This is a tool assisted speedrun (TAS) of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D that aims to be the game as fast as possible with no restrictions. Unlike a real-time attack (RTA) speedrun where a player sits down to complete a game in one sitting, this run utilizes an emulator with specialized tools to such as savestates and frame by frame pausing to complete what is essentially a perfect speedrun, or at least as close as someone can theoretically get. As such, this speedrun in its final form took somewhere between 3 or 4 months to create. This not only because it is the first full game TAS of Ocarina of Time 3D, but also because it is the first full game 3DS TAS in general to my knowledge, which means lot a lot of time was devoted to research and documentation of what Citra TAS tools are capable of. A comprehensive breakdown of my documentation as well as an in-depth explanation of this TAS can be found in TASVideos author notes linked above.
Intro Music:
- Variations on Sun's Song - Rebecca Tripp
- Requiem, Dies Irae - Giuseppe Verdi (Performance by Orchestralis) - Hry
Just because the comments seem to be filled with concerns about the intro: The N64 was not functional, the cartridge was a reproduction cart, and yes, it was supposed to make you feel uncomfortable, so I guess it worked.
It’s like burning the Bible in front of a bunch of christians lolol
The revelation right before the end that this is also No Doors AND Low% is fantastic.
I like how the part of the credits it jumps to is programming specifically. Fitting.
These LOTADs (or not-so-LO-TAD in this case) are really interesting, but the commentary is what makes it fantastic to me. I'll never hear the words "stay tuned" the same way after watching them all, and they'll always be in the back of my mind.
You have every reason to feel excited about this, you’ve done absolutely fantastic work here and broken stunning new ground. Congratulations on a landmark achievement for handheld speedrunning, and a wonderous TAS to showcase it with.
honestly this is a fantastic comment not going to lie.
@@phantoms8391 glad you appreciate it phantoon LMAO
i really wish more TASes had commented versions, i really like learning more about what the heck is going on
Great work Ben!
Absolutely love your stuff and especially the amazing run and commentary you did at games done quick in 2017.
More tas creators need to make intro videos to their tas's and lotads. Honestly makes the experience feel so much more magical. Fantastic video!
Doors? Where we're going we don't need doors! That was super cool, I have wondered how different a OoT3D TAS might look and it has me curious what other cool stuff there is to be found in the game.
I love ZFG saying NICE at the end of the run...
NICE TAS btw, I love it 10/10
That Runnerguy part in the credits is too good 😀
Incredible work! Keep it up!
Wow amazing! this is a great start to 3ds tases. I'm excited to see what you and others will whip up next :D
This is next level! 🔥🔥
You've done an incredible work ! I hope you'll inspire more people to TAS 3DS games, this is amazing for the community :)
How dare you be excited and proud! Lol. Its truly an amazing piece of work
INSANE, GOOD WORK BEN !!
Nice, not only 1st oot3d but first 3ds tas, good work!
Great work! I haven't had much interest in oot/mm3d as I'm an old guy, but this was a great watch!
Congrats on all the firsts with this tas!
Hell yeah, i watched this after finally watching the mahotas mask true 3 day cycle. Fantastic encore! Hopefully this will open the door to a ton of 3ds tas/speedrunning developments.
Really excellent. Thank you Clint Stephens
Amazing work
This is so cool. When I watched the uncommentated video I thought the lost woods shenanigans was just tas swag. Didn’t realize it was to skip the owl!
Shoutout to my man ZFG for making an appearence for this.
those are some fireworks at the end. and i Did wonder about the no doors before you mentioned it!
Hell yeah!
This year had a great February 21. Real first cycle & oot 3D (first full 3DS speed run)?! Fantastic.
You did a fantastic job on all of it too. The run, the intro, the commentary. All so good.
this is nuts
Love it
OOT3D fixed some bugs but most well known ones are still present. Bottom of the Well entrance is blocked during the day but not at night.
Barinate still requires the boomerang. Volvagia still requires the hammer. Twinrova still requires the mirror shield.
Navi dive still exists. Glitched entrance detection still exists. We can get infinite heart containers.
OOT3D introduced new bugs. Restricted items is OP.
sick
that was gorgeous. can't wait for more oot3d tasing. is there any chance of rendering tases in such a way that the video can be played back in 3d on a 3ds?
There are a few games that have replay features, but currently not a thing that will be possible on OoT3D. Citra is decently accurate but I don't see console verification happening any time soon
Not a fan of the 3DS remakes but this was a good TAS, and it was even No Doors and Low%!

👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
When you said "tool assisted" I didn't think you meant a sledgehammer.
Today, March 19, I realized that I hadn't watched the annual LOTAD. I was really concerned since I couldn't find it, and honestly, my heart sank, thinking that maybe it didn't happen this year. I've never been so glad to be wrong.
It was actually a double feature this year! Check Kaztalek's channel for what he calls the MM 3-Day Challenge. It's a banger.
I think I blinked
I know this is a long shot since it was years ago but you wouldn't happen to remember what software you used to record your DS back when you used to run Phantom Hourglass would you? Looking to maybe start running it but can't figure out how to record the screen.
You need a hardware mod that allows you to record over usb. This is true for both original DS and 3DS. You can also play on Wii U VC using a normal USB capture card.
@@benstephens56 Thanks so much okay, is there anyway you could link an example of that hardware, I’ve been looking and haven’t really found much

One of the only places to get them installed these days
When will you do 100%?
Is at 24:30 a glitch you can perform or is it something you can only do with TAS? If you can do it with a 3ds how do you do it?

Where can I find the writeup?
Sorry for the delay, I originally planned to dump this straight to a TASVideos submission as that's what I formatted everything for, but there were some unforeseen issues with this that I'm sorting out now. For now, I have added a pastebin with the raw write up to the video description labeled "Author Notes".
WTF was that Deku Tree??? I wish I didn't have eyelids
whens the 100% TAS?
Screw using the master sword and even fighting Ganon just use a wrong warp with an interesting setup compared to the N64.
lots of records here lol gzgz
i hope the cart you smashed was a 1.2 cart at least
Whoever named this game is not very intelligent. OOT is 3D
