- I finally decided to take the clear coat off my 2004 Gibson J-160e Peace Model to be more like John Lennon’s.
What size you think of the transformation?
Mods on guitar include:
-Kluson doubled ring tuners
-Vintage ceramic saddle
-Vintage adjusting screws
-Black truss rod cover
Special thanks to Benjamin for inspiring this whole thing.

And here I am trying to work up the courage to polish a semi-gloss finish onto my satin WM-45 😂
I took the finish off my 1997 Korean casino years ago. That poly is some tough s--t!
Nice!! I was thinking about getting an Epiphone next if I can find one cheap enough & strip it!
Wow, gotta say never knew you could remove the clear coat from the natural guitars. Looks absolutely stunning Paul! Did a fantastic job with getting the clear coat and really highlights the natural/stripped down look of it.
Thank you for that Luke! You can bet I was nervous as hell doing it lol
You're a braver man than me!🤣 Glad it turned so well.👍👍
Awesome Paul! Now I want to try this with my casino!
Thank you! And you should!
Funny that Donovan suggested it to John and George but didn't do it to his guitars?
This was phenomenal! We need to see you do this again with other guitars
Great video as always Paul!
Thanks as always for the kind words!!!!
Turned out great Paul, absolutely love the look of it!!
Thanks Gio!!!
looks great!
Thanks Marc!!!!!
I do like the satin look. That said, if I wanted satin or flat, I would probably have it refinished in satin or flat. Completely removing the finish can be very risky over time. The finish does more than give a look, it protects the wood. Without any finish, the wood will now be way more susceptible to environmental changes, soaking up humidity and drying out more quickly.
That looks great! More accurate to John’s! Don’t know if I would do it to mine though haha
Great video! Hey I would love to see some more Beatles Strat stuff
I have some ideas in the works for a few Strat videos!
I’m wondering if I can do this with a polyurethane finish? Eventually would like to try it on a Ej160e.
Nice job! BTW, how many VOX Amps do you have? Looks like a vintage VOX factory!
Too many 🤣 I made a video going over them all just a few days ago!
Came out great! What did you use to reapply the pick guard?
Thanks Perry!
For now I just used two tiny pieces of double sided tape to keep it up. But I’m itching to get a new one made!
Did you use some kind of sandpaper or just your finger?
your guitar its most beutiful
Just a single finger with light acetone & rag for tight areas. Larger open areas I would just fold the rag up and rub away!
I know Lennon had a thin coat of varnish on his Casino. He had nothing on the Gibson?
I always thought he had something on the Casino too. But it was posted in the FB Beatles Gear group & it appears the Casino had nothing at all on it & just bare wood!
Cool stuff man but no, i wouldn’t do that to my guitar.
y
Because crazy 🤪
How ya gonna keep it clean?
It cleans with with basic safe wood spray
