Great video in concept. Saw some issues such as posts may get in the way using the table saw when cross cutting a full sheet of ply near the ends. But the biggest issue I see is getting from the front of the planer to the back. Have to walk around the jointer or table saw. No matter how big a shop is its still hard to setup. Definitely get those tools on wheels.

Great job! Your space is awesome. I don’t have quite that much space, so I’ve put everything on wheels and can arrange and move them all around as needed. I’ve also done similar layout work, except I’ve cut out the sizes to scale and moved them around on the scaled full drawing.
On two non-related issues - kudos to your being mentioned in the “Start Making” CZcams video as a top woodworker channel. You were mentioned with some really top notch channels, too! Way to go.
Secondly, whenever I click on one of your affiliate links (mostly Amazon) it sends me to my browser, not offering to open in Amazon app. I’ve bought several things you’ve recommended, but you most didn’t get anything out of it. Glad you’re being noticed by other makers. Happy Thanksgiving.

Nice first layout. Couple questions and recommendations. Look at your layout - When using your planer - how are you going to move from front to back - are you going around the jointer? Maybe think about putting the Table saw and outfeed back where they were and put the jointer on the other side. Now you can get around both and use the outfeed table to stack lumber for both. When you are using the bandsaw, is anyone going to be bringing in stuff through the big door? If not think about moving it closer to the door opening. This will give you more infeed and out feed on the bandsaw. I can't wait to see the shop when you get it set up

You are sooooo correct TetraCNC! I already encountered this problem when working on a project this week. I'm definitely going to be rearranging the planer CNC area. It was a pain in my but having to walk all around my jointer just to get back to the infeed of the planer. Great catch. I'm also going to move my table saw just a bit to the right to give me more space on the cutting side. Thanks for watching and commenting! :)

New sub here. The main issue I see is the planer location. When you load the material, you then have to walk around the jointer to catch it. I would move it to the other side of the jointer and then move the miter saw to the office wall. Then rearrange the rest as needed. You don't really need a great deal of space for off cuts on the miter saw. You have 16 feet back there.

Like your approach of getting shop equipment preset for production. I agree your already set in most cases concerning tweaks and having locking casters under your equip/benches. I would try and keep clear floor space on both sides between saw and those 4 poles or at least the side your use to walking around. get that smartwatch out and in this case lower those steps as long as the wife don't see! Will you be adding floor mats/ or sit stands once you get things in place? I use stools/ sitstands alot in my shop at my age! Probably cuts production down a bit but they keep me in the shop longer! When finished that is going to be one nice shop. I am very jealous.
I understand your thinking about the placement of your machines. I do have questions. Did you consider the direction of your material flow? For example, wood coming out of the jointer is at the back end of your shop. Then the infeed of the planer should be at the outfeed of the jointer. So, the flow is back to the front side of the shop.
Another question I have is the breakdown of sheet goods. By putting the table saw in the middle of the shop you have to haul the sheet goods through the shop. Unless you intend to break down sheet goods and large rough-cut pieces with your track saw.
One thought, based on the initial design experience I have had with ships, is the use of false floors (decks on a ship). Considering the height of your shop and the 'wasted' space, what if you had a false floor? Using engineered wooden I-beams 3.5" width x 16" depth you could create usable space to run electric cable, compressed air, and dust collection ducting while allowing for a plywood floor which would be better on the legs and dropped tools. A 4'x8' could be cut into 2'x2' pieces making access and replacement easy.

    • @FlynndoggWoodwork
      @FlynndoggWoodwork  Před 5 měsíci

Boy you hit the nail on the head with your two observations Robert! The Placement of my table saw and the jointer/planer placement are things that I'm already thinking about rearranging. I was making a project this week and realized that I didn't have any space to go back and forth between the infeed and outfeed, it was so annoying. I also have decided I'm moving the table saw a to the right a little bit to give it more room on the cutting side. Great observations and thanks for sharing!
I love the idea of the false floor! That is something I may very well consider once I get everything in a spot where I like it. Great idea!

I appreciate the feedback back guess I’m gonna pull the trigger if it’s not accurate I’m blaming you my man lol! Bryan I’m a sucker for measuring devices for some reason so with that addiction I definitely can’t go buy a bunch of woodpecker tools as I do own a few 1281 641 tablesaw alignment gauge but I do love me some incra tools for sure! And with your latest video guess I’m buy the 32” going make t square as well thanks for helping me spend more money as when we die we can’t take $ with us anyway lol!

You didn’t leave yourself any room to walk around the planer to feed and catch stock. That probably should have been added to one side. The good thing is, it’s mobile, so you can move it in front of your table saw and use that to catch it. This may require lowering or raising your planer cart a couple inches… I couldn’t quite tell from the video where the outfeed table height was in relation to the table saw.

You hit the nail on the head! I actually have. A video coming out where I’m building a gift for my kids school and I ran into this very problem! I’ve since temporarily moved things around to make it easier, but This layout is definitely a work in progress!

Damn, the 16 feet total makes sense for us buying stock at 8 feet. That is frustrating because even in a big shop it is difficult. Prioritizing most used tools like table saw. Wheeled carts for the rest. This stuff just leads to insanity.

I hear you! I've already ran into a few problems with this layout and I'm going to need to modify it just after a couple of days. I guess It is just a matter of trial and error!

You’ll want to have 16’ to the blade on one side of your miter saw…..moulding comes in 16’ lengths

Dogg, man, before we comment on your awesome newly renovated shop, can we ask you a favor? We would like for you to check out one of our friend's channels called Startmaking (woodworking)? Mark is a huge fan of yours and asked us if we could put you in touch with him He is a Brit and a good guy, so try to be nice. We think you two will enjoy each other's content. Thanks. Now, onto that shop. BTW, are you sweating at the end of November, in Indiana? Are you planning on fitting yourself between the planer, jointer, or table saw? Perhaps, the jointer could move back a bit so that the end of the actual tool is not against the lally column. Dust collection is going to be expensive, but we know you have it. Don't forget our lathe. You may have to put it into the office. Aww, freaking Layla is awesome!! She'll need a dust mask out there. Maybe she goes in the office with the lathe.
