  • I toured one of Montenegro’s largest caves & found a stunning viewpoint looking down at Cetinje. I then drove to the breathtaking horseshoe river bend of Pavlova Strana in Lake Skadar National Park.

Montenegro’s natural wonders are almost limitless - during my road trip around the country I’ve passed so many cool things it’s hard to figure out which ones to stop at and which to sacrifice for the road ahead.
That’s the quandary I had on my penultimate day driving from Kotor to Podgorica. In the end I opted For Lipa cave and the Pavlova Strana viewpoint in Lake Skadar National Park.
Lipa Cave was discovered in the 19th century and has over 2 kilometres of passageways and chambers. It’s one of the largest cave networks in Montenegro and the only one open to guided tour groups. Visiting was easy - they have a number of tours planned for each day and advertised on their website, if you arrive 15 minutes before any one of them you’re almost certain to get on it. The tour itself is an absorbing sixty minutes of cave walking and the tour guide did a great job of explaining the geology and history once inside.
Back in the sunlight I stopped by a modern amphitheatre and found a magnificent viewpoint looking out across the city of Cetinje. There I found the mausoleum of Montenegrin Bishop Danilo Petrovic and a terrific viewpoint looking out across the city.
After a bit of lunch I continued on to a stunning horseshoe bend in the river Rijeka Crnojevića that is best seen from the Pavlova Strana viewpoint. The roads are narrow and winding but the view is worth the diversion - a phenomenal end to my road trip around the mountains and national parks of Montenegro.
The final leg of my journey is the road to Podgorica but more on that in the next video!

That is a chilly cave. They should give you some of those meats and cheeses to try down there. That horseshoe bend looks like the one in the US, but way more lush.

Hey that's not a bad idea! Meat, cheese and alcohol samples on the tour that have been stored down there - would add a different dimension to a cave tour although it will inevitably put the price up a bit. I know the Horseshoe Bend you mean but you're right about it being a different shade - both spectacular I'm sure!
