  • How to cut hardwood tenons with the jigsaw table. It takes a lot of time, so it was not a great idea to cut hardwood tenons with the jigsaw table, because the jigsaw must make a lot of effort to cut this wood. And it also jumps more than softwood. Besides that it is no easy to cut with precision, so later I had to use a chisel to adjust the dimensions of the tenon so it fit in the mortise I had made. But I think this is an interesting way to cut tenons to make wood joints.

    I like your video, thanks for posting it.
    If you have no done so already, it might be helpful to replace the block holding the guide arm and bearings, with a pair of sliding adjustment wedges, positioned in a cradle on either side of the wedges, with a through hole in the center of the pair, for a bolt , head anchored with a washer securing it to the table, to tighten when adjustment is needed.
    Doing this will allow you to lower and raise your guide bearings to tighten the space between the top bearings and workpiece, so you do no have as much of the workpiece jumping up, when cutting.
    I also suggest you make a pair of pivoting arms on either side the table, reaching forward, pivot to the rear of the board, and span the distance, four or five inches in front of the cutting edge of the blade, with either a rod or square board, that can either support some sliding wheels or a fingerboard.
    When cutting, a pair of strong springs, or short bungee cords attached to the free ends of the spanning rod or board, will put downward pressure on the workpiece and further reduce the blades tendency to jump the board up and down.
    These two things, and perhaps a guide rail, will help tame an already useful tool.
    IMO.

    Maybe you could fit some sort of roller under the piece of wood that has the blade guide bearings, and make it adjustable so it holds the work piece down to the table, this would make a cleaner cut.

    Another nice video, Sergio. I don't think you've done a bad job at all, so please don't beat yourself up. The fact that you are using handtools, shows skill & not like a lot of videos, on here, where they solely rely on the machine. You could try using your table saw & sled for making the tenon, by just making repeated cuts to remove the waste or knock up a simple tenon jig, there are plenty of videos on here to show you how & maybe make a video, showing us how you make yours.
    Hope this helps. Have a good Christmas friend. God bless you & keep the videos coming, as you are improving greatly with your projects.

    in certain workpieces this kind of inaccuracy is a must. If you make some rustic style furniture, straight cuts, and perfectly flush joints and things like that would looks weird. And if some customer can not afford or wont pay the cost of a 100% handwork with time, energy and effort, this kind of weird solutions could work.

    • @dekurvajo
      @dekurvajo Před 7 lety

      some kind of feather board could also work i guess.
      There are also jigsaw blades for hardwood, and some jigsaw blade has opposite direction of the teeth.

    • @dekurvajo
      @dekurvajo Před 7 lety

      Sergio, i just tried to check what kind of sawblade you use, in this Video. i am not 100% confident but it seems like "Speed Wood" style. if i am right about the blade, you might want to try it with "Clean Wood" type blade.

    • @dekurvajo
      @dekurvajo Před 7 lety

      as i see on the video, you are cutting a piece of hardwood. Yes, maybe its a rip cut, but because there is no supporting force, i would definitely would give a shot and chance for a fine teeth blade. even if you do some support from the top. But i am just guessing Sergio, its like a kind of foreknowledge, which could be totally wrong.
      But the reverse blade definitely would be helpful in this setup.
