  • What does practicing emotional intelligence mean? How can you move from theory to practice? Often times people get lost in the theory of emotional intelligence and they might have a hard time to move into action. So how do you actually do it?
Not everything in Malcom Gladwell's bestselling book Outliers is accurate. To become a master of practice; time and repetition is not enough, and it's not as easy as 10000 for success. How you practice matters more than the hours you practice.
In this video from the series Emotional Intelligence Explained episode #16, Joshua Freedman explains how we can go from theory to practice and start practicing emotional intelligence. Perhaps you have seen our previous video about debunking Malcom Gladwell's 10000 hours rule, where we explore the concept of practicing. If so, you might find this episode interesting, since it gives us an idea of what are some practical ways of practicing emotional intelligence, right now, tomorrow and in our lifetime.
Ready for more about emotional intelligence? Want to be better with neuroscience? Emotional Intelligence is a set of learnable skills and you can increase your EQ today to create a positive future.

Thanks a lot for your video! Well, I try not to lie to myself and others. Always try to understand people before respond. Realize myself at every single moment of time.

Good video! You might want to turn down the volume of the music a tad. Not that it matters to me. But some people might appreciate that, who can’t distinguish between your voice and the music as well.

I gently agree as well. I work with English language learners and the need for background music on videos is really distracting. Not just this video but so many videos on CZcams.

I really appreciate your EQ videos, but in this one the music deflects my attention away from your message, just soften it could help.

🙃 I loved the talk, and will watch it again - but as Barabara Elmbeck mentioned 9 months ago, the music made it hard for me to concentrate fully. - maybe I could have a go using EQ to pay less attention to what I cannot control, so as to get around this difficulty ???

Interesting that 'Compassion' is the very word that I personally chose as my word of the year, for my life, this year.

What is lacking in the emotions world. Is deffinitions, being that they reflect the pathways that the emotion arises.
Yes emotions can be layered, and thus what is a lable at that point.
But we would have to say the relationship between what we are doing being our current emotional state and, the external influece both should have foundations that can be altered.
Take fpr example doing the dishes, then being interupted. We are only distressed if we dont fully ingage with the distress and ignore the dishes. The distress is the loss of joy from doing the dishes, just change your sorce of joy.
    Simple. Ya 😂

HI Reem-- yes having goals is the third level-- the lifetime level. But in moment to moment interactions, you can use EQ to decide how you want to respond. In the daily interactions you can choose how you want to show up, to assume the good in people, to pause before you respond. hope this helps!
