I am a bit disappointed in you for reporting on the Aquire story in the same deceptive way many websites did for search engine optimization. Calling Aquire the studio behind Octopath is highly misleading as they were seemingly more of a support studio on the project.
Octopath Traveler is the baby of Tomoya Asano's internal team at Square Enix, who also make Bravely Default and all the other Square Enix JRPGs with that same title font.
Your reporting on it like this shows a lack of due diligence and research into the story that I thought you were above.

Hey, I would've loved a mobile game from ER or Souls universe. I don't care if it were a F2P/grindy/daily/weekly gacha or rpg. Problem is that tencent are predatory pieces of shit, who care little for creating good products.
Sadly, mobile games is more often than not synonymous with badly predatory that will indeed halt the flow of gameplay or even progress for a quick buck. The exceptions like Apple Arcade and normal paid games are just that, the exception.@@enot2140
Part of the play here is Elden Ring is an unlicensed title in China, which makes it illegal to own, play, stream etc.
For tencent making a chinese friendly version and then loading it full of that stuff is their fast road to cash.
However it will put them back on the radar for the Chinese Govt for trying to introduce a game that is already banned, aggressive monetisation would make the Chinese government ask "Didn't we have a plan to stop microtransactions, what happened to it?"

@@pascalsimioli6777 there are actually quite good gachas out there. Honkai star rail might be a grind, but it's not necessary to pay money to succeed. Same for Punishing Gray Raven. It's not for everyone, but it's also not predatory.
Tencent don't care about having an enjoyable game with micro transactions, the just want as much micro transactions with as little game as possible.
There truly is a difference in my experience
FYI Infinite Wealth is not on Gamepass, you've probably confused that for the recent Like a Dragon Gaiden which is on Gamepass.
If only it was, gotta finish gaiden first.
@@gumbomanmash6762Gaiden is about 12-15 hours for the main story, so not too long to deal with. I just finished Infinite Wealth last night with lots complete and more to do and that was about 60 hours for me.
I'm sure it will come to GamePass eventually because every other Yakuza/Like a Dragon game is on there, but yeah, rn Infinite Wealth isn't on GamePass.

To be completely objective, I think putting together a review for a game that you know will be bad (and had a huge drama-filled development) is probably the tougher job for the more experienced dude.

Watching _Palworld_ and _Helldivers 2_ eat _Suicide Squad's_ breakfast, lunch, dinner and after-dinner mint warms my cynical gamer heart.
Me too but I feel bad for all those who worked on the game. I can imagine the studio would likely try to layoff the live service team
@@raskul4I used to feel that way; until you truthfully look at the games industry in the past 10 year as a pocket; this shit was inevitable.
The Games industry survived similar to DVD sales; but with the addition of micro-transactions and an always online internet connection, it turned from DVD level sales to Casino level profit.
So of course then went big for broke. Developers must have seen this happening as THEY are the ones making the games. Most of them probably kept going on projects through sheer Hope and Will they wouldn’t get fired.
It sucks, but this isn’t the firsts instance of corporate bankruptcy.

Worth pointing out on the live service front that Helldivers 2 also lets you find the premium currency in mission, so you can play the game and get those armors for free
And the season pass doesn't expire so it's always there for when you get the currency in-game.
What SkillUp said about "People aren't tired of live services, they're tired of BAD live services" rings SO true. Helldivers has been an absolute blast and the Live Service elements don't feel remotely as all-consuming or demanding as many other games, so I'm not all that bothered by them.

I played the skull and bones beta for 2 hours and couldn't anymore. I was so shocked seeing how many of their studios worked on it when the title screen came on. So much time on something that's meh at best. I appreciate that they let me try it before wasting my money on it. After the 2 hours of beta I uninstalled it.

Precisely. And this (the studios and money spent) is what their CEO was referring to when he said AAAA title. The A is a purely fiscal designator - it has nothing to do whatsoever with graphics or gameplay. I was surprised Ralph got this wrong when he called it AA at best. The A's do not have anything to do with quality. They should, because if you have a big budget, you expect that to show. But we know that doesn't always happen.

Mario vs. Donkey Kong goes even farther back than GBA, and it's worth checking out! Donkey Kong on the original Game Boy starts out like a take on the classic arcade game, but then reveals itself to be the puzzle game that went on to be Mario vs. Donkey Kong. Such an underrated puzzle series.
As of this moment (811 AM PT) Arkham Knights has over 3K concurrents, suicide squad had just over 1300 and Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden has around 2200. Even the AA single player game is more popular than suicide squad.
Helldivers 2 is an immediate favourite. Up there with the best co-op shooters. So intense and immersive and FUN.

Helldivers is so much fun. It’s the most fun I’ve had with a video game in recent memory. My friend and I played for 4.5 hours straight and personally did not have any glitches or crashes. 10/10, home-run of a game.

The cool thing about helldivers2 is that it feels very similar to the first one, despite the shift to 3rd person over shoulder.

The whole point of the article breaking the news about Tencent's laughable Elden Ring gacha concept was that they have precisely *not* been able to make that game: it has been stalled at the concept phase, presumably because the concept is so bad. Reporting it as though the game is a real thing with a chance of ever releasing is, at this stage, at best, on the misleading side.
The source article even specifcally cites the incompatability between what TenCent wants and what the game is as one of the reported reasons that development stalled. And not stalled inaignificantly, this concept has been in the pipeline since ER came out and it's ground to a halt in the CONCEPTUAL phase over a two year span. I genuinely doubt this abomination ever sees the light of day.
Even if misleading it will contribute to this trash port never seeing the light of day with the shit storm the headline will cause so it’s worth it lol

I’m playing Helldivers and absolutely love it! I’m on PS5, playing with a friend who is on PC, and we’ve had no major issues. I’m no fan of online, live service games, but this one is something special. I highly recommend it if you have even just 1 friend to play with.

Helldivers 2 is amazing, yes it has it's issues, but i will say that the developers are communicating very well about what issues are happening and what they are doing about it. Communication really makes a difference.
Honestly, what I think Unknown Worlds mean with no adding in-game purchase probably means DLC, or multiple to. Since its coop, its more fun when there's more content to play with your friends. Also add up with them saying supporting the game.

I´m pretty sure they knew they had to go multiplat the moment they signed the activision deal. They can´t ignore the billions of dollars that switch and playstation will no doubt make them.
Pre release reviews are more often than not controlled reviews / Free PR. Payday 3 and Starfield had glowing pre release reviews for example.

The real and common danger is if you are a reviewer, someone who has spent decades playing and analyzing and communicating about games, and your review says ‘Game A is Bad’, that developer and publisher is less likely to continue offering you review codes than other reviewers who were wrong and said it was okay or showed promise.

Helldivers 2 is great. Within a week, everything is worjing very smoothly. Their biggest issue was they VASTLY underestimated server and cinnection traffic. It is all good now bar some people still reporting a few issues on the AMD drivers issues for video cards and maybe a crash or two. But Helldivers 2 is AMAZING with friends. Hell, even alone. Fantastic.
Yeah the servers got overloaded, they were probably expecting similar peak concurrent players to Helldivers 1 (which was a good game, but never fully hit the mainstream).
It's amazing to me the shit people will put up with from certain developers and publishers that they would tear others apart for.
Yeah, the numbers for this are kinda funny. According to some community posts, they initially had a server cap of 250,000 people, which they increased to 360,000 on Sunday. They hit the new player cap of 360,000 in 5.5 minutes
@@poopoo6186 Arrowhead is not a large AAA studio, and honestly if you've played helldivers 2, the graphics and overall feel of the game are so far ahead of most AAA offerings right now. That's not even taking into account how fun it is in coop. The industry needed a game to show them how it's done as it's been putting out shit for years. I'm much more forgiving for server issues when the game is actually innovative and fun (rather than bare-minimum and predatory like most offerings). Also, they kicked into action to fix things asap, and are keeping us updated. That makes people want to support them, rather than just being silent or putting out bad sentiments.

Simogo developed Year Walk and Device 6 which were both fantastic games I played back in the day on an iPhone.
from my understanding a good chunk of the server issues helldivers 2 is facing rn are simply because the game turned out to be even more popular than the devs could have expected, a couple of days ago they raised the capacity for logins from 10k/minute to 20k/minute and concurrent max users from 250k to 360k, only for that ceiling to be reached in less than 6 minutes

Can't help but think about how sad the state of gaming is when the most popular games of the age are actually just remakes of popular ideas from 2 decades ago.
Try not to focus on the copy paste AAA games all the boring sheep play, gaming overall has never been better than it is in present times. Last year was incredible for quality games, possibly the best year ever

I watched Austin's review of Banishers. He did a good job. I was really looking forward to Banishers, but he tempered that a bit. I am still interested in it for the story, but I know I will have to deal with less than stellar aspects as well.
I'm playing it right now on the PS5 and it's great, the combat is not perfect but not clunky for me.

When i first saw the initial trailer for Foam Stars *I* *KNEW* something was off.
Simogo's Device 6 is my favorite mobile game ever and I don't know of another game that has fit that platform so well. For that alone, Lorelei and the Laser Eyes is a day 1 purchase for me.
Device 6 is absolutely incredible, 100% agreed. It's a bit like if House of Leaves was adapted to digital. Too bad it's only on iOS.
Year Walk and the companion app were great as well. Really looking forward to Lorelei, glad Simogo is returning to their creepy puzzle-solving style!
As a PS5 owner I really hope Halo goes multiplatform, I've had a 360 but never got to play it and it looks fun as hell

As a pS5 owner I really hope it doesn’t. I want Xbox to have exclusives so that it doesn’t die after the next gen or simply become a streaming box with gamepass.
Exclusives may be anti consumer but they are a necessary evil which drives competition and investment as Skillup said in his video last week.
I understand why Microsoft is doing this: they didn’t make great exclusives and the good ones they had like Halo underperformed. Microsoft lost the console war so now wants to speed up a digital only future which locks out retailers for larger profits. Most people will end streaming with online service games and game pass subscription prices will keep rising. That’s what Microsoft wants.
I can live without Halo and prefer Sony’s exclusives. I wish Microsoft would concentrate on making its own ones great exclusives rather than firing employees.
Yeah, the only way Halo is going to PlayStation is if Xbox no longer has hardware. It’s the IP that made Xbox as ubiquitous as it is. It is fun as hell though.

Played the demo for Homeworld 3 and it was awesome. Brings back the feels of playing the OG back in Y2K on my very first PC but with better control and visuals. I really feel like this one is gonna be worth the wait.
I'm loving Helldivers 2. The game wasn't even giving rewards for a lot of the missions I did over the weekend due to a bug (now patched) and I was still having fun. Just goes to show that a live-service game will do just fine if it's a good game at it's core, on launch. People will wait for bug fixes & stick around for more content. What we won't do is keep playing a bad game on launch, with the promise that it will get good eventually.
