    Check out all the other work I have done to my 1999 Golf. I put it all in the playlist. ---> czcams.com/play/PL7N0OSFkZShFEH3iyEX3eL4xd9qatJWTo.html

      Hi, like your video. Just wanted to ask as my brother is going to be replacing my braking system on my golf mk3 vr6 2.8. New front and rear discs, pads, calipers, disc covers and handbrake cables, replacing front brake pipes, and front and rear hoses, got new fittings for them too. I bought bolts and repair kits too for calipers and disc covers. Are there other fittings I should consider?

      @@paintsilj That sounds good. You are more prepared than I was. I think that will do it. Make sure you have plenty of brake fluid and I think that's it. Good luck!!

      @MaqsVids cheers. Yes I've bought brake fluid as well. Should be good when it's done. Thanks

    I'm planning the same job on my '04 GTI. Seeing your video helps me better understand what parts to order in advance.

    The joy of owning a Golf MK4! I needed to change the brake pads and discs on a 2003 1.4 16v Match edition. To begin with the Match edition seems to have lots of different parts to standard MK4s - trying to find videos that were relevant is a nightmare. But that's only the start of it. This video highlights how one job quickly turns into two jobs which quickly turns into four jobs and so on.
    Changing the discs also highlighted that the disc dust/splash covers had completely corroded and needed changing. To change them you have to remove the hub's and bearings because the bolts that hold the covers into the back of the stub axle are usually rusted in and can't be removed with a spanner/ wrench. Removing the hub's usually means replacing them because they are notoriously difficult to get off. Even if you use a hub remover you can never be sure if the hub has or hasn't been damaged/distorted so you end up changing those too. While you're there you might need to consider changing the speed sensors. In the end, for piece of mind you end up renewing almost everything (bolts too - as recommended by VW) from the stub axle forwards.
    Not a problem really (I actually enjoyed it) but, because you never anticipated the extra work involved you end up ordering a new part after each part of the process and then waiting around for parts to turn up.
    So my advice to anybody with an old Golf like mine (2003) is to plan well ahead and expect to replace a lot of parts, particularly if you need your car back on the road in a hurry. If you're not in a hurry you can enjoy yourself by pottering around and, while you're waiting for parts to trickle in, make everything look as good (almost) as new: remove rust, repaint cleaned up exposed metal, re-rubber flaking cables/pipes (using liquid rubber - it's amazing).
    There's no greater feeling (after you've put that last nut on) than knowing nothing has been "bodged up" and everything has been done with care and attention....and a bit of love.

      I lifted my golf and now I finally need rear wheel bearings. I loved this video. Even though I'm a seasoned mechanic I still checked it out to see what I was going to need to bring home from work.

    Every video I watched on this a brake line snapped. I went out and did mine, and a brake line snapped. Anybody planning on doing the axle bushes, just order new brake lines.

    Did you have any trouble bleeding brakes after this? I lost a lot of fluid and heard these mk4 can be a bitch to bleed, thanks

    • @MaqsVids
      @MaqsVids  Před 2 lety

      I didn't have any trouble. If I remember correctly, my helper (wife) had to pump the brakes a lot. But, I just thought it was because the system was completely. drained.
