mpg. When I serviced the drive train (engine oil & trans fluid, I converted to approved synthetics @ the 16,500 mark . The average mpgs have since improved to 11.4
Incredible considering the GVWR of nearly 38,000 lbs. and it conquers hills at speed while providing reassuring descents with 2 stage engine braking.
I think the fact that the same Cummins L9 /Allison 3000MH w/ 450HP & 1,250 ft lbs of torque powers Tiffins 40 & 45 foot buses as well, places this lighter weight bus right in the ideal power to weight ratio. Highway driving is a dream.
So I can only agree that this era of Tiffin product may very well become a desirable classic. I guess I am a Tiffin fanboy now too 😎

Hi James. Always enjoy watching your videos. I look forward to them. I think most of the pre-2008 recession and pre-DEF top production manufacturers (CC, Tiffin, Newmar, Monaco (pre-REV group), etc.) American Coach, all have pros and cons. I really think Tiffin and Newmar customer service is #1, but I think that the older Tiffin tends to not offer the higher end items, like higher HP engines or aqua-hot, residential frig. I'm not a fan of Newmar's interior decor and lack of windows on the passenger side. I tend to lean towards the Monaco's (Beaver, Holiday Rambler, etc) before they went under. I have a '07 HR Navigator 45' w/Cummins 525 and Allison 4K, 12.5 Onan, king bed, all electric Girard window and patio awnings, pwr. shades, roadmaster, etc. It's pretty loaded with every imaginable gadget and option except a dishwasher. Surprisingly, for a 15 year old coach, it looks great and every single button, latch, piece of equipment, function.....all work perfectly. I just love it. I would have gotten a '07/'08 Beaver Marquis but just couldn't find one at the time. Great informative video and take care!

Have to strongly agree on rocker switches! My ‘17 Seismic toy hauler has redundant lcd touch screen and rockers. They dropped the redundancy a year or two later. Seriously Great job on the video all around. It’s nice to see someone who knows what they’re talking about for real explaining the ins and outs. I own a 2005 diamond four Monaco dynasty Ralph Lauren edition with a Cummings ISM 500. Allison. 4000 transmission
Also rocker switches. Two-way refrigerator that works great and has been upgraded I like it because I like going off grid. Also no DEF fluid. Aqua hot three zone. 10 airbags excellent ride. It does not sway in the wind. And it’s not affected by tractor trailers turbulence. The tag axle helps immensely. I had a non-tag axle coach 40 feet huge difference. I do like the gauges and the analog switches.
Is that rear radiator? Used is the way to go in my opinion. I would not buy any coach if I could not work on it myself. They constantly need tinkering and care. Also land to keep them on. So many people leave them in a separate garage area. I work on mine constantly for fun keeping it perfect. An hour here an hour there 15 minutes five minutes I think you need it to be on your property where you live. I think that’s something to consider.
Even a small trailer would be nice it doesn’t matter it’s what fits you.

Yano what , no disrespect meant to RV builders anew
But the more modern ones post 2007, are made to fail in areas , soooo the buyer whom wants it fixed by the maker (for excellent service/fix records) is paying out , over n over n over on these newer models ... reminds me of German car manufacturers here to in Europe we all know , ohhh boy they charge, and quality is down 👎 ....its a mindset of : "well if you can afford in the first instance/place to buy such luxury ...you damn can afford the service/fix bills " 😊
