I think the pleasure and challenge with a project is something you need to get your hands dirty, strip down the engine, gearbox etc weld the frame, make your own side panels etc. That gives you good satisfaction when you turn a basket case into something that looks brand new. Of course you want all the parts there and not have to spend loads of cash buying parts but rather restore those parts rather than replace them. If the bike needs little done to it like this one it's more like finishing a partly done paint by numbers painting which is not as satisfying as starting a painting from scratch. So in my opinion it's more fun to have a basket case and rebuild it.
ELPaso1990TX Every single piece of this bike was taken apart because it needed to be. It might look decent, but there was a ton of work that needed to be done to this bike
Great video thanks for taking the time to make it. I have a CB 750 that I am about to get rebuilt by a friend. Do you mind me asking how much you paid for it? .
one of the biggest expenses when restoring a bike is the chrome work. If it needs a lot of chrome replacement it is going to double or triple the cost of the resto
This may seem like a silly question; but after a bike restore if your looking to make some money off of it whats a good way to tell how much it's worth or what would be a fair sale price for it.
Just bought a 75 cb550f. 1 week prior i bought an 86 vt500c, my first motorcycle. I have intentions of continuing to buy these things unitl my wife cuts my throat 😆.
2cyclemix You need at least 100 psi for the engine to run, but a healthy engine should be at 120+ psi. Also, you do not want more than 10% difference in any of the cylinders.
+Motorcycle Restoration Channel stupid question but: how can i test the compression? i got a 125 CBR, its running but a bit weird. i got told that it might have to do with low copression so i should check it. how do i do that?
Should have mentioned more specifics about the price. I realize that can seem personal, but it's a product review basically so pricing is a major part and with this item you can't just jump over to a new tab and look up the price either.
Motorcycle Restoration Channel I'm paying $340 for a '81 yamaha xs1100 special, is that a good price if it needs rear tire replaced, and carburetor cleaned?

If a engine is low on compression it's not a reason to pass on buying it. It's not hard to rebuild the engine. Part of restoration. Rings, valves, or head gasket could be why loss of compression.
Nice video! Just bought my first bike (1975 FS1 DX) and it's a blast! Have a look at this little video I did when riding it! czcams.com/video/S_TecfdT89g/video.html Let me know if you want to see more of it such as a walkaround and carb tuning etc..

Side covers can be made from scratch by shaping steel sheet on a former shaped as the original. Or use fibre glass.
Any advice on restoring a 2000 Honda shadow ace 750?, left out in the sun for 1 year

What if my bike runs but it has a hard time going from idle to 1st gear? It tends to die seemingly no reason.
How do you check compression?
About how much did this restoration cost you?
How much did it cost?for the bike
How can you tell if the bike has bad compression

What is a good compression reading for a motorcycle?
It is different for each bike but its in your shop manual. You will want to buy the shop manual for your bike
in my state if you don't have the title the bike is worth nothing, they down allow it to be registered(=no plates) even if you have a bill of sale

+Motorcycle Restoration Channel cant you just get the engine rebored with over sized pistons ?

+Nazimelon compression gauge that screws into spark plug socket
+hoggath hogg compression is definitely fixable. Had a ct90 with ~90psi compression. Honing the cylinder and new rings put it up around 150.
good to know i have a cg125 and the compression is about 90 i think its time to buy some honing stones and new rings
If your gonna make it a cafe the blinkers and such arent a huge deal because 99% of the time you get integrated blinkers and shit

So you recommend. Not restoring a bike that needs restoring but finding. One that doesn't need anything

How do you check compression ?
With a compression tester. Remove a spark plug and it threads in.
