  • This is how to replace the brake light switch for a 2005-2010 Kia Sportage. At the end of the video I break down exactly how much money you will be saving doing the repair yourself. The brake light switch controls when your brake lights turn on, when that switch doesn't work anymore neither do your lights. So it is really important that you have a functional switch installed on your vehicle!

    Make sure you have the rubber stopper as well. Took me a while until I realized my brake stopper was crumbled and on my floor. So I just got a replacement stopper and it fixed the problem without having to remove. Great video 👍🏾

    Thanks for the video! My ESC Off light came on and I thought I needed to replace the brake light switch. I switched it following your helpful video but the ESC Off light was still on. It turned out I had to actually replace the break light bulbs! The original break light switch was still fine.

    Hi, just to double check, is the plunger is really supposed to be completely at the bottom when the brake pedal goes up ? Because on my vehicule it’s not and I just wanted to make sur it’s not a problem. Thanks

    Thanks for the video. I need to replace this on my 2011 Kia. Would this part still work on the 2011 model and if so, do you have a link to on that is available on Amazon? The one posted is not available anymore. Thanks!

      I don't think this switch will work for that newer model. You will need one for your model year. Thanks for watching!

    At about 4 and a half minutes in you explain how the switch works but contradict yourself by saying that when your foot is not on the petal the the plunger is fully pushed into the housing and that when you let off the petal it extends back out. However, you can’t let off a brake petal if your foot isn’t on it to begin with. Can you please clarify which way the plunger is when the petal is not engaged vs engaged? Thanks.

    • @2carpros
      @2carpros  Před 3 lety

      Could be if the switch inside of it has failed. Thanks for watching!

    So I have a 2011 Kia Sportage. I was driving along and it just died on the side of the road. We checked the alternator and it’s OK but the funny thing is. I got a new battery because the old one was shot. I inserted the key turn the switch little the lights in the pretty stuff turn on and then as soon as I turned the key to actually start the vehicle they killed the battery

      Check the battery again. Sometimes batteries just randomly die even when new. Thanks for watching!

    I changed this out on a 2019 Kia Forte and I still have no brake lights. I did forget to disconnect the battery though. Could that cause an issue with the new switch?

    • @2carpros
      @2carpros  Před 3 lety

      Since your car is so new you might need to plug a high end scanner in to tell the computer that you have a new switch. Thanks for watching!
