I was carrying out restoration projects from the age of 12 on a small brook in Bedfordshire. only to find out in my later middle age that it has been polluted by cattle effluent on a regular basis. This was a big disappointment as Bullheads or Clobheads as we call them had made their way upstream and had become quite numerous! there were none in there during my childhood the only species were three and nine spined sticklebacks which were more often than not being attacked by a fur like fungus on the tail and fins! Before the pollution events a few stone loach were even seen, this showing how the water quality had really improved! But sadly in the more modern days when people say how much they love and want to help nature the truth is that they really do not care they just say it because they believe that they have to say things like that and some cases say for the sake of being "trendy"
