I am sooooo glad you posted this. We could not figure out why our 900 Ryker was loosing battery EVERY DAMN DAY!!! This explains it. We will be installing the switch ASAP! Thank you!
I'm glad I can finally do something to help you!! LOL
Great video. I respect you showing that not all additions will be successful. That is how we learn and get better on choosing better additions for our Rykers.
Thanks Kelvin!!! I debated posting this video for a while. It was very frustrating!
I always enjoy your videos. I felt bad about all the work you put into the install then returning it. My wife took the 3 wheel endorsement class last week and she was hooked. We ended up purchasing a Ryker 900 last Thursday after she passed the class. She loves her bike and I love taking my bike out and riding together. I made the mistake of taking her to the Slingmod site and she is already planning her mods, lol. Stay cool in that FL heat.
Tattooed Alex lol Slingmods is awesome! Say goodbye to your cash! Lol
Looks like it could have been a nice system but I understand not wanting them on the handlebars I do not like to much on the handlebars. I like that you added Mitchell's video, he did a good job explaining how to hook up the switch.
Thanks so much Tom! I always like your feedback!
In the past I let a stereo guy do it. I had a similar set up on my bike. I first had it installed, then didn't like the speakers. Then I switched to bigger, nicer, speakers. Which worked great. I would not try this myself, because want you went through . Like you said the mods are adding up and my beer money is down. Take care!
Please DO NOT let the beer 🍺 money go down!!
Another amazing video, Beth. As I’ve said, I am not a fan of external speakers ... mostly because of sound quality distortion while riding , with a little “respecting my neighbours” thrown in. That said, there were two GREAT reminders in this that everybody should always be mindful of before doing installs ... 1) With a little ingenuity you can usually fiddle things things a little different than is in the instructions (the way you zip tied the box instead of double-sided tape or screws). 2) ALWAYS test before taking something on the road. Not being able to turn handle bars fully could have been disaster if discovered while riding. You are too smart for that mistake ... a great reminder that everybody should remember.
As always, i thoroughly enjoyed watching. Thanks. I’m looking forward to the handlebar riser review 🤞... or whatever comes next.
Paul, you are awesome!!!
Qq
Really good video Beth. I’ve always liked the fact that you don’t pretend that everything goes smoothly, you leave in your mistakes (interesting choice of speaker mount lol) and your reviews are always honest. Speakers on a bike have never been my thing, but I always find installation and reviews interesting. The instructions should have definitely been clearer about wiring so as not to cause a permanent drain on the battery (I would have made the same mistake). I think that a lot of people will find this video very useful and you were right to publish it. Stay Safe and well Beth.🙏🏻 Your friend, George.
P.S. The bonus video was a great addition.
Thank you so much George !! I always appreciate your kind words!!
Ryker Rydes my pleasure Beth. 😎🏴
I don't know what the directions said about a connection to the power wire, but the wire was labeled "connect to a KEYED 12 volts". If you and the other guy did that, you would not need the toggle switch. What I don't like about toggle switches you can accidentally leave it ON and drain your battery. Keyed 12 volts is the only way to go. Also, I saw some mention of the connection to the USB. No, USB power is only 5 volts.
Jack thank you for your input.
Like the chapter format. I really like animations
Thanks Wendy !! Trying to keep a boring install interesting 🤪. The chapters help people skip to the parts they want to see. Works well!
I just installed my audio system this week I like the speakers system from "Big Bike Parts" found on Amazon for $50 they run $159 for Aux and $259 for Bluetooth, also I purchased a "ShowChrome Fuse Block" so I don't drain my batter!
PERFECT! Sounds like you have the perfect set up!
I want neighbors like you guys!
Come on over!!!
If you remove the left side color panel you will find the " switched" wire connection and you can also run the volume switch from the engine area to the handle bar.
Great idea!! Thank you for the tip!
If you plan on riding in rain or moist conditions i would suggest putting amp in frunk. My amp got water damage under the hood
Great point!!!
Did you put them back on and how do they sound
Mine stopped working I had it professionally installed.. I was able to fix it with this video 😁
That’s awesome, so happy I could help.
Hi love your videos. I installed some boss phantom800 speakers the install was easy however to much power and the bike went crazy. If you have a USB cord that your not using cut the end that plugs in your phone and expose the wires. You will have a black red green and white. You don't need the green and white. Take the red and black wires. Red to red(power) black to black ground. Once connected plug the other end into your USB port turn your bike on tadah we have a connection. No wheel clearance problems no battery problems yaaaaay
Wow that is such a cool idea! Thank you for sharing!!
Interesting...so where did you mount your speakers. Did you install one or two speakers?
Will that power all 4 speakers?
The red is for switched power, which means the system shuts off with the bike. Direct to battery in a no no. Also where you put it is too hot.
Hi just got the. 2 speaker system
That is interesting you put the amp there. I have the speakers from bigbike and put the amp on the side where the gas funnel is. Less heat and protected from rain. I have put velcro and a zip tie around a wire. All the wires are under the frunk and taped down. I have a video on the women rydes site on Facebook. I may upload to my CZcams channel. Good job!
Well done! You should definitely post it to youtube! Everyone is trying to figure out how to teach speakers.
Beth told you when I install mine so the light wouldn't stay on to kill your battery. I didn't hook it to the battery are didn't use a toggle switch. Tapped it onto my USB port on the back of the glove box so when the power go off it would turn the speakers off. That way you wouldn't have to buy a toggle switch and it won't pop no fuse.
I believe I returned it before getting your great advice. I do mention in the video that people have wired the speakers directly to the USB area. Great idea!
@@RykerRydes haven't had any problems it shut down are nothing.
I know a lot of people like speakers on their motorcycle. I was never a fan of it. Plus, I think they make the Ryker look like Mickey Mouse if mounted on the handlebars. I rarely listen to music while riding. If I do, a good pair of wireless earbuds work great even though they are illegal in most states if you cover both ears. Anyway, great video as always. I am sorry to hear that the install didn't go as planned and you had to return them.
I agree with you. Just not a huge fan of external speakers. Not a big fan of that look. I like music occasionally when on a long ride, other than that I just like the quite of the ride. I find it meditative.
I hooked mine up like this but just grabbed a add a circuit fuse adaptor and plugged it into the accessory switch so now it turns on and off with the bike
💯 perfect!! Well done!
use the black wire for ur switch
That amp is going to get very hot right by that manifold
Installing the speaker directly like that. Does it ever drain your battery? Cause I did the same to my sportster and my battery keeps dying
I ended up not keeping those speakers. Yes, music is the #1 way to drain your battery.
Had it working, now I can’t get the amp to power up. Completely lost at this point! Someone please help???
I’m so sorry. Did you get it figured out?
How did you install these oval bracket mounts onto the handlebars, which are too skinny?
Not exactly sure what you mean. This video was made a while ago and I ended up not keeping the speakers. But it looks like they fit?
Thank you for responding. I figured it out! You're videos are very helpful! Thank you for taking the time to create and share them! 👌🏾
One wish actually 2 , you fly to New Zealand and do all this work to my Ryker ! Bring it all because it’s 5 x dearer here and I have RA so can’t use my hands
KIWI RYKER if you buy my (first class) ticket, I’ll be on the next flight out!!! New Zealand is #1 on my bucket list!!! The long flight is keeping me from going!!! I would love to come down and do all the mods for you!!
Hey mate are you in Hamilton ?
The red wire wants to be installed to a switched 12 volt not straight to the battery. And by switch it means your bikes on off switch
Makes sense.
How did you mount the handlebar speakers. The brackets are too bid...
They came with rubber spacers. If not, easy to find at a hardware store.
Ryker Rydes did you ever find a good set of speakers for your ryker?
No, I use in helmet speakers. Sena or Cardo.
So installing straight to battery how does Amp turn off?
I ended up removing the speakers, and I just use Bluetooth in my cardo.
Hey can you tell me what the quality of this speakers? And if they enough loud? Thank you
Yes they are quite loud, but not for highway speeds. Happy (belated) Hanukkah!
whats the best ones
Issue 1. The amplifier is above one of the hottest components on the bike ( exhaust manifold) issue 2 isn't that the steering arm? Other that the speaker clearance I think you did awesome
Thanks Keith.
Don't need no switch. You run the hot to a switched fuse like headlights. Use a fuse tap or simply pull the fuse, insert wire, replace fuse
So you dont need all the extra in the video at the end ??
@@wezzkeion7593 sorry but I can't watch the video again. I've had Boss system with external amp and ran it to the headlight fuse in the box, it's only hot when the bike is on. The Boss system I have now has built in amp and I ran it straight to the battery, it has a switch. Just need to remember to shut it off.
Cool video
Thank you Logan!!!
Ryker Rydes thoughts on the headlight thing?
I really hope she found a better mounting point and not on top of the exhaust manifold
Beth you rock girl!!!! Question I find those speakers on Amazon? Right are they a certain number!?? Or just Boss sorry for the dumb question
Hi there!! No, not a dumb question. I do have the link to the ones in the video, in the description of the video. Hope that helps. Ps thanks for always jumping on my live chats! 🤪
@@RykerRydes 😂 you are welcome you inspire in a good way anyhow I hope you and your beautiful family are well !!! You should do a show in Spanish to throw everyone off lol
How are your Boss speakers holding up after some time
I took them off, as soon as I put them on (I talk about it at the end of the video)
10:54 that looks very close to a heat shield.... How's that holding up after a long ride? Seems like it might melt them ties off
Excellent point! I ended up returning the speakers, the entire set up was horrible (for me)!
@@RykerRydes sorry to hear that you made a great video... got a new Subscriber 😊 #Me
@@Raydoug1 Thanks so much!!
What do you recommend speaker wise
It’s such a personal choice!! I actually don’t use speakers, just the ones in my helmet from Cardo.
Hey Beth any regrets on putting you your speaker near the wheels
Nwvermind I see the rest of the video
It's a nice video I like it but how long you think the sip ties going to last if you put the amp inside the engine bay with the heat I don't think they're going to last that long you might end up losing your amp or ruining it due to the heat.
Interesting point. My zip ties do very well, as long as they are not rubbing against any moving parts.
@@RykerRydes got it thanks I just install my own speakers on my Ryker . Pretty easy . Thanks for ur videos.
Shure makes a great wireless microphone.
Thanks for the tip! I just checked it!
😆 what a video 📹. Good to see. Too much work though. It is better to get speakers 🔊 on your handle bar instead. Let me know what speakers 🔊 you ended up getting
Thanks William! I like all of your emojis 😀!! I will probably go with something inside of my helmet ⛑. 🎶 ✌🏼
Have you looked at or heard of anyone installing a Kuryakyn Soundbar on a Ryker?
Yes they look great and would probably sound awesome at non highway speeds. I would just do a lot of measuring before buying to make sure it'll fit!
@@RykerRydes Lamonster use to carry them, but not sure if he does anymore. The 300 watt, newer model, should be loud enough, especially if your behind a shield.
Long story short, but thank you. Fell in love with your Ryker, especially the blue stripe. I currently have a 2018 F3T, and on Wednesday i should be picking up a Rally so I can have some fun with it and allow my gf to drive it as well. Hopefully will add a silver stripe and keep the F3 for touring when I retire in a couple years.
Keep up the good work!
Beth, LindseyAngell here. I never was able to find a direct link to you, but since you read every comment I really do not really need one. Did you try the Ryker Comfort Seat before buying the Air Hawk for your seat? It could be much more inexpensive to purchase the AirHawk cushion...
Hi there!!! Yup I read and respond to EVERY comment! No, I never tried the comfort seat, I just red enough on the FB chats that a lot of people thought it was a waste of money? So I learned from them and went the less expensive way with the AirHawk. I am very happy with it.
Ryker Rydes yes, then I too shall follow suit when I finally purchase my Ryker!
Good thing it didnt work out. That amp was mounted to your steering. That "pipe" spins when you turn. I love the way your ryker is looking tho 💪💪
Thank you so much!
The Amp on these speakers has an 10 second delay after the Gage goes off, will stay on long as the Gauge is on.. Also took out the USB Plug (Frunk), and use tht hole for wires no drilling!!!
Awesome, great job!
Why not just tap into the acc. Wire?
Great idea. I was just following the instructions that came with it.
What was the total time of installation.
Hard to say, because I was recording and making mistakes. If I were to guess, it shouldn’t take more than an hour if you know what you are doing.
@@RykerRydes whats the mpg u are getting now. Compared to when u was in the break in period. I'm getting a little under 22 mpg right now
Why not hook up to ignition?
Definitely doable.
It is to bad the Boss speaker system just didn’t work for you. I do not think that handlebar speakers are very impressive because they take up space residing where other “must” things have to go, and they are also in your field of vision where you certainly do not need them.
The video was a great learning tool for many of us and I hope that you see it this way, too. That is the reason that I liked the video. I am hoping that by the time I get my Ryker and really get use to riding it, I will find a new SENA Helmet and do my music and my GPS via Bluetooth. I have never had music on any motorcycle and do not know if I would ever use it, but I am getting older now so perhaps in the future, seeing the technology is already there I might use it. I was a long distance rider on a new 1983 Suzuki GS-450S with added on saddlebags and a tank bag. I use to ride from Newport, R.I. to Eastport, ME, and into Queens, NY one or the other at least once a month. The trip to Eastport was all backroads and took full concentration with sand on the roads, no time to listen to music, and the trip into Queens was full on traffic from every direction another place for no distractions. Anyway...Thank you for your videos! I anxiously await them, and learn something with each one. Speaking of videos, did you make one on changing out your horn? I don’t think I have seen it. LindseyAngell
Thank you Lindsey for your kind words! I absolutely love making these videos! Each time it is a learning experience for me as well. That’s actually half of the song! Not every project is going to be at winners. LOL. Yes I have a horn replacement video (I have over 50 videos now).
EASY Can Am Ryker Horn Replacement...beep beep! czcams.com/video/uYtZj-RijEU/video.html
Like the video however you are wrong on the wattage. 1000 watts divided by 4 is 250 per speaker. 600 watts divided by 2 speakers is 300 watts per speaker. More volume in the 600 than the 1000.
Thank you for the correction. Very appreciated.
I would say go with the speakers on slingmod i like the ones from SSV Works Plug N' Play 2-Speaker Bluetooth Audio System for the Can-Am Ryker
Good advice!
I would like a new windshield
Wait is it water proof
Yes!!
Nice try Beth but wrong place to attach speakers as vibration will throw them off pitch.
agreed
lol no you just didn’t think about splicing in a on/off switch on the red cable 😂 not a flaw just a newbie
Thank you for watching.
ces pas le bon endroit pour installer tes speaker et quand tu roule vite tu n'attendras pas grand chose installé ou les poignées meilleur sonoriter
Because hooking the speakers straight to the battery give it too much power that's why it pops fuse. That's why I hook it to my USB port in the back of the glove box when it goes off the speaker's turn off any won't pop no fuse.
Great point!!!
How do you hook it up to the USB port? I’m thirsty for information on how to do it
Please stop putting toggle switches on all bikes have a accessory on the key ignition just wire the power in to that no need for toggle
Thanks for your input.
how do you do that?
