I feel like a proud father seeing my old J160E on your CZcams channel!
was it a solid top? or laminate?
@@bry805cool The best and expensive laminate sitka spruce top.
You're full of BS
This guitar embodies the biggest dream of a Beatles' fan.
DONT BUY IT
@@stevescontriano860 why not?
@@realketchup6563 don’t listen to them do what you want
The Beatles have used Electric Guitar Strings on this Acoustic-Electric to achieve their signature sound. They tend to Outlast Acoustic Guitar Strings plus they sound great with the pickup.
I have this exact same model. It's awesome. i put flat wound strings even to get it a little closer to that early Beatles sound!
6:50 "Two Ghosts" ❤️ guitar sounds amazing and your collection is spot on 👌🏼
Very good review, and yea, I would have been wowed by that unboxing it. Despite the laminate construction I have always liked the look and sound of this guitar, and love the gorgeous crown inlay fret markers. It sounded fab on the original Beatle records and yours sounds fab too. Congrats my lucky friend.
You should upload more! Your videos are great, keep up the good work.
That guitar is beautiful and looks like it plays really smooth with a great sound. Very nice
That's one hell of a guitar! I would love to own one!
Dude I have never seen a proper j160e unboxing thanks for the vid ......I'm also getting the exact one and I can't wait
Don’t. Plywood top ? You gotta be kidding. Unless you get one from the custom shop you’ll be sorry. They sound like shit
Gerard Cortes how does it sound
@@stevescontriano860 damn you really don't like this guitar huh
Damn, I just got Wood when you opened that case*** That guitar looks like its in mint condition for a used guitar. Congrats man Im jelious, I have always wanted a J160e I cant believe such a young kid like you is into the Beatles. Its Awesome I used to be a hardcore Beatles freak when I was younger I still love them but I cant play tge guitar anymore my hands get numb after 5min of trying to play. So I now just started building ukes & acustic guitars. Sorry for the rant, Thanks cant wait for the full review
It's recommended to use Electric Guitar Strings on these Acoustic-Electric Guitars in order to take advantage of the pickup.
I actually got chills when you started playing. I really want to get good at guitar so I can play all those amazing songs, but I have small hands and some chords I just can't play... Amazing guitar and playing!!
Don't worry about it. Thin fingers are the best for playing guitar. You just gotta practice a LOT!
Baby you're a rich man too.!! Yes it is it's true look at these guitars on back congratulations Nice studio, Nice guitars great.!! greetings from México City
Oh my god you’re back!!!!!

That guitar sounds really good. Your playing is nice. Im a drummer that plays guitar.
I would love to here more videos of your Gibson J160E
Terrible guitar. Plywood Top. Save yourself a lot of pain. Don’t buy it
Nice guitar and shirt mate!
Nice vid!
Una hermosa guitarra , con una maravillosa historia .
Gibson and Martin!👍🔥🔥
This is my dream guitar
Great guitar.
I bought a J160E back in 1991. It came with a deplorable "buttplug" end pin jack that sucked so bad I took it out and rewired it for a side mount, traditional jack and filled the oversize hole with a white Corian ring plug and a standard ivoroid end strap plug. The guitar has always had bad string grounding issues. All there is for string grounding is a metal plate under the bridge that the balls of the strings are supposed to ground against, but if anyone uses D'Addario strings with the painted ball ends, only the low and high E will ground. Acoustically, it doesn't hold a candle to my 1980s Goya acoustic steel string guitar, or my 1999 Epiphone AJ 15! Electrically, it sounds good when it can be grounded properly. Overall, if it weren't for the Beatles connection, I can't see how this guitar is popular at all. Another video on this guitar is demonstrated in acoustic and electric with the electric demo showing how bad the sucker hums! This video got my thumbs down for not showing how it played when plugged in which is why I wasted my time watching it - I expected to see it played when plugged in.
Amen! People are "blinded" because "The Beatles" used this model, wich was a compromice between a pure acoustic and an all electric guitar. I've played Beatles songs since 1963, (yes I' m a 73 year old Beatles Nerd), and the latest 20 years used a Gibson J45 with an K&K Pure Western that Really picks up the Full Richness of the J45 acoustic sound. The J160e honestly sounds like a tinny toy compared to my J45. Try one,, it looks the same as the J160e, but sounds WAY better!
The Nickel Wound Strings have a Full Bodied Tone.
I have the 60's ludwig kits in the sizes Ringo played and they record very well. You ever need some beatles style drum tracks.
Violão maravilhoso !!!!! Lindo , muito lindo.
I have a Gibson J-160e 1962 and I modded it by adding a L.R. Baggs Lyric system on it without drilling an additional holes on it. I added a pull-up switch on the volume knob and a switch to cut off the battery when not in use. It’s awesome because I can use it on a sound system with the lyric knob pulled up and with an amp when pushed down. I can also reverse it to its original state if I decide to sell it in the future to a purist buyer’s market.
I reversed it back to it’s original specks. It’s better just the way it comes.
Great Guitar Matt! , I love that Gibson J160e, I think that guitar sounds great,Can you please do a cover of From Me To You on that guitar.
You might like GHS nickel acoustic strings sounds great and plugged in the P-90 will love these;)
What a beautiful guitar. It is in great shape. I hope to have one one day, but for now the Epiphone version will have to do.
Beautiful Guitar, sounds great!
Looking forward to hearing more of it.
You should do covers on those songs
The D'addario Strings have color coded Ball ends.
I use DR Zebra strings, which has its E thru G strings alternate between bronze and nickel, for my two guitars with under string pickups, (one being an Epiphone version of the 160E). It has a nice acoustic song and my bass strings could still be heard through an amp. (Standard acoustic bronze stings tends to have diminished bass tones, and the trebles are too prominent).
Very nice good luck with it I seven guitars all made left handed cause I'm a lefty
I think he’s done making guitar videos guys. I found a reverb store that had the same name as this CZcams channel and a lot of the stuff that was sold looks like the stuff that he was using in his videos. Looks like the same room too
I'd like to see some beatles acoustic tunes with it 😄
I love Gibson j160e and I love your video and saving up for one at the moment I have got eiphone j160e witch good but I want Gibson J-160e 1962 like yours mate
The’re a rip off. Sound like shit FOOOOOO
Save your $$$$$$
@@stevescontriano860 Can you show me why it sucks? I haven't heard of another guitar that replicates what this one sounds like, unless it is trying to copy it. The Beatles obviously liked it.
Nice
Please please please do a video on that rocky fender start please!
Hey i'm here for the gutar bach!!!!
Man. Can I have some of your money???? Lovely collection.... Love the videos too
Hes back
Love your videos dude. Did you ever get another Casino after that you returned?
This is proof that Gibson can make a good guitar. They just don't try.
What are you talking about.? The Guitar sucks. It has no resonance. It sounds brassy. Plywood top? Are you freaking kidding me. Get a life dude
Dude calm down people have preferences and if you don’t like it move on with your day and don’t comment
@@stevescontriano860 The Beatles used it, how could you hate him?
@@arfansthename He probably thinks The Strokes are better.
Do a video on your Fender rocky strat
I hope you come back. Maybe you can redo A Taste Of Honey with this guitar. Most of the please please me album was with the j160e.
Nice! I have an John Lennon Epiphone EJ-160e #0001 R00H. The 1st of 2000 year. God only knows how I got it
Finally, A Gibson J-160E! I would like to see some covers with that Guitar
Wonderful !!! I know how to play the guitar, I'm a Beatle maniac, but I don't have the financial conditions to buy a copy of this one. I would love for someone to be able to give me a Christmas present. Thank you Santa 🙏
Great isn't it, I've got the 70th anniversary had it since 2010 and still amaculte condition,
Will U be able to get a lower action by adjusting the saddle a little bit further down. I have the feeling that the action is high when U played the bar chords. Another video I saw, seemed like a Japanese player, the action of his J160 was lower than yours, I think.
yes!!!!!!!! a j160e yes!!!!!!
I have the same guitar but I changed out the stock saddle to a ceramic saddle for a little more Lennon type ping you hear on the early records. A Hard Days Night and I Should Have Known Better.
Hey man. I just got one of these. Where did you get your ceramic saddle if you don't mind me asking?
@@ThePoppermostTV I got it from my local guitar shop which does repairs. It was just setting in his parts bin. $20.
Nice, I have the J-160E John Lennon 70th Anniversary (Only 500 were made)
Who asked?
So...you're a sucker for overpriced nostalgia gimmicks?
When?
lptomtom Nope, not only is it very rewarding to be owning one of 500 guitars ever made in the world (not to mention im a huge John Lennon fan), its also an investment. Just like gold and silver, the price of collectibles are going to go up.
The Lame Caterpillar last year at around August
Please do a cover of I feel fine with the hofner j 160 e and gretsch 62 reissue
1:07 yes
I got one of these and it looks great. However, I have the feeling that the saddle (plastic?) has a 16" radius and the neck has a 12" radius. A lots of buzzing arise while trying to get down to the lowest action. Furthermore, the saddle is not actually touching the bottom of the bridge when there is a spring metal bar underneath the saddle to control its height. The guitar sounds a bit unpleasant as well.
Speaking of 1962 a good Beatles song to do would be like some other guy
I've got the John Lennon 70th anniversary Gibson J160e I got it in 2010 it's still in mint condition only 500 made
They sound like shit. How much did it cost you ?
@@stevescontriano860 All plywood construction - it's sounds 'affordable' despite the price tag.
hi ForeverFabFour! I am currently choosing between a Les Paul and Telecaster and i’m hoping to sound like the beatles both early and late versions, which one would you recommend the most? Thanks!
That's a hard one... Personally I love Les Pauls, especially vintage reissues however, I might have to side with the telecaster. I think it'll be easier to get that "Beatles tone" out of it. Good luck! All the best, -M
@@ForeverFabFour how are you man
Great guitar how does it sound plugged in?
Try out a set of D'addario EJ20 Strings.
what type of strings do you recommend on your Rosewood telecaster?
Heyyy buddy , i am from uk 🇬🇧, do u know what case candy comes with the gibson acoustics, hummingbird , sj200, j45 for 2024 😊. Love ya video ☺️
I have a custom shop reissue as well, made in 2012. I believe it's a 1968 version since it has multiple rings around the soundhole. The J160E isn't the greatest acoustic guitar in the world with its laminated soundboard and ladder bracing, but yours, mine and those who have similar Js can't help but notice that with the right strings and miked up properly, you can get very close to that Beatles sound. Fun fact: The Gibson J160E was played on every Beatle album.
Peter Fusco It wasn't. The Gibson J-160E wasn't used in Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, White Album, Abbey Road, or Let It Be.
You are mistaken. A Day In The Life Featured the J160E and Andy Babiuk of Beatles Gear also wrote that the Gibson J160E was played on every Beatles album. John played it on the White Album and on Abbey Road, Let It Be etc. His Gibson J160E was played afterwards as well during the Plastic Ono Period and beyond. Google it and you will be enlightened.
You're mistaken. It was most certainly used on every Beatles album including Sgt. Pepper. Listen to A Day In The Life, Lennon used it on that song as well as others. Then go here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gibson_J-160E and here: reverb.com/item/3341005-gibson-j160e-1967-2-color-sunburst to read about it.
Nice guitar. Don’t really have the sound, but nice!
You didn't plug it in? Why not? It's an acoustic electric? That guitar is ladder braced, with a plywood top. It was not even designed to compete with hard woods unplugged.
The beatles mostly used them unplugged straight into mics
@@anom3778 The Please Please Me album was mostly these plugged in!
Where'd you get the left-handed hofner from that's nice
play this boy on that guitar
Oh my days i'm sad that i live in korea and can't get those beautiful vintage guitars with such a great condition in korea first of all i can't afford to buy any of them 😂 as i bought a rickenbacker and martin customshop
How old were you when you started playing guitar because I am 11 and I am buying a guitar tomorrow with my money. Loved this video you are so good at guitar
How is it now?
hey! where'd u get that gorgeous GH poster?
You need a ceramic saddle like Lennnons. I put one on mine for a more authentic tone.
i bought a 66 J45 back in the 70's and always used d'addario strings, i had tried a few others (did you know ernie ball invented the idea of different gauges?) but stuck with d'addario phospher bronze until i bought a martin (OOOX1) and tried martin strings, much better, but, try everything is my advice. maybe you'll get to this but is this a solid top cos origianlly they had laminated tops, they weren't really intended for acoustic use...
Does it have a plywood top like the original or did they use a spruce top?
My Good man I was hoping you could tell me where you purchased your J 160 E I am looking desperately for one myself just like yours a little help and direction would be great
What D’Addario strings did you use for the J-160e?
For a guitar
Plug it in and play I feel fine!
There are only two acoustic guitars with volume or tone nobs and those two guitars are of course the Gibson J160-E(Most famously used by The Beatles) and a Martin D-18E(Most famously used by Kurt Cobain at MTV Unplugged '93)

Observando o que eu nunca vou ter!
What gauge strings do you use
We need another video
Nice! I have the cheaper epiphone version it's nice as well. 👍🏻😃🇦🇺✅
Does it have a ceramic saddle? Mine does. You got to have a ceramic saddle to get that j160e ping sound.
Hey foreverfabfour, what type of strings did you use for the Gibson? Can you please tell me the name of the strings.
Wanted to point out - and perhaps you know this - that the 'Abbey Road' cover photo you have at 1.14 is actually a photoshopped version of the cover in which the Zebra Crossing's 'stripes' have been altered.
What gage and make are the strings you are using for J-160E

The very 1st Acoustic-Electric Guitar was the ES-150 & it's an Archtop Acoustic-Electric.
You should try to get a 1964 Gibson SG
