Nice job. It's always good to see when someone leaves their mistakes in the video instead of trying to come off like they never do anything wrong.
Mrs. Dogg made a nice plan for you to follow
Thanks for the video
I totally agree. I'm not sure I've ever made a project where I didn't make multiple mistakes! :). Plus I think it shows that we are all human! :). Thanks so much for watching Mike! Really appreciate it!
Thank you for actually making a project. I had faith that you would start doing this. I do like your tool reviews and I have bought tools from your reviews. But again some people are also looking for projects.
Thanks Ted, I’m trying to do a project every month. Projects take a lot more time to film an make that is why there aren’t as frequent. I appreciate you watching!
After a brief hiatus, I’m baaack! Nice project and well presented. Good job on matching.
Thanks os much for watching Paul! We've missed you! :)
Good job on the cabinet. Enjoyed the video. I bought a house about 30 years ago that had a compactor. I thought it was useless, so I took it out and did the same thing you did. I moved a few years after that to another house that also had a compactor. I decided to give it a try - family of 5 went from taking at least one bag a day out to one bag a week! I couldn’t even believe it. Built a new house (current one) and installed one there too. It’s been so convenient. Be prepared to take out the trash a lot more often! Cheers!
I totally agree. We actually haven't been using it for a bit now because of that door (longer than I'd like to admit). I love the trash compactors, my wife doesn't. Totally saves on what you take out. If the kids could learn how to open the darn door on it we'd probably still have it! :) I tried for the last few years to attach the door back on but still kept on falling off even with mechanical and adhesive connectors. Thanks so much for watching Michael! :)
It nice to see your shop up and running and u making stuff agian .. you might be a woodworker after all
Haha! That is very questionable. I'm going to be trying to do more of these. They aren't as popular but I have fun doing them. Plus I like knock things off my honey do list! :). THanks so much for watching!
Great video Bryan, the cabinet turned out great. It matches great also .
Thanks so much Jim! I appreciate it and thanks as always for watching!
Thumbs up, Flynndogg. Well done.
Thanks so much Gazman! Really appreciate it Gazman!
Looks great and thanks for using the going make tools. No more doubts about getting them.
Thank you for watching. Yep! I wanted to give them all a good test, and was pleased with them all. Thanks again ramontan!
Very nice job! Thank you for sharing the process. Cheers 👍😎🇦🇺
My pleasure John! Thank you so much for watching! :)
The cabinet and you are both looking good dawg. 😎
haha! Thanks so much hey starfish! I really appreciate you taking the time to watch!
Very nice work, got it matched really well too. 👍
Thanks so much! I was really surprised at how well it matched right "out of the box". And hopefully it will age well. Thanks so much for watching worstuserever! Really appreciate it!
really nice match to the exsiting cabinets!
Thanks so much jpiatek! I appreciate it and thanks for watching! :)
23:32 Very cool!
Thanks so much nimajnebrm, and I appreciate you watching! :)
Nice build this week!
Thanks so much Woodturning With John Marro! Really appreciate it! :)
Nicely done. The wood on the new door is really pretty, and yes I was impressed with how well the addition matched the rest of your cabinets. Thank you for this Saturday's video.
Thanks so much Pat! I was really quite surprised at how well it matched being such young cherry as well. I'm hoping the difference will essentially disappear in a few years!
Nice job Dog! Timothy
Thanks so much Timothy! I appreciate it!
For example: Exactly what you did with the Wixie digital readout for the planer and what you did with the Going Make shelf pin guide are better endorsements than whole videos.
👍🏼. Thanks again!
sweet. looks like it was always there with the rest of the cabinets
Thanks so much Nathan. I was really surprised at how well it came together. It isn't perfect, but I'm happy with it. Thanks so much for watching!
Awesome job
Thanks so much Mary and thanks for watching!
Very nice job!
Thanks so much Mike! Really appreciate it!
Very nice, learned alot. Thanks
Thanks so much Rayansandysteward! Really appreciate it and thanks for watching!
Nice job
Thanks so much Ken! I enjoyed making this one! :)
well done!
Thanks so much David! I appreciate that! Thanks so much for watching!
@1:33 LOL. Angling for a Keeps sponsorship, are we? :) It was a good bit .you had me laughing. But I did order some to support Perkins Builder Bro's and I'll be damned if it didn't help! And @4:11 that's the biggest Backgammon board I've ever seen.
Haha! Hey Keeps! Are you listening?!?!? Too funny. I didn't even notice the oversized backgammon board! Too funny. Almost a yard sized set there! Thanks for making me laugh and watching today hansangb!
Nice
Thanks so much for watching Stephanpetranker! Really appreciate it!
UV or sun light will darken cherry easily and safely. A solution of crystal drain cleaner (Drano) will also work but be careful it can give it a purple colour.
Cherry is my favorite wood will be making our new kitchen will be made from it.
Oh nice! I had not heard of that Drano trick. I was actually surprised at how well it matched as it was. I think a couple of years exposure to sunlight will make match much better. Thanks for sharing and watching monteglover
Cherry does burn easily!
That would explain it. I don’t work with it that often, guess I forgot! Almost as bad as maple!
Did you try cleaning your blades before replacing them? I know at some point they need to be relaxed, but sometimes they may also just need a cleaning.
Congratulations on popping that cherry shaker door. 😉
Thanks so much Damon. I don't know why I've been so affraid to try a shaker style door. I'm getting ready to do a bunch of shop cabinets in the next few months and I'd like to do shaker style doors on those, so this was a good cherry breaker! Great point on cleaning the blades. I probably need to do that. I looked at the festool blade after I took it off and it had chipped teeth left and right. I hadn't ever replaced that blade since I bought it so it got a good life! :)
Very, very nice work, Bry. The new shop is working out for you?
Thanks so much ScottyDrake! I love the new shop! This is actually a practice round to building a bunch of cabinets for it. It was nice to finally make a shaker door. now I feel like I can do any cabients! :). Thanks so much for watching!
Nice project and video, FD! What brand of corner/L clamps are you using? Do you recommend them?
Thanks so much Scott - To be honest I'm not sure what brand they are. I've bought a number of them over the years, and I kind of use them interchangably. I will say however, all my l clamps are metal not plastic, which is obviously pretty important. I don't think you can go wrong with just about any of the brands out there. Thanks so much for watching!
Dogg man, all our comments here are kind of "dickish," but we're only poking fun as you have done a great job. These are the types of videos you should be making. Excellent work. However, having given the apologia, here we go; first, clean the cabinets and you'll see that they will "lighten up." So, no worries. But, you're using that Candian undersized plywood. Hard to find real 3/4" ply any more. Just curious, why use a 3/4" piece as the back? I know you had it, but you lose some depth and add a bunch of weight (not to mention expense). BTW, whenever sanding you shouldn't apply any pressure; rather, let the machine do it's job. Oh yea, Festool, we're back to push-ups (the Meatballs; not me as the shoulder is still wonky). How many days? There are multiple t shirts. Did you measure your diagonals? Or do you rely on the square? Wow, a lot of money going through the planer! Couldn't you have bought two quarter cherry at the yard? Again, we have to ask, why banding on the back side of the shelf? It's not going to be seen by anybody; again, more material equals more expense and weight. We think that when you're using the tape measure, it's not a "referential" measurement. Did you explain that you don't glue the panels to accommodate movement? Using that square on the hinges makes sure they are plumb (that's vertically square, or level). Man, you used every tool in the shop...we're jealous. This was great. Beautiful work Doggie man.
Love the dickish Comments! :). Great questions and great observations.
The 3/4 inch plywood was all they had, I would have used thinner ply but that was all they had. I honestly saw a 1977 on the sheets. I even wonder if it is that old. I think they just found it in their back storage cabinet!
You are so correct on the sanding, I wish I could say I never apply pressure, I am the worst at that. I need... I think my patience gets to me. And then of course the pig tails I get! :(
Did not measure the diagnals. I probably should have done that. I did check horizontal squareness though, which I guess is sort of the same thing. Good catch!
Totally agree with putting too much cherry in the dust collector. I all started off 4 quarter. This is stuff I had laying around that I wanted to use. The squirells are really making a mess of my lumber stock so trying to get rid of my old stuff as much as possible.
Edge banding on the back because... well... I don't know! :). I guess i didn't want to see the edges if I ever took the shelf out!
Great catch on the on me not explaing why I didn't glue the floating panels. Should have explained that better.
Love the questions Meat. Always welcomed and always appreciate you watching! :)
@@FlynndoggWoodwork Dogg man, you are, absolutely the best. If that plywood was, truly from 1977 are you sure it hasn't gone stale? At the end, it sure looked good.
The diagonals are an important teaching point (even if you don't find the need to use anything but a square) so that youngsters will have a better understanding of making square boxes (and how to adjust the box if it is slightly out of square). Obviously, your method works fine as you got the cabinet into the space in which it was intended to be.
Hey Dogg man, you did a splendid job. There are even old goats we know who have trouble making stiles and rails for doors. Now that you understand the concept, make sure you put it into the rotation so that you'll build up muscle memory. Then, making shaker style cabinets and furniture will be a snap.
Ah, patience. That, in itself is a virtue (and virtue is it's own reward). It will come. Are you familiar with the story about the old bull and the young bull who are out surveying the herd? If not, let us know and we'll email the rest of the story because it is a bit rude for this forum.
Love your reasoning re: edge banding on the front and back. We love quick witted craftsmen.
We're convinced that these videos (the how-to variety) are you strong point. Though the others are very entertaining and keep costing the Meat studio money by having us long for some of the equipment you use.
@@themeat5053 I'm hoping that 1977 was a bin number. Didn't look that old. That would be almost as old as me, and I know I've gone stale! :)
Totally agree. I need to use that diagonal method more often. I always forget about it!
I'm totally going to be putting it in my muscle memory hopefully when I get to building shop cabinets hopefully in the next couple of months. heck I might even throw in a dado stack! :)
Ummm NO! now I need to hear that story about the bull. please share!!!
I know I really enjoy these videos and they give me a chance to actually make something vs accumulate tools. I've had my honey do list get bigger and bigger since I've had this channel and this project was on it. Felt good to get it off the list! Have a great mother's day!!!
@@FlynndoggWoodwork It's in the email and where we're from, mother is only half a word.
@@themeat5053 Love it! :)
