I had this dream once, it was terrifying.
I remember seeing Jupiter closer and closer and feeling how air was missing while I tried to explain my family that Earth's atmosphere was no longer. I woke up traumatized lol

Whenever I think I'm having a bad day, I can always watch a What If video and tell myself, at least it ain't that bad, And one side note, your channel always has some incredible animations. Seeing Jupiter fill the entire Earth sky, is terrifying, exciting, and magnificent all in one.

If Jupiter left its orbit, I suspect every other planet's orbit would be distorted by that immense shift of gravity. Those nice concentric (slightly elliptical) orbits would go wild. That's a factor not addressed in the video. Otherwise, it was cool.

Interesting thought.
My only criticism is that if Jupiter's orbital speed went up it would move away from the sun, the only way jupter would fall inwards towards the sun, its orbital speed would have to drop to almost nothing, and realistically speaking if a star were to pass too closely to our solar system it could cause Jupiter to start falling towards the sun.
Exactly, I have played kerbal space program enough to know that the video was wrong about that detail.
Inaccurate statement: The video claims that Jupiter is 11 times larger than Earth. In fact, it is 1300 times as large as Earth! While 11 times is correct in terms of diameter, its volume -- how much space it takes up -- is 1300 times as large as Earth's volume. "Volume" is usually what I think of when I think of the concept of "size."
It's like Jupiter wandered into the inner solar system to get a midnight snack.

@@paulanthony5274 He really needs to specify what he means by "bigger". He's about right if he means in a single dimension, Jupiter's roughly 11 times the diameter of Earth. Completely off the mark if you mean mass or volume, which is a more appropriate default thing to think about when you say "bigger".
I was more annoyed by 3:00 - Jupiter's gravitational pull is about 4 times that of Earth's - which is completely wrong no matter how you slice it. Jupiter's mass is over 300 times Earth's, and the formular for the gravitational force is directly relative to the mass, therefore it's gravitational pull is over 300 times that of Earth's. Can't have meant surface gravity either, that's about 2.5G.

Due to the curvature of space around Jupiter due to its mass, wouldn't the chances be greater for Earth to be trapped into Jupiter's gradational field and orbit, becoming a moon of Jupiter? Or be flung out into deep space?
All the possibilities you mention could actually happen, the outcome would depend on what are, so to say, the "starting" velocities of each planet relative to each other. The situation described in the video simply is "what if Jupiter suddenly changed its velocity IN SUCH A WAY that it would eventually collide with Earth". The content creators picked this scenario because... well, it's more chaotic and fun.
Last video he said asteroid belt is dense and you’d need to navigate through it. Now the asteroid belt is so massive it may be possible for Jupiter to pass through it untouched. Which is it
Both can be true.
The odds untouched are so slim. It is not going to punch through at a 90 degree vector to the orbiting Asteroids keeping exposure time to a minimum but would mingle among them in the same orbit as it slowly spiraled in . Overtaking them from behind.

NGL I saw this things in my dream...it was one of the most nerve wrecking and horror experience of my life...slowly Jupiter was closing the earth it was not only a gas giant but a fire giant which was ready to explode..I never felt so relieved after waking up
Jupiter wouldn't simply pass through the asteroid belt.
It would capture many of them in the process, just as the likeliest outcome of Jupiter passing close to Earth would be capture into its planetary system, turning Earth into a moon in Jupiter's orbit.

I thought we'd be pulled outside of earth along with most of the things on earth's surface by Jupiter's massively stronger gravity and earth itself would crumble into pieces and float around Jupiter instead of having an actual impact, forming a ring or a belt of smaller partciles way before Jupiter "collides" with us. Kind of like what would happen to the moon if it were to hit us
Life is hellish on Earth without Jupiter colliding with it anyways. Bring it on. Misery will be over quicker.

I have getting dreams being in space watching thousands os galaxies planets and suns. I remember I am in a round place made of glass, I can se the darkness of the universe. Suddenly someone that for some reason I can’t see, but it’s next to me say: look! Then o get closer to the giant windows and I see a lot of pa ets I can’t even count them. In the dream I can’t keep the look for more than seconds and I see my self watching away while I still can see the planets lights in the corner of my eye. It is marvelous but scare as well. This video makes me feel that sensation❤😮

I never believed that Jupiter had no surface. Still don't. Well, it's when the L. Shoemaker Comet hit Jupiter, and it left burn marks. It hit something that caused those dark burn marks and l think it was it's surface.
Jupiter's cloudy existence means there is a surface, because the clouds of Jupiter hug the surface closely and that gives it that tight squeeze between Jupiter's surface and its atmosphere. Like a heat wave on the road or desert terrain.
I had a dream about this once and wrote it down. I was hoping to develop it into a movie screenplay, which I was going to call Jovian Sky. I even asked my astronomy professor about the probability and results of such an event. Then Lars Von Trier made Melancholia, and I figured it had already been done, plus it had already been done prior to that anyway: When Worlds Collide.
...Anywho, that dream was horrifying!

Earth was at the completely opposite side of Jupiter while orbiting Sun, when Jupiter gets at the Earth's orbital position?
Will Earth have any affects of Jupiter's gravity? And how far will Jupiter be gone until Earth gets to it's older position in 6 Earth months?
I think I'm more worried about NEOs because they aren't well documented enough and they are certainly triggers for extintion events. Even if they don't cause direct extintion, they have caused incredible damages and emergency situations like Chelyabinsk or Tunguska
