    Thank you for making this video. I have a great set of 6X9's from a Chrysler 200. There were no + or - on the speaker connections. I did exactly what you showed. I took the 9volt battery out of my smoke detector and used it. Just like that, I figured out what was the positive and negative side. THANK YOU what a great trick I will use for the rest of my life!!! Oh yeah, I put the battery back in the smoke detector.

    I'm actually down a youtube rabbit hole on how to service osciliscopes, but this looked interesting so i clicked.
    This is a valid way of testing. Just a warning, 9v is okey for larger drivers like this, but smaller would need lower voltage. Also try and keep it only connected for a short time. Sub second. ie just rub the wire over the contact. those coils are made up of super thin wire and can burn really quick.
    That said, I have yet to find a driver where negative is not on the left. Seems to be universal - left, + right with the connectors pointing to you.

  • @AtariBorn
    @AtariBorn Před 3 lety +3

    So, I've heard it's better to use a double AA because anything over 1.5 volts could blow the coil. I'm assuming this would apply to cheap or old paper cone speakers but have you tried something smaller than a 9 volt?

    • @addismultitasking3504
      @addismultitasking3504  Před 3 lety +3

      Go ahead and try 1.5v and see if it moves. Ive never had a problem with 9v

    • @AtariBorn
      @AtariBorn Před 3 lety +3

      @@addismultitasking3504 Nope. 9 volt it is. 1.5 volts barely makes a static sound but no movement whatsoever.

    Thanx for the HELP! I ASSume that it is WAY too much trouble for the IDIOT manufacturers to actually LABEL at least one of the speaker terminals?!? BTW, one terminal is obviously BIGGER (wider) than the other. That is probably the POSITIVE one, right? I'll DO the test now.

      Of course I had a 50/50 chance of being right, but was WRONG! The BIGGER terminal is NEGATIVE on my mid-woofer! I did the battery test and LABELLED the positive with a RED Sharpie. I also had to put a wider connector on the negative wires. On the 'positive' side, I din lol punch a hole thru the woofer with the screwdriver, like I've done before in 1972 installing 6" woofers in my 1959 Pontiac door panels! (=
