If the NHL gave each team a compliance buyout right now, who would you want your favourite team to use it on?
@@evanw564 because he probably set it to upload at a certain time. When you do that you can comment before it comes out
Mike matheson
@@filiplindblad6756 agreed
Zetterberg
Brandon Dubinsky
I’m so glad the league capped the term on contracts. It didn’t feel right seeing players getting 12-15 year contracts.
they should cap it at 4-5 tbh, like the NBA it would let players move teams if they want. they should also introduce player options
@@zip5644 Long contracts is pretty much just a way to get around the salary cap of the teams.
Baseball should do the same.
The biggest finesse is Rick dipietro. And he is also getting paid for a front office role
Well your not whrong
Respect
Finesse? What?
@@ravenr1420 he’s still getting paid as a player
Wondering without the injuries he has received (I believe he was injured over 5 time before he retired) would he still be playing?
That Rick DiPietro contract is one of the biggest fails in NHL history, if you also consider they burned a first pick where they could have gotten Dany Heatley, and they traded away Roberto Luongo to make room for him.
Ilya Kovalchuk also counts for 17 years (🤣🤣!)
Mike Millbury
Luongo was a sieve in the playoffs. He was ONLY above average in regular season which is quite useless hence why luongo lost the role in 2011 to Schneider and was traded off. I think be knew it too, hence the early retirement compared to real hall of fame cup winning tenders like Brodeur. I was a big lu fan as a young goaltender growing up. But facts are facts. He couldn't handle playoff extra effort and pressure.
@@gigakuch7204 And Brodeur went to STL just to make a fool out of himself. True hall of fame move.
@@leafsfanforever2896 Kovalchuk was 15years not 17, and he also said fuck it to his contract in 2013 to go play in the KHL (Yes he is that dumb)
Remember Chris Pronger? The Flyers accountant office still does. Although he played his last match in december 2011, the flyers had to pay him until the 2016-2017 season. They even traded his contract to Arizona for Sam Gagne, in 2015.. He is the only player in history to be inducted to the HOF although he was technicaly an active player. :)
Good for pronger I liked him great player no one forced teams to do this in any sport the only sad thing is with these ridiculous deals we the fanatics wind up paying tons more for it all even if these players suck pro get didn’t he was a great all around player but a lot do in all sports
Rick DiPietro is a total legend for getting paid doing absolutely nothing. That’s something I’ll tell my kids about.
If you were born on the day that he sighed that you would be like 20 bye the end
He was honestly a lights out goalie for a while, then he had like 5 concussions in a few years. It was sad to see
Ever hear about national Bobby Bonilla day?
Hossa is in the hockey hall of fame and still being paid although not officially retired. Surprised that he didn't get a mention
Surprised that the infamous Clarkson contract wasn't mentioned
As a Wings fan, im absolutely okay with them paying out the rest of Hank’s contract. He served us well and I’m sure he would still be playing if he could.
amen
Me too, he was one of my all time favorite Wings.
As long as you’re cool with it that’s all that matters.
Agreed, I was sad when he retired but I would have felt even worse if he kept playing and injured his back even worse.
@@JaredlS10 yeah absolutely
I feel bad for most of these guys who didn't fulfill their dreams in the nhl
Feel bad for me too-- I also didn’t
imagine growing up thinking you might come close to making it to the NHL
Yeah sucks. But these guys are at least getting paid ridiculous sums for all their hard work
but they did. they played in in the nhl, which can't be said for most young hockey players, and to top it off they got millions of dollars for it. feel bad for someone else who isn't sipping margaritas on a beach somewhere.
11:06 above brad's left shoulder
I just learned about these compliance buyouts. A video about how every team used them and who made the best use of them could be nice.
Yes that would be amazing
Bonne Fête Kevin continue comme ça 😂
Wow, Bryz's package is so humongous beeg!
it is almost as humongous beeg as the univorse
Wow Nyquist this video must’ve taken a long time. This video was amazing. Keep up the great work.
You always have such unique video ideas man. Your content is great! Keep it up!
what’s up bro great video like always keep up the great work my guy
Really liked the video you should do more of these
Players who played in the 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s are often getting paid more now from their NHLPA pension than they did during their careers. Fact.
For Hodgson, he had a severe medical issue which explains his rapid decline and early retirement.
Great video!
And here I thought hammering nails on a hot roof all day for 200 bucks was fair and decent.
Zetterberg cap hit is indeed 6,083,333m but is salary is 1m for the last 2 season of his contract !
well said..i was about to create a reply myself when i saw yours...this guy needs to get the facts !
Was gonna say the same thing. Back in 09, it was why they structured it this way. If he retired before the 12 years, he'd only be losing out on a few million and the Wings got a cap hit of $6mil while guys at his skill level were getting $8-9mil cap hits.
"....and will continue to do so" - Damn so often you said that in this video! Love it btw :D
Enjoyed the vid man
Buffalo is just an oof
Ahh yes Ehrhoff. My Grandpa’s and my favourite defensemen. Him being German and a defensemen who could put up points really got us to follow his career.
great video i wish you did 20 more thats crazy lol
Giving a thumbs-up just because Hank is your favourite player. I see that you too are a man of culture and good taste.
Great Video
When the goat uploads
Thanks for the good vid
A video on who each team would use a hypothetical compliance buyout on right now would be cool!
Part 2 please !!
Bryzgalov is my second-favourite former NHL goaltender by a close margin, but Bobby Lou owns my heart.
As a Lightning fan, and Lecavalier being my favorite hockey player of all time, I dont care what anyone else says about Vinny. He is extremely nice, and gives back to the community of Tampa, and absolutely loves Tampa. I'm very glad OhNyquists feel at least mostly similarly. Stat wise maybe he wasn't worth his pay, but as a person, and hockey player combined, absolutely.
Interesting to see how may of these were canuck or detroit players - and really only vancouver was caught with the recapture penalty - neat video!
Would love to see a new video for this this year
you should do a part 2 to this
Feel for Kesler, guys life now is a total wreck because of how hard he battled. His own kids don’t ask him to play because they know it would be really painful for him.
There is still a chance that Kesler could play again
@@leafsfanforever2896 He was talking about his new life after hockey so not officially but he’s definitely done.
Wintrz - I feel for him but at the same time, he was kinda a dirty player, could call it karma..
@@dimitrosg zero suspensions, zero fines. Slashes to the back of the leg is about as bad as it gets with Kesler.
@@Wintrz98 Considering he’s known for his weasel-like play and numerous close suspensions for high hits to the head, im inclined to disagree. Kesler is an effective irritant but that style of play can catch up to you. He’s in the same category of dirty players as Marchand but not as skilled.
Wish I could make $1 million a year and retire. I would be so happy!
Rick D I swear use to almost cry when he was in alfond arena in college when the fans would get on him..anyone who's played in Maine gets that the crowd is literally over your head for 2 periods it is a barn for real grew up there and played there... From middle school through red shifting as freshmen
Rick Depietro is the Bobby Bonilla of hockey, and they are being paid by teams in the same city. lol
Thank you for an informative and absolutely depressing video😊
Literally nobody:
OhNyquist: he took an advantage of one of these compliance buyouts
Ducks rebuild started when Kesler and Eaves got big contracts, and both had career ending injuries to both early in the contract.
There's also Marian Hossa but Blackhawks traded his rights to Arizona
Ken Holland made a lot of really bad contracts that strapped the Redwings for a while they are starting to actually come out of it this year.
Could you do most improved player in the 2019-2020 NHL season plz
At least richards went on to win the cup the following season lol
coke catches up to you
Rick DiPietro is the Bobby Bonilla of NHL contracts.
Mike Richards getting paid until 2032 is also a really big one
From Philly or LA ?
@@Sjrick from LA,
you should have mentioned the contract Lecavalier signed with the Philly after the buyout
I would like to see a video like this but in MLB...
Rick Dipietro is the Bobby Bonilla of the NHL
Islanders: based on Long Island.
Mets: based on Long Island (Queens IS on Long Island.).
Islanders: wear blue and orange.
Mets: wear blue and orange.
Islanders: incompetently managed until recently.
Mets: incompetently owned until recently.
Islanders: paying Rick DiPietro approximately forever.
Mets: paying Bobby Bonilla approximately forever.
You should make another one of these videos
Richards got a cup the year after being bought out too!
I complained about Hodgson recently (what a surprise, an unhappy Sabres fan) - but he also has a chronic condition which lead to his decline.
Yashin's contract with NYI is done?
Man... time flies...
I guess this means David Clarkson is finally paid off because that was one hell of a bad deal for Toronto.
He was traded to Columbus, he's on their books.
What about Marian Gaborik and Marian Hossa?
8:23 your gonna thank me
If I believe you showed Zetterbergs cap hit not actual salary. So like his last season he gets like 1mil
WTF... Someone sign me 200k only for 10 years. That will take me to retirement. No one will ever hear from me again. Promise
Universe is so HUMONGOUS BEEG bryzgalov kills me
Bryzgalov had a mediocre first season in Philadelphia, but regressed since and was bought out
@@leafsfanforever2896 do you know the video I'm referencing though, where Bryzgalov talks about the universe
What if the Flyers did not buy out Daniel Brière? Would they have kept their iconic goal song?
surprised to not see luongo on here!
It is under a cap recapture penalty for both Vancouver and Florida
@@leafsfanforever2896 ye I know
Wow I had no idea the Bryzgalov and Ehrhoff ones were almost as bad as the DiPietro one. Even Lecavalier is really close
Ahhhh my back ! Feels great now with 6M/yr.
I was completely shocked when zetterberg retired
UFC 50 g's fight of the night bonus seems real small boyossssss
Wow I could only wish my RRSP could provide annual payments like these guys have. Never mind the fact that there all young men.🤔 Brad Richard's I remember when he signed that contract Toronto media were all over Brian Burke because he was overseas visiting our military troops and this was the reason apparently Richard's chose NY. Thank You to Mr Burkes travel secretary!
Ryan Kesler was my last tourneys team that we played coach(little ceasers) he was mad all the time(btw we beat them 5-2 in the last game and championship game
Marian Hossa?
Do a part 2
Oh Nyquist what about Pavel Datsyuk
Surprised scottie Upshaw wasn't mentioned
Red Wing Power.
Can you do a video about players that are indigenous backgrounds.
I know of a few from many years ago and seems like a few players are having an impact for their Respective teams.
Your younger then I by a decade . Assumed because of your favourite player is 40, mines 91 and 19 .. hard to pick one over another… 90s hockey!! but wonder if there were any indigenous players on the Red Wings.
Bryz was bought out after his 2nd year not 1st. He signed with them in the summer of 2011. Not that it's much better considering it was a 9 year deal but...
OMG I wish such a union on my job!
well... Zetterberg is just earning 1m this season, although having a cap hit at 6m.. the red wings paid him more in the firs half of his contract. It's probably the same with many other contracts on this list.
It’s not the same with others on the list because most are buyouts
@@OhNyquist haha true, wrote this before watching the rest of the video my bad. But I’m pretty sure I’m right about Zetterberg’s contract tho
@@fredriknorberg368 yes you are correct
First guy that came to my head was rick dipietro
Anyone else realize that most of these end after this upcoming season?
I live in Detroit and always a wings fan , Weiss never heard of him 😂 that how bad he was lol
Weiss was the most Ken Holland-ish contract ever, followed closely by Justin Abdelkader's.
2 dumb sports contracts that paid players years after they retired. One was Steve Young's USFL contract that was to pay him until 2027(he is no longer being paid on it). The other is Bobby Bonilla's contract with the Mets. He gets paid $1.19 million until 2035. He gets a check every July 1st which is aptly known as Bobby Bonilla Day. Bonilla hasn't played since 2001.
I miss Zetterberg :(.
The Islanders were trying to figure out what to do with Rick DiPietro, saw what the Mets did with Bobby Bonilla and thought EUREKA! And really, why would you not want to copy the Mets when it comes to player personnel/contract decisions?
Cody Hodgson announced his retirement in 2016 after he was diagnosed with malignant hyperthermia.
Lacavalier was a stud, baffles me they'd let him go like that.
You do realize Zetterberg doesn't get paid 6 million a season since he's been on IR right....first year was like 3.35 mil last two of his contract he actually gets paid 1 million. AAV doesn't mean they make that the full time zetterbergs contract was front loaded
Please do a part 2. I love this video! keep making great content! I would love to see a part 2! Like if you agree!
Cody Hodgson and Christian ehroff r legends, Finessed the Sabres
Why did Grabovski stop playing though? I just now realized he wasn't still playing.
Let's talk about Mario Lemieux ;) and the ownership of the Penguins ;)
It was a sad day when Hank and the magic man retired.
cody hodgson. a perfect example of how some players get paid for their perceived potential, rather than their accomplishments. typically high draft picks get this treatment.
I remember him coming to Nucks camp after crazy good preformance at world juniors and the anticipation of good things to come.
False rumors, a misdiagnosed back injury, and a shocking trade later, it was years before his actual condition was revealed.
He had a heart arrhythmia, and suffered blackouts from malignant hyperthermia, the genetic disorder that ultimately caused him to retire far too early.
Sad finish to a promising pro career.
im sure you regret that Josh Anderson contract right now!! :)
Play the video of dipietro getting ko'd by the penguins backup
Where’s my boy Mike Richards, LA LOVES YOU!
You should do something like this. Just with players who signed big contracts to be in a commercial.
And pin this.
I bet you won’t
I miss the old background music!
How do you not mention Vinny being bought out a second time by Philly?
You use the AMAZING RobTalksHockey music
