  • With Winter hitting use early this year I found time to look at the user's manual and found this topic. I figured that would be fun to cover, so here is the video.
Thank you for taking the time to watch this video, and if you did for leaving me a comment. As Always, Be Safe, Fly Safe and Have a Great Day!!

The day you posted this I was out flying one of my Old drones. A Hubsan 501SS. It has a switch to go from GPS to ATTI mode.
This was the first GPS capable drone I had, so of course I fly it in either mode just for fun.
If DJI had that switch there'd be a lot of lost drones.

Yes, I believe you are right on that one. Thanks for comment.

I have flown my P3P in Atti mode tons of times - A lot of times it was easier to get the drone to do what I wanted but you have to actually fly the drone when it's in ATTI mode. None of this GPS baby sitting :)

So, I had an Air 3 lose signal when I was flying in a downtown area with several tall buildings. The drone crashed into a building and fell several stories to the ground. Luckily, I found it. Is it possible that ATTI kicked in to the point where I had no control and I got into a helpless situation anyway? I did have the drone replaced through DJI Care Refresh ( a good program), but it makes me skittish about flying around large buildings. Thanks for your information.

Sorry to hear about your drone and yes, the DJI care refresh is great insurance to have. For me I always purchase the care refresh. I am curious though to know what the conditions were. Was the drone in sport mode, was it dark out? Again, I am just curious. Thanks for your comment. Be Safe, Dave

Since you lost signal, rth kicked in and depending on your rth settings it will follow that.. seems you have set it to preset and not optimal rth .. and obstacle avoidance is off..hope no one was injured ..flysafe always

@@benaven1786 I believe that's partly correct per the user's manual. The obstacle avoidance is not active in preset RTH and that is correct. I did contact DJI on this just to make sure I was correct in what I was reading. They told me after losing the connection between the controller and the drone in preset RTH it will hover for a little bit to try to regain the connection. After that it will follow the path that it took before losing the connection and return on that path. So, if there were no obstacles when you fly there or you didn't fly into anything before you lost the connection, it should return without running into an obstacle. I don't know if the technician is 100% correct, but I did go over this with him several times and he was pretty adamant that this is what would happen. Just thought I'd do an update on what I found. Thanks for the comment, be safe, Dave🙂

How can I do this to my air3?

    • @dk4drones

It will enter ATTI mode automatically and only if the drone loses the vision system, GPS or the compass. There is no way to switch it to ATTI mode manually that I know of. Thanks for the comment and be safe.
