    If 5 minutes of wisdom isn't enough for you, here are a few more things to consider: if you want to know whether an anti-nuke will block your nuke, select a T3 engineer, select "anti-nuke," and pretend like you're going to build one. Act like you want to build it exactly where the existing enemy anti-nuke is. The circle around it will show the range that the anti-nuke has. (All factions have the same range for anti-nukes.) As long as your missile won't pass through that circle, it should not get shot down.
    If the enemy team fires a nuke, unless you are standing under the protection of an anti-nuke, you might want to move your ACU immediately. That way, if you are being targeted for death, you have a better chance of walking away from the blast radius. When a nuke is launched, the enemy team is likely to do this, so you have a chance to try to air snipe an ACU that is running away from a shielded position.
    Nukes aren't just for bases and ACUs. If you are brave, you can try to nuke things like experimentals, land armies, and navy. It's hard to nuke the navy because ships actually move pretty quickly. For experimentals, you might have to guess whether you should aim at them, in front of them, or behind them, because the other player might try to dodge. The closer they are to the launcher, the less time they have to react.
    Nukes (and anti-nukes) are a big target for teleport ACUs/teleport SACUs. In big teamgames, it might be worth it to sacrifice an ACU to kill one nuke launcher. If you can afford to build a nuke, you should probably put some teleport defense around it.
    Nuke launchers splode real big when they die. It's a bad idea to stand your ACU right next to one. Like Brnk said, nukes are not very responsive to assistance. Your ACU is not going to make a big difference in how fast the nuke loads. But if you're standing next to it, and the launcher is killed, it's likely that you also lose your ACU. This is also why you shouldn't put the nuke launcher next to other important stuff, like an anti-nuke. It's fine to put it next to pgens and shields, but it's a bad idea to put it next to expensive stuff like Novax center, T3 heavy artillery, etc.

    my favorite trick is edge nuking. say your opponent has a few nuke's yet his base layout has a massive power grid thats near the edge of that circle? maybe with a few pgens hanging just outside. fire off your nuke anyway at the very edge of his ring and he'll be in for a rude awakening

    Some extra bits to consider:
    Especially on gap it is very easy to spot hive based nuke rush build orders, they basically scream "nuke goes here" and so the enemy team knows what is coming long before you even START your nuke building. In the shown situation - the scouts found a configuration of unscouted buildings that could be nothing but hives. They also did not find a t3 factory. Therefor one could deduce that this was going to be a heavy assist nuke launcher and build a nuke defense on that intel alone. (If one's wrong - the insane extra cost in hives spent by the enemy eco player makes up for getting the smd earlier anyway.)
    Now ... if they had just gotten a t3 factory and assisted a bunch of engineers out of it it would have looked a lot more like an eco build (because it can easily be one) so they are significantly less likely to build early SMD - and if they still do, you just shrug and don't build a nuke and are now in a great spot for doing an eco build instead. This turns a nukerush from being an all-in play to a fairly cheap option.

    • @Serfdomftw
      @Serfdomftw Před 3 lety

      Its always more efficient to build on eco spot with a T3 acu than a T3 factory. In that build methodically is using, if you are not buildnig a nuke then you ptu a t3 fabricator there, and after completing the circle start spamming ras sacu with hive support.
      So, its not all that clear clut if someone is going nuke rush or not, hence the need to either just make an SMD normally, or scout a lot.

    • @NedomWolven
      @NedomWolven Před 3 lety

      @@Serfdomftw the downside of T3 ACU over T3 factory is that you then don't have access to efficient buildpower and have to make do with something terribly inefficient like hives.

    • @Serfdomftw
      @Serfdomftw Před 3 lety

      @@NedomWolven If you are nuke rushing you always build hives. Its not even a question, its something you just do. Hives are the most efficient BP unit when it comes to build time, even though they are less efficient when it comes to resources.

    • @NedomWolven
      @NedomWolven Před 3 lety

      @@Serfdomftw that was my original point, yes. If someone is massing hives they are either planning to nuke rush or are doing an inefficient (masswise) build.

    • @Serfdomftw
      @Serfdomftw Před 3 lety

      @@NedomWolven ?
      On dual gap you mass hives, because its more efficient mass wise at eco spot in the short term, which leads to a long term advantage. The reason for this is the saved mass in not having to go t3 fac and t3 engi, means you hit t3 mex faster. The hives then being super fast to build, and giving good BP compensate for the fact that their mass cost efficiency is lower.
      If you don't believe me watch any eco slot on turtle maps.

    While all the points in this video are valid, usually only that first nuke actually matters and assisting can easily shave off 30s to a minute in launch time reducing the time the other team has to respond and build+load SMD. It does all come down to proper scouting though. I have had a game where their SMD was loaded just in time, but I just kept building hyves to assist the nuke, and they stopped assisting their SMD so the 2nd nuke landed way before their SMD was loaded again. Had they scouted though I would have been easily countered.

      Nuke missiles (with no assistance) take -40 mass per tick and -4500 power per tick
      And you'll want to assist it so generally you want to have income well in excess of 100 mass per tick as you'll have other costs at the same time
      But notice that because it's technically only -40 mass it IS possible to build one pretty early, especially if you have reclaim

    How to not die to nukes
    ALWAYS BUILD ANTINUKE ASAP, PERIOD
    If you have the economy to build and support Strategic Missile Defense, pre-empting with it is rarely a bad thing in longer games. Sure, that SMD could have been like 30 more titans.
    Doesn't really matter how many you have when you get surprise nuked and now your core eco and all of your HQs occupy a smoldering, irradiated crater. Furthermore, you'll still end up with more potential combat units net than your enemy since nukes cost waaaaay more than SMD
