Cutting hardwood tenons with the jigsaw table

- How to cut hardwood tenons with the jigsaw table. It takes a lot of time, so it was not a great idea to cut hardwood tenons with the jigsaw table, because the jigsaw must make a lot of effort to cut this wood. And it also jumps more than softwood. Besides that it is no easy to cut with precision, so later I had to use a chisel to adjust the dimensions of the tenon so it fit in the mortise I had made. But I think this is an interesting way to cut tenons to make wood joints.

I love videos with trial and error. The ones that present a perfect result for the first time reek like a lie.
I learned a lot from your video...thanks pal
For me, trial and error is one of the entertaining features of wood working.
i've just made a table with inverted jigsaw and it work perfect ive fitted it with fork shaped shoe that is adjustable and it holds the wood down as it is cut . total amazed how well it works and cuts thanks for the original idear excellent video thanks
Thank you very much sir nice work we like it ✋🌷🇱🇰
Well done Sergio .
Keep up the good work .
Even though it did not work exactly as you intended, it was probably much faster than cutting by hand. Nice job, thanks from Chicago!
It's always interesting to watch you're DIY projects in woodworking. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for sharing this experiment.
Hey, if you use the right blade for jigsaw you can cut it easyly. I advice to look to Bosch Jigsaw Blades for cutting wood. Thank you for video.
Hello Sergio and Happy new year!
I am completely agree that it's always great watching you work!
I like your vid's, you're working with wat you have and that is great! Felice Navidad!
Nico Bogaard
always been a little wary of that inverted jigsaw mate but you seem to like it. thanks for sharing and happy Christmas!
Thanks for showing & sharing that
It is great that you show and explain mistakes
nice work
Nice effort!
Böyle eğitici videoları gösterip seyredenler hoşnut olup youtubeye sonsuz teşekkürler ederler bende bu kişilerden biriyim çok ama çok teşekkürler ederim
bravo pour la présentation merci
Good video. Not always do things go as we expect or want to go. But the final result wasn't bad at all.
Thanks for sharing.
Best wishes for 2017 for you and your family.
I'm looking forward to your next videos.
Greetings from Slovakia.
Um dos melhores vídeos que já vi sobre o assunto. Muito explicativo sem perder o foco porem agradável de se assistir. Atenciosamente muito agradeço.
One of the best videos I've ever seen on the subject. Very explanatory without losing the focus but pleasant to watch. Sincerely, thank you very much.
Do you have a video on how to make the marking gauge?
nice tips
good idea 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
very good
Nice video Brother
I like your video, thanks for posting it.
If you have no done so already, it might be helpful to replace the block holding the guide arm and bearings, with a pair of sliding adjustment wedges, positioned in a cradle on either side of the wedges, with a through hole in the center of the pair, for a bolt , head anchored with a washer securing it to the table, to tighten when adjustment is needed.
Doing this will allow you to lower and raise your guide bearings to tighten the space between the top bearings and workpiece, so you do no have as much of the workpiece jumping up, when cutting.
I also suggest you make a pair of pivoting arms on either side the table, reaching forward, pivot to the rear of the board, and span the distance, four or five inches in front of the cutting edge of the blade, with either a rod or square board, that can either support some sliding wheels or a fingerboard.
When cutting, a pair of strong springs, or short bungee cords attached to the free ends of the spanning rod or board, will put downward pressure on the workpiece and further reduce the blades tendency to jump the board up and down.
These two things, and perhaps a guide rail, will help tame an already useful tool.
IMO.
Would you make a video demo of these ideas and post link here? They sound very good, almost like a sewing machine foot to hold down the workpiece.
Another great video, and though your English has always been good I would say its getting better, also I really like the fact that you don't have lots of fancy tools, I'd say it makes you a better wood workergreat job thank you
Nice work man
I dont have a band saw :( this looks very helpful. Ty for sharing 👌
very nice
Great work. Can you teach how to make the measuring tool you use? It seems pretty cool!
Great idea or not, it's always great watching you work! Merry Christmas and a happy new year to you and your family. 😀

This where you wish you had gone ahead and built the fence too.
It may not be the best way but you got it done and with a little extra work it will work out fine great video on how to do something with what you have bravo brother
Nice
Nice work. Do you have a video on how to make the marking gauge?

Also looks like you made a nice wooden mallet
bravo
Great work dude very informative Happy Holidays

Maybe you could fit some sort of roller under the piece of wood that has the blade guide bearings, and make it adjustable so it holds the work piece down to the table, this would make a cleaner cut.
I hope you understand what I mean?

Sergio, keep doing it! I love them all!! Your efforts are great!!! Happy New Year to you! Alex R., Hoyo de M., 28240 Madrid.
i like ur English video
bela mesa ... quais são as dimensões desta mesa? gracias
Another nice video, Sergio. I don't think you've done a bad job at all, so please don't beat yourself up. The fact that you are using handtools, shows skill & not like a lot of videos, on here, where they solely rely on the machine. You could try using your table saw & sled for making the tenon, by just making repeated cuts to remove the waste or knock up a simple tenon jig, there are plenty of videos on here to show you how & maybe make a video, showing us how you make yours.
Hope this helps. Have a good Christmas friend. God bless you & keep the videos coming, as you are improving greatly with your projects.
Much appreciated, I'm sure you have & it's nice to try new methods or else we won't progress. We all have different techniques & I'm pleased you show the various options. Have a lovely day & thank you for taking time out to reply.
God bless you & your family.
Ma shaa Allah..respect from morocco
varey nice
What wattage is your jigsaw and were you using a regular (down) cutting blade or a reverse (up) cutting blade?
Very interesting , I’m presuming you can’t use a pendulum function on your jigsaw? I only found your channel last night but I like it.
Yes, I think it is better if the blade stays vertical, without the pendulum movement. Thanks for watching :D
How you hold the pushbutton?
You could make a fancy mallet out of what you have there. XD
Actually I made one. You can watch it in my video "How to make a nice wooden mallet" 😅😃

in certain workpieces this kind of inaccuracy is a must. If you make some rustic style furniture, straight cuts, and perfectly flush joints and things like that would looks weird. And if some customer can not afford or wont pay the cost of a 100% handwork with time, energy and effort, this kind of weird solutions could work.
some kind of feather board could also work i guess.
There are also jigsaw blades for hardwood, and some jigsaw blade has opposite direction of the teeth.
Sergio, i just tried to check what kind of sawblade you use, in this Video. i am not 100% confident but it seems like "Speed Wood" style. if i am right about the blade, you might want to try it with "Clean Wood" type blade.
as i see on the video, you are cutting a piece of hardwood. Yes, maybe its a rip cut, but because there is no supporting force, i would definitely would give a shot and chance for a fine teeth blade. even if you do some support from the top. But i am just guessing Sergio, its like a kind of foreknowledge, which could be totally wrong.
But the reverse blade definitely would be helpful in this setup.
Quando tu falavas espanhol eu entendia tudo!!
Like.
Good me
I think with practice this could be a good method, of course can do better with more tools
Gracias. Al least you have a wood mallet.

ค่ะ
make that joint into a mallet
I like your jigsaw table, but this could be done in less than one minute with a bandsaw.
Yoi
LOL. Yes its a jigsaw, its trying to push the piece up.
Swap to a thicker blade on your band saw. Bandsaws cut down, as do jigsaws the right way up.
My bandsaw is yet to be bought, but probably I never will buy it :D
humm when I cut hardwoods, I use a blade with fine teeth... more commonly used for cutting metal... in that way the part wont jump and the cut is cleaner
I guess, yet note that my suggestion is made so to reduce the problem of the parts moving... thuss more clean cuts...
@@robertostman2075 I see your point but metal cutting blades for jigsaws are mostly very short so are unlikely to work in a table setup.
your work is good but blade position is wrong.

4:34 it hurts to watch your fingers so close to the blade...
just use a guide/rail and a wooden pusher instead
good idea btw

You have made a mallet
LOL 😂😂😂. Actually I made a wooden mallet using this tenon and the mortise you probably watched in another video. You can find "How to make a nice wooden mallet" in my channel. And I gave it a quite nice a interesting shape 😃

I like your video, but this not making good
Blade is dull and to many teeth
But it perfect tight joint
not recommended, too stupidly dangerous
