- Brake lights always on? Replace Kia optima brake light switch.

Kia Forte

Replaced the stoplight switch aka brake light switch because I thought it was bad. Come to find out it was the "Brake Pedal Accelerator Stop" Which is the piece that the plunger of the brake light switch touches to indicate weather your on the brakes or not.

Kia Brake Lights on - Hyundai Brake Lights on - Brake Lights
won't Turn Off - Auta a dopravní prostředky
I’ve had a new alternator installed, purchased a new battery and my car kept dying overnight.
It wasn’t until I noticed the brake lights still on after I had turned my car off.
Searched and found your video.
Thank you so much. Saved me more money that I didn’t have.
Dude, I don't know who could possibly dislike this. I am replacing my nephew's and this answers my questions. My problem was trying to get in there to get to it. Thanks for posting. This was a big help.
Thank you and you're welcome.
Thanks for the excellent video. I too live in Florida and had to change the stoplight switch. (January is definitely the time to do that by the way) I have a 2010 Forte and someone on the turnpike told me yesterday that I had no breaklights-and I'd just had the brakes done the day before. Fortunately, once I removed the dash panel and bracket it was easy to get to. It even had a slotted hole so I could just slide the replacement part in there. Took half an hour, being careful and all. When you said, if you aren't skinny don't try this, I got worried, but aside of some back aches from working bent over, it went pretty good. Thanks again.
You're welcome bud. Yeah Jan and Feb usually is pretty good but as you know we still get some warm days. Thank you for you're feedback.
You may have saved my life. I'm disabled with severe breathing disorders. I'm stubborn and probably try to do more than I should.Your warning about not trying to do this unless you could get into the position you were in. I was told the Entorage by Hyundai was even harder to get to,but I was going to try it anyway..until I decided to head your warning. You are excellent at this. Maybe you should be instructing a school somewhere?? Take care...people need you brother!
Thank you and you're more than welcome. I'm glad it worked out for you. I appreciate the compliment!
Thank you very much for this, i was able to change the switch in under 20 minutes
Thank you for the video. Turns out I had the same issue with the rubber stopper. I rigged with a bolt and rubber washer until the proper one from KIA arrives. Thank you again.
Thanks for the video. Change my 2010 Kia Soul brake switch in 20 minutes! Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Not a problem, your very welcome.
I hope it’s as easy for me. My 2010 Kia Soul switch just went I think
Excellent detail with the cameras. Thanks for the vid
Excellent video bro, I’m doing same but the plastic…..I have taken the screws out but I’m worried about cracking the plastic because I can’t see any other screws.
Brilliant by the way, I found the pieces of the rubber, same problem, so I’m hoping I don’t have to replace the mechanical parts
Thank you for the video. I came out at 5am and my brake lights were shining brightly. I found the recall buy work nights and don't have time for visiting a dealer 30 miles away. AutoZone had the switch and I bought it as backup. Watching your video clued me in that the plunger was missing which I found in pieces in the floor. Took your advice and now have a bolt/screw as a plunger. Thanks!
I'm glad to hear it. Thank you for your feedback!
@@killrspeed00 I agree. Thanks for the video. Only one I could find that actually helped.
My girlfriends Kia had the exact same issue happen. And that little plunger was in pieces when I found it. I wonder how well the screw/bolt worked, or maybe I should just buy another plunger. Thanks again man 👍🏽
Thanks for your advice and instructions. Great job for the first time.
Right on. Thanks for the information on the other part that actually contacts the switch that was the problem for me.
Good bless you.
You're welcome. I'm glad I could help!
thanks for the info very well done , and helpful... Much appreciated
Not a problem, your welcome.
Tx for the input my fellow sunshiner. Much appreciated
Not a problem, your welcome.
Well done. Good video. Very helpful.
You just earned my subscription my friend! Good vid, switch ok, pedal contact was the prob. kudos and thanx!
I appreciate it and I'm glad I could help! 🤙
This helped so much I found the little rubber piece and put it back and it worked like a charm. My lights finally turned off.
That's great I'm glad to hear it.
Insted of brake switch?
Thanks man!!! So much help.
You're welcome.
Thank to your video I was able to change out my brake switch with little problems.
You're welcome I'm glad to hear it!
You are AWESOME! Thank you!
You're welcome.
This just happened to my 07 Optima two days ago, and I'm just now finding out that there was a recall. Maybe because I bought the car in 09, but still. It's 2022, so it's not like I can march into a dealership and demand that they fix it because of said recall from over a decade ago.
If it was never replaced in their records then yes they should!
thanks man... been putting this off all week. Of course it is like 120 degrees in the sun...
You're welcome and oh living in Florida I know that feeling all too well lol.
Good job. Tx for your time investment. 👏
Your welcome. Thank you for your support.
Thanks. My little rubber stopper piece had broken into 3 pieces. Cant find it to order it. It's a 2009 Kia Rondo. Might have to improvise Helpful video though.
You're welcome.
Great information
Thank You!!!
You're welcome!
Thanks for the video and the valuable information. I have a 2007 kia rondo with the same problem, I already changed this switch 8 months ago, but recently it got damaged again. The DURALAST switch you connected still works correctly? Thank you
You're welcome and yes it is still doing good.
ok, Then I will install one of Duralast. Thank you and best regards.
You're welcome and same to you.
What is the little rubber thing called? I’m trying to find one
Thank for the info
You're welcome.
Doing this today for my kia I'm in Florida too but its cool this morning
Heck yeah good luck. Yeah it was a comfortable 72° out this morning at my house. Better then 78-80 lol.
@@killrspeed00 same here in central florida
can you pleas put up a video on replacing the Fenders and fender wheel covers also the bumper cover on a 2009 kia Optima?? please that would be a grate help
I don't have this car anymore sorry.
Hey man, just had this problem. Missing that piece that hits the button, what size is that bolt/nut, washer? Thanks man, helps alot.
As long as the washer is about an inch wide it should work. Idk the exact size I used. Here is the link to the proper part.

thank you, found them at the nearest dealership. Sadly had to explain what it is, what it looks like, where it goes and what does it do. Luckily found broken pieces on the floorboard took a picture and showed it to them. It is part of the recall and that's how they remembered it. Bought two just in case. If it weren't for your video I would have taken the whole system out. You saved what could have been hours/days of figuring out. Thanks again boss.
theGoGo haha yeah its hard sometimes finding the right part we just know what we need. Not a problem. Glad I could help 😊
Thank you!!!!!!
You're welcome!
Can you take a picture or give a link to the piece your purchased, I found a rubber piece on my floor after my brake lighters were fixed. I am wondering if that is the cause of my lights malfunctioning again.
Here is what the rubber piece looks like, www.walmart.com/ip/74015-Brake-Pedal-Accelerator-Stop-Contains-one-Brake-Pedal-and-one-Accelerator-Stop-By-Dorman/976433672?wmlspartner=wlpa&selectedSellerId=14061&adid=22222222227133789457&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=c&wl3=242068258046&wl4=pla-398752758398&wl5=9054499&wl6=&wl7=&wl8=&wl9=pla&wl10=117879031&wl11=online&wl12=976433672&wl13=&veh=sem
sorry to butt in, what it sounds like you have was the button that goes on the actual brake pedal itself. its a button that goes in the small hole & pushes on the brake light switch & you can find them on the wall @ like oreillys etc. try to get a Hyundai or kia & NOT any other... They'll tell you "oh they are universal"& you'll end up spending 12$ for nothing.
wish I could post a photo to show you. That's always so much easier.
And now my brakes get hard to press. But I'm thinking if I put the pad replacement part it will help.
Yes it should give a little cushion.
Will this fit a kia forte koup?
Yes I think it should, but im not 100%.
i found a round washer made of some kind of plastic that fell to the floor. after about an hour trying to get it back in only to have it fall back out and break into. i cut some wood the same thickness and secured it with a screw.
Heck yeah 💪👍👍
This just happened to my '6 Rio. It has 275k miles, so I don't think it's fragile (that's Italian.)
Haha for sure.
I just bought one of those plunger things I think
How about kia cerato 2014 its same sir?
I don't know if it's 100% the same but it will be very similar.
Tq sir..
The brake lights could not go on as well correct if the switch was bad correct? I got a check engine light po502. Anybody else get this
Correct and the p0502 is for the speed sensor. It's either bad or you have a bad connection somewhere along the way.
Update... There was a fuse for the brake lights, the fuse looked okay but I changed it anyway and now the brake lights work again. But I had to manually erase the check engine light with my meter. Anybody get this as well with the problem just being the fuse?
I'm glad it was just a fues. I've never had that happen to me but I definitely could see it. 🤙
I made an error on the Code I got saying my brake light switch was bad the code was P504, Not the P502 as I mentioned earlier. My problem is Now the fuses are blowing and the check engine light then comes on showing the mentioned code P504. Could the contacts inside the switch that I am having the problem with be shorting out inside the switch at this point? I did buy a new switch today and I will install it Saturday. So did anyone have a problem like mine? Thanks in advance!
Yes it could be a faulty switch or a bad / loose wire along the way.
It helps somewhat you can not see what you are doing,
Thanks
You're welcome!
Hopefully we can collab soon bro
Yes for sure. Would be helpful!
Will a penny and electrical tape work for a plunger pad replacement?
It might but won't be perfect.
Do you have the part number
For the little piece the brake switch hits no I didn't find one. I would say call your local kia dealer.
I didn't take all that stuff off on my car but I had a hell of a time
You should have used better lighting! Would make it much easier to see.
its a 14 mm nut not 9/16 you need a flex head wrench to make you "life/ work" comfortable
Yo wuss up bro!!
Hey bro
So you think this part is the reason my breaks are locked
Locked? Like your car won't move? If so no. This is if just your brake lights are staying on.
Tried to get to it and I just couldn’t reach it. Gotta call a mechanic
probably broke and fell off and she threw it away not knowing what it was
Unfortunately they designed it with a stupid rubber /plastic spacer that snaps onto the pedal itself in a tiny hole. That breaks with age and falls off.. the new switch is longer so it doesn't need that spacer. They should have designed it that way to begin with. I guess they don't sell the spacer maybe but they should have never designed it with a need for a spacer to reach the switch. Dumb design. The switch being longer is definitely better than relying on a plastic part that breaks off
