When I lived in Virginia I could not believe the heat and humidity. I also lived in Greenville South Carolina which seemed cooler that VA. North Carolina may be a little warmer than VA. All that hard manual work you folks do is keeping your bodies trim and in shape. That is how I look at manual labor, I love it. It is work + exercise at the same time.

you sure have some nice red soil there, good stuff. A guy from Kentucky told me that our dirt near Fargo ND is so black when it rains, that he once walked out into a field to touch it, make sure it wasn't coal. I would use those rocks in softs spots, make existing roads and trails more solid, fill in with gravel

Awesome video, definitely one for the archives. Such quality. Brings back memories. We picked thousands of rocks back in the day, threw them into a trailer, then got to throw them out into the pile. You have a beautiful family. The scenery is priceless. The storm, life on the porch, life in the field, the anticipation for a nice steady day of rain. You can't "make" this quality up, it has to be lived. Thanks for bringing it into our homes. As we look across the farm field in indiana there are plenty of rock to gather as the mood swings your way, thru younger years we did the task with fun and excitement throwing small dirt clods to stir the fun pot. In later years I cant wait to get back to the dirt and pick up a LOAD of rock and find a precious treasure in a beautiful ARROWHEAD. And then you see the beautiful crystalite white stone that makes the effort all worth while ,AND get that metal detector out for the additional treasure lost years ago like a horse shoe or adjustable wrench or equipment part with tools of all sorts lost from old farm equipment....I think I will go rock picking right now....KEEP PICKING FUN GOING....

Never had any trouble out of it with proper maintenence. There tough machines. Sold it last year and bought a new 825 Gator. Hope it lasts as long and does as good. Hope yall had a great fourth. On 2 of our farms, we only had to pick some rocks in a few areas (like maybe a flat hay rack full). But our 3rd farm ... UFFDA ... KILLER! We had one 10 acre field that yielded 10-12 hay racks full of rocks! It was a family event. My dad handled the loader tractor, big rocks & dumping the rocks ... my mom, aunt, a couple cousins & 3 sisters picked rocks. Luckily, I was the one who had the "chore" of seeding oats & grass seed mostly because we had to load the oats via bushel baskets and it would take 2 of them to lift and it was too high as well.

Well Meredith, I was up your way yesterday afternoon and thought about you and Lawrence as I was riding up thru caswell co especially when I got close to the river. I had to run from Burlington to Danville and back.
I’m worried about my crops too, but I raise produce and I’ve got record numbers of cantaloupe this year and they are ok size but should be 30% bigger than they are but I can’t get enough water to them and the tomatoes and everything else. This is our income for the entire year so it does wear on ya.
We will pray that your crops and cattle have good yields this year so we can put worry away till next year.

You have another new subscriber. I like Ur attitude & Your vlog. I'm an old timer that was raised on a farm & ranch in Montana. One of my many summer jobs was picking rock. Thx for the memories...wayne

Way back when I did this, we used a wagon to throw the rocks on. Many years later, when I was an adult, I would go stay with my cousin for a couple of days to go squirrel huntin, and he would be the one to wake me up, and sometimes he would just say... its too windy to haul rocks....lol So I was confused, but later remembered the rock gathering we did and figured, well... if its that windy, we will never find a squirrel...lol

That's about 5ft worth of rocks in some of our fields (the joys of farming around a quarry) we no-till everything or minimum till with a disk, deep tilling just brings them up quicker. Congrats on the new mule, looks like it's in pretty good shape. Glad you guys had a great 4th. Thanks for sharing and I look forward to your next video.

Oh yeah, I know this wasn't a huge amount. He already got a bunch out, but you know they just keep coming lol. The mule seems to be in great shape for it's age and hasn't been used much. Happy to have it now!
