    Hi! I'm a farm wife, mama to two and coffee addict - raking my way through life on the farm, inviting you along. I believe all of our stories matter and that they all relate more than we think.
    My husband, two children and I work and live on a beef cattle operation in Milton, NC on the Central NC/VA line. No two days are the same around here and I use this vlog to show the good, the bad, the hard and the rewarding we find in this life. If you like what you see, I'd love for you to subscribe and tell a friend who might enjoy, as well. This community is growing and I love interacting with you all. Farm hard, live well.

    I think that the two small building next to the mule barn were used to dry tobacco. Hang is up to dry and that is why the walls have spaces in them to allow the air to blow in and out

    Much enjoyed the farm tour . Your husband is right that long leaves in cotton are better in summer. The older the shirts the more comfortable on a hot day. Tell the farmer I use , used dental floss to sew my shirts and work pants when they get holes. The sew job holds up longer. I also plowed a mule when I was a boy. We had a lot of mules for the logging and farm. I still love the smell in a tack room with harness and saddles. We had several river places and big rains required us to ride horses to get the cows up to the barn. Thanks for showing your walls and pictures. Your mom was good looking and sweet looking as well. Thanks for sharing your life on the farm with us. I miss those days and your videos bring it back to memory. Jim, TN

      Did they still use Mules in the 70's or late 60's ??

    • @comtek942
      @comtek942 Pƙed 5 lety

      Banjo Benson , I grew up in rural America during the 40's and 50s. We had mules for farm work and logging in the 40s and early 50s and they were replaced in the 50s however the mules continued to live on our farm in retirement until they died. Mules were still used for gardens and by some farmers who could not afford a tractor. As a young boy I would work with some of the older farm hands and they would let me plow. I was not strong enough to plow a straight row so my plowing was limited to the kindness of the workers who let me have the experience because I would ask. I remember an occasion when I was a young teen ager watching our log crew trying to haul a load of logs up a hill. My father had the Cat operator pushing from behind the truck and when that was not enough my father had some workers hitch a team of huge mules in front of the truck and the combination of the truck, the Cat pushing behind and the mules got the load of logs up the hill to the gravel road. I remembering struck by the event as I watched my father as he took over the huge mules and coaxed them to pull with out any force but simply talking to the mules. I never saw that again on our farm or in the woods with the loggers. Forgive the long answer and thank you for the query. Jim

    He's right, cotten gets wet with sweat and keeps u cool n the summer. Raced motorcycles when i was young and cotten jerseys were much cooler than nylon as u moved thru the air. He does not worry about holes n clothes cause he has work to do and they will just get dirty and torn more. I c it that way cause thats how i am. Lol

    What He Says About Long Sleeves Is All Correct. It Did Not Take Me Long When I Was A Youngster Working The Hayfields In Summer To Take "My" Farmers Advice about long sleeves . We Bailed Big Square Bales and the hay would scratch The Dickens Out Of Your Forearms Real Quick Like Plus ,Yes The Sweat On The Shirt Would Act Like A Swamp cooler of sorts when you were bailing in the Breeze...
