So is it possible to beat the entire game using only Adult Link? In this video, I attempt to beat The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time using only Adult Link!

Modders need to get to work. So we can have each of the masked characters in ocarina of time and see how much of the game you can complete with each of them, and move ocarina of time links to Majora's mask game and see what they can do (probably similar to basic link in that game though. If I had to guess)

Me neither! I didn't realize how much it's supposed to be required until I didn't have the option to use it.
From doing Randomizer runs and struggling to find it I know that struggle. On my most recent run I had to use Bolero of Fire to go to Death Mountain Crater as a kid, Bomb Hover up the bridge to get into Darunia's room from the back, use the Torch in his room to light the other torches for the giant pot and succeed at that minigame to get the Kokiri's Emerald. The Kokiri's Emerald allowed triggering the Zelda escaping and throwing the Ocarina of Time cutscene where you get the Song of Time, which for me was shuffled into Zelda's Lullaby.
My fav part about these kinds of videos is the fact that you give him the name “Zelda” claiming it’s the canon name. It never fails to make me laugh

I like how when Adult Lonk grabs the Ocarina from Saria, he suddenly clips into his proper height mid cutscene
I think the funniest part about Adult Link in Child Link cutscenes is when he sort of... sits on the ground with his legs folded upright, while pretending he's standing. It's already funny enough that the game can't decide what height he should be off the ground, but then on top of that, instead of him just clipping through the ground like you'd expect, it insists his feet must be _right on_ the ground no matter what! And even though they seemingly never designed him to be in that weird posture, the engine is somehow able to do it anyway.
that's weird, that suggests a level of feet-snapping-to-surface that i'm quite sure this game didn't have.
Using hookshot jump to get into Shadow early just for the hover boots would helped with some stuff but that obscure RC Epona setup was crazy.

A purer form of this run would be in the Brawl five-minute demo, where one of the pre-made save files has you start as adult Link.
For anyone wondering about the "much harder" way to escape Kokiri Forest without any items mentioned in the vid - it's achieved by throwing a rock at a guard from an _extremely precise_ place. And by _extremely precise_ I mean _1/1000th of a unit precision_ in positioning - so, TAS-only iirc.
You can also do it with 1 deku nut

4:06 this is because the game tries to force-equip nuts, bombs, and ocarina to the C-buttons the first time you become an adult. the game saw that it was supposed to have ocarina on C-right when you tried to equip it to C-down, and switched the item placements.
Interesting! Do you know the specifics of how this works? Why did I only start with bombs equipped if it's supposed to forcibly equip all three?
@@MandatoryPixel i'm not totally sure, but my guess is that it has to do with the way bombs work as both a consumable and as an obtainable item (bomb bag)
It's actually even easier to get into Jabu Jabu as an adult on the 3DS remake. All you have to do is walk around in a certain spot on the ice and you will hit the loading zone.
That's cool! I just looked up a video of it. Do you happen to know why it's different? Did they move the position of the ice?
@@MandatoryPixel I'm not entirely sure. Considering the remake devs' philosophy on glitches (they kept certain glitches in purposely because they were fun), I wouldn't be surprised if it were intentional.
Adult Link kinda butchers the 3 Child dungeons. Inside the Deku Tree, Dodongo's Cavern and Inside Jabu-Jabu's Belly, for those not in the know. It's not intended, but it definitely happens. Is it funny? Yes. Will Nintendo send hitmen after MandatoryPixel for wrecking OoT? Yes.
to be fair, he did use switch online to do it (the 50 dollar version obviously) so he'd legally be in the clear

oh, i believe it IS intended for Adult Link to enter the Dodongo cavern, there's at least one "Gold Skulltula" in there that only Adult Link can get.
Both of these challenges are mind blowing to me, the fact that you can even do it. I know some of the tricks and glitches, but the one you did at the ranch... Wow. Great stuff!
Also, a tip for getting rupees: as Adult Link (Zelda?) you can actually fight the skull kids in the lost woods! Defeating each gets you a huge rupee, and it only takes 5 hits with the Master Sword!
Thanks very much! I actually did use those Skull Kids to farm rupees later in the playthrough, but I did such a pathetic job at defeating them every time that I didn't end up showing it 😆
It's surprising how many Song of Time blocks there are and how many times you have to play Zelda's Lullaby.
Also, I believe that you can unlock the magic meter from any of the fairy fountains that give you a magic ability, though all still need Zelda's Lullaby. I usually unlock it at the fountain that gives you Din's Fire, since you can get it right after getting the song, but I imagine that Farore's Wind and Nayru's Love would also unlock it. The only one of the three you can't normally get as Teenage Link is Din's Fire, but the other two can still be obtained normally.
oddly enough, you actually can't get magic from the fairy that upgrades your magic meter either

theres a fun alt way to get into main ganon tower room without using the statue in spirit temple room. go to the back right side instead, and do a bombed back jump towards the center piece and try to touch it roughly where the top half and bottom half geometry meet... theres just a floating warp there 😂

The game forcing bombs into your inventory the moment you started as Adult Link, with how pivotal they are to this run; now that's what we can call foreshadowing!

Thing is...this MIGHT be the most incredible non modded playthrough I've ever seen of Ocarina of Time and I've seen so many glitched standard playthroughs including World record Young Link clears.
This managed to top ALL of those playthroughs...a paragon of its kind.

A lot of the problems you encountered are very similar to a randomizer experience. Like not being able to use bombs as adult because you don’t have the bracelet. I love randomizing this game because it’s like a puzzle. This seems like it took a while to do so good job good video
The membership card actually does nothing. It's the action of freeing the last guard that allows you to freely move through Gerudo Valley.
Just imagine how screwed up the lore would be if Zelda just did all these glitches instead of doing the adventure normally /:

as someone who has played many ocarina of time randomizers i understand the pain of not having zelda's lullaby and how much it limits you. its not something you think about until you dont have it
I watch a ton of Zelda 64 content from ZFG, LOTADs, etc. Somehow you always find little tricks here and there that I have never heard of before. I’ve never seen that king zora de-frost trick, or the Zelda’s lullaby WW, or that method for getting past the zoras river waterfall. Your videos are always interesting for that reason.
For Dampe's grave softlock at 4:46 after getting the hookshot, if you side hop into the door that closes behind you, you can quickly side hop back into the treasure room, and you'll get transported to the start of the race!

that complicated "warp to Hyrule Castle" reminds me of a video i saw some time ago...
someone was doing an "any% speedrun" of Majora's Mask.
he went through the introductory cycle normally, then he went somewhere outside, i think it was near the Graveyard (which would require glitching through several fences to get to that early), did a bunch of side-hops and backflips and such, then played the Song of time while wearing the Deku Mask...
and that somehow warped him DIRECTLY TO THE ENDING CUTSCENE!
These videos are so amazing please keep finding creative ways to beat all zelda games!
Honestly this is just something else to watch, for me Ocarina of Time you find you spend forever on playthroughs trying new things or at least I did for years. So seeing this type of stuff is just amazing.

I found out that you can skip all the sage rooms in Ganon's Tower on the original hardware.
The game doesn't unload all the "magic beam" vfx when you enter a side room, but it does load a new instance every time you enter the main hall. If you enter and exit one of these rooms a few dozen times, the game will slow down from drawing so many new magic beams. It can eventually slow down enough that it can't load the collision in front of the door leading up to the gauntlet of enemies before the final fight

This is fr some awesome dedication, absolutely love these videos. I'm sure you need a bit of a break from this type of challenge, but I wonder if beating Majora without human form would be interesting (or possible). Deku, Goron and Zora are all free game, but no young link. Again no clue if that would be interesting or not, but kind of fun to think about.
The amount of gliches that game requires for some sections in this challenge is just ridiculous..

Fun fact:
In vanilla game the door of time doesn't check that you have the stones to open, since they are required to start the song of time cutscene only. The game only checks if you played correctly the song of time in its designated spot for it to open.
Edit:
There is also something weird with the adult starting items. You are always forcefully equiped with the bombs, ocarina and deku nuts in the c buttons. I don't know why you only had the bombs thou.
Do you have any other info on the forced equips? I've since seen other videos on the Door of Time skip (like czcams.com/video/E-wyIfEgPHQ/video.html ) that also showed Link starting with only bombs equipped. Would be interesting if the specific items you have equipped as adult are dependent on something!

Getting into Jabu Jabu's Belly as adult is a lot of work in this version.
In the 3DS version, it's extremely easy to hit the loading zone just by walking in the right spot over Jabu Jabu!

Finding glitches in game is mind-boggling to me. Like finding your way into Zelda part of Hyrule castle through Lon Lon Ranch as an Adult. Completely random. Also sus Link with kid Priness Ruto lol.

incredible content as usual! i'm honestly surprised, on paper this challenge sounds easy but clearly it's not
I love that i grew up during the golden age of video games where you could pull stuff like this off. Games just don't have the same flare anymore.
i am fairly new to watching challenges/speedruns of this game so i've only ever seen people do guay hovers to get the silver gauntlets. so many cool tricks to get around having no strength upgrade, and i didn't even know about the flying carpet bombchu salesman!

Only nitpick I have is that I think it would flow better if you described glitches as existing things which you're explaining the steps of, as opposed to describing the steps as a series of things that happened. "To get over we need to do X glitch, so first we get into the position that allows us to reach this platform" sounds a lot more natural to me than "I ran over into the position I wanted, then grabbed the ledge". I think it would also help split things up because "we're going to do a cool glitch" is kind of like saying "pay attention here".
I can see where you're coming from! I sometimes intentionally keep it unclear exactly what the goal is so it's a surprise when the trick's done, but maybe I could provide more clarity sometimes. Will keep it in mind!
Can someone please explain what happened during the Epona glitch? I have no clue what happened there.
If there's a particular part of it you're confused about, I can try to explain it! If you're wondering about the technical reasons behind it, though, then I have no idea either 😆 It happens when you make the Hyrule Field and Malon minigame warps happen on the same frame, as far as I understand, but I don't know why it sends you to the castle.
This playthrough is probably a playthrough without magic, I think. At least till the end.
As someone who's been into watching speedruns for over a decade at this point, and OOT being my favorite game to watch speedruns of for almost all of that time, the moment I started watching I knew it was possible, what I didn't know would be possible was doing it on the Switch version. The Wii virtual console version would have been the best for this challenge, but I understand how difficult it'd be to get that version in 2024. Also as a note for anyone who wants to do this challenge on actual N64, using Deku sticks at all as adult link will crash the game. So on N64 you would have to do the clip and jump-slash recoil from the top floor to get into Gohma's bossroom. But on the Wii VC and GameCube versions you can use sticks as adult so you can burn the web instead. Also as a little tangent; in the slingshot room of the Great Deku Tree, as long as you don't jump onto the floating platform before opening the chest, you can just use it to get back to the door instead of having to shoot the ladder.
That's gotta be the hardest anyone's ever worked to go to Lord Jabu Jabu's Belly.

so fun fact, i dont know if its a version difference or something in the NSO version, but you did the way harder version of Forest Temple boss skip! you can just line up the hookshot with the doorknob while standing in the corner of the little balcony in front of the door, then shoot the hookshot constantly while backflipping to end up on the other side of the fence. Then, you just gotta walk until you grab the ledge the same way as you did in this.
really cool to see this version of it though, is it an older version or am i just not up to date lol
I think it's just an older version of the trick! I followed a tutorial that used the method I showed here, but I had another comment point out that there are easier ways to do it.
Oh boy, time to break this down again
immediately, I'm sure this is possible, you only need shadow and spirit medallions to get light arrows, and then since you can still go through dodongo's cavern as adult you can still get bombs very easily, and then you can use then to clip into the end of gannons castle, skipping the trials
but as before, the "all dungeons" part of this is the hard part, i know you can get into all of the dungeons as both ages, but some of them are very tricky to get to as adult, most notably Jabu Jabu, although getting into deku can also be a little bit tricky
you'll also need to do more RBA to get the glitched gauntlets to clear Spirit temple, but honestly, i think this challange will be easier then the other one, although water temple without Zelda's lullaby i'm not sure is possible, im not actually sure what requires the longshot, so it might be skippable, and you can just do a water temple boss key skip, but i'm pretty sure the door to the boss door is also locked, water temple might be impossible, but i might be forgetting somthing, forest and fire shouldnt have any complications though, and shadow temple without lens is very difficult, but doable, and getting through the haunted wasteland is also possible without lens, so shadow will be tough, but getting to spirit is 100% doable, i know there are a few keys that requre Zelda's Lullaby, but they might be skippable? huh, the longer i think about this the less possible it sounds, lets see if you found a way
Wow, you did swordless DoT skip, i was expecting you to keep the stick for it, thats a really hard trick, bravo!
yeah, the hover boots on the adult link equip screen is because you dont have goron bracelet but the game never expected you to get to adult without the goron bracelet, so it bugs out a bit, purely visual though, and the bombs are another funny side effect of getting to adult with noting, because normally when you go adult thegame puts Deku nuts on C-left, if you have them, Ocarina on C-right, if you have it, and it forces bombs on C-down, why it forces Bombs on to your C buttons but not Ocarina, is very wierd
you can actually avoid the savewarp after the dampe race if you line youself up with the door until the screen does black, face to the side, sidehop in and quickly out of the doorway and the door will crush you, sending you back to the entrace of the grave -1 heart
ha, yeah, the game DOES keep track of the goron bracelet as adult, even if its greyed out, you still can't pick up various things without them, including the big blocks in forest temple, but you can break that wall with blue fire, so you should sill be fine, but the only bottle you can get is the big poe bottle... that you need a bottle to get... oh my god is DC impossible? i think it is, unless you do some RBA shenannigans to get bottles on other item slots, that would let you get blue fire, so no, DC isn't impossible, this should be fine
I really just suggested to do RBA, without a bottle, I’m pretty sure I do that again later, I’m an idiot
oh my god, i fogot about the carpet salesman, i guess that would also work, RBA is probably easier though, considering that crossing the bridge without epona is extremely precise

yup, adult link in child link cutscenes is always funny, most notably i think is after Jabu Jabu though, where Ruto is flirting with, and proceeds to get engaged to, somone many years older then her, yikes
oh yeah, because youre on NSO, deku sticks on adult link breaks it, this means i think fire arrows are needed here

this clip to unload the waterfall is unneccecary, you couldve just done a megasidehop at the edge of the waterfall since the sides of the waterfall dont have collision, this is much harder though, so its a nice flex

megaflipping to get bolero, thats so unneccecary, but its yet another flex
no fire BK skip, its not even that bad, you just fall down from the hammer room to the bottom platform (bottom from the perspective of falling from the hammer chest, not the lower platform) on the room below, then you can do a simple ledge clip by slowly walking to the leftmost corner of the platform (left if youre facing the wall) then you grab it, pull yourself up, then target the wall, sidehop right, sidehop left and mash the target button, when done properly yuo should be on the inside of the platform, then just let go and hold down, while never letting go of target, either way, all it does is save time, and youve done more then enough cool stuff already
okay and we're just totally ignoring iron boots, uh, this is going to be interesting

oh my god i forgot that you can't activate fairy fountains, you can skip this door, shadow temple isnt a problem, but you can't use light arrows, this is impossible
okay, but also doing the shadow temple BK skip, damn, this challang may be impossible, but youre making it as stylish as you can
oh, doing the spirit temple hover, thats... certainly an option, maybe this IS doable, i assumed mirror shield was impossible, although no magic still bars you from beating gannondorf, wait but you can still do gannondoor! this IS doable

Former OoT runner here (might run it again someday but N64 is looking pretty dead now and I only play on N64), the answer is yes. Actually, everything is way easier as Adult Link including tricks most of which aren't doable by Child Link. As for the items you could've skipped them since there's swordless DoT skip, but you may have needed the stick at least, else Hookshot may not equippable
