The Martins have so much more depth, just beautiful
Uh... the 'F' hole gets no mention?!!
The pick guard matches your shirt.
Circa 1979, I worked with Geoff Johnson for a few years. Geoff had come out of retirement. We worked together at 'Calder Music', Midcalder, Scotland, mostly repairing amps and selling amps, musical equipment, etc., plus repairing amplification for the Rolling Stones, etc. Geoff worked during WW2 on RADAR. After that conflict, he focused on Medical Equipment. Later, he helped design VOX amplifiers et al. (Much more information available online.) I am proud to say I knew that man (and his wife, Freda Olive, who he called Flying Officer Johnson). Geoff's autograph book is replete with Jimi Hendrix et al. Much more information available upon request. Alternatively: Search YT, etc. Rab 👋🏻 💚💚
It seems quite obvious that the 'fluffy' ends of the strings would *dampen* the resonance when put over the bridge (if not 'cleansed' beforehand). Or am I missing something? Always *Clean Wire Wound Strings* for me. Twangy and in Front. (These strings provide brighter sound and longer life.) R 👋🏻
During my time playing bass with Scottish-based 'Blues 'n' Trouble' (late 1970s to early 1980s) I used *Rotosound Wire Wound Medium gauge strings.* I could find no fault, playing my Japanese Sakia Jazz Bass copy through a 50 watt RMS Selmer Treble 'n' Bass amp and (self-constructed) Celestion-loaded 4 x 80 watt RMS ex-Marshall cabinet - before delivery to PA stuff! Sound/response et al. was beyond excellent. *Sound Over Money Outlay.* Stay free. Rab 🔊 🍻😎 🔊
I spend money on equipment that makes money. It's not the price - it's "How much can THIS guitar make ME?" A creatively-inspiring acoustic might, but I've got those already, and those have made far more money. And will in the future. This is only a show-piece - a stage-piece, something that could be stolen.
I wish more demo's would choose Neil Young's TELL ME WHY from his AFTER THE GOLD RUSH album because it features some great growls on the bass E string. I don't really consider Jumbo's or Dreadnough's to be singularly defined by treble-chords - these are BIG bodies that should offer great bass tones. A sliding, walking bass line for example...
Hi mate! How did you gloss up yhis guitar? Looks you did a REALLY good job!
Thank you! I just used some buffing compound and a drill/buffing wheel. I’ll be posting a video in the next week or so going over how I did it!
@@guitargearconnection Ok, looking forward to it! Don't want to be rude, but gotta say installing these 280 gram Grovers with a high shaft was a big mistake. The original tuning machines are great, but most importantly they're lightweight (~130 grams) and have very shorts shafts, maximizing string break angle and improving string-nut contact. Having a lighter headstock makes a guitar more comfortable AND improves its tone noticeably.
@@guitargearconnection Bryan is a very popular guitar tech and talks about that point a lot. czcams.com/video/K-_MSBGCC-g/video.htmlsi=QI7i-gIBygW7D7lA
@LegsON I fully agree! I never followed George’s J-200 so I assumed he had vintage double ring Klusons which was my goal to get. But when I realized he had the Grover’s, I had to do it! I’m in it to get close to their stuff, even if the mod might be something I’m not the biggest fan of.
@@guitargearconnection I see, I see. I guess you missed my comment on the other video, so I'll repeat it here. You showed interest in SIGMA J-200 copies, and I have reviews of their solid top and all-solid models on my channel. There's no sense in buying SIGMA now that this Epiphone model exists, they're MUCH worse tonally, though much more comfortable and beautiful.
Absolutely fantastic have a wonderful day Paul also rickenbacker makes awesome guitars ❤😊
Thanks, you too!
I'm not seeing it in person, but I think that finish is fine.
Do you like Vox amps?
Amazing gear
Beautiful job on the finish! It is so beautiful looking! Great sound too!
Thanks Perry!
Hello, good review. I am very interested to see how the guitar will be after being polished (are you going to make a video ? would be great). IThis model interests me and I would like to do the same thing. That's the only point that made me not buy it
Thank you! And yes hopefully this weekend I can try making a quick video on it fully polished. It looks so much better now!
@@guitargearconnection Can't wait to see this. Thank you 😀
What strings did John use on these?
Gibson Sonomatic Roundwounds on the 325c58 Rickenbacker Factory Flatwounds on the 325c64, although they eventually were replaced with roundwounds over the years.
Wow, I genuinely thought that they made the bodies the exact same, then just put an F hole and finished the rose Morrison in the fire glow
Interesting! I never thought there would be a difference.
For a 200 it's a bit too trebly with not enough bass...but for the moolah not bad...
You have a bit more than me I’ve got a Lennon Epiphone acoustic and a couple of AC30s and a couple of strats George played a Maton electric once when his Gretsch was getting repaired or something
Nice!!!!
Ej160e 2023 took me by surprise! 👌🏼😮👍🏼
It really did sound great recorded. In person, it definitely sounded different lol
Daddarios all the way! That wound 3rd makes a huge difference.
Absolutely fantastic have a wonderful day Paul ❤😊
Thank you! And I hope you have a fantastic day too
La guitarra que los pobres necesitabamos 😅 buena estrategia de gibson para competir contra aliexpress
Martin better
It’s the little things we want to know strings , but the golden egg is how the boys learned there chords . Because you note they all play the same ones
I’d say in this test the D’Addario’s sound better for some reason. Great job again Paul! If you wouldn’t mind, could you do For You Blue next?
Ok! I’ll try that song next on my next round of tests
Have you given it a new finish?
I did! It came out really nice buffed out. I’ll try making a little video on it
I always use D’Addario. I’ve had the best results with them. If you check out my videos with an acoustic guitar, it’s the same strings you have in your video. I’m sure the Martins are good, though.
How about Martin Kovar Luxe?
2023 Epi and 2001 Gibson sound marvelous ❤ that 67’ Gibson also sounds lovely
Martin Retros sound better
How much would that guitar be?
$1499
Absolutely gorgeous have a wonderful weekend Paul ❤😊
Nice collection! You need to get a 'Rocky"!! I have 12 Beatle guitars in my collection. What is really nice about it is I have all their original first guitars, which is pretty hard to assemble!
Thanks! I really wanted the recent run of MIM Rocky’s but they are just too dang expensive. One day I’ll pick on up!
@@guitargearconnection I did my own. Which was really fun to do the research on it! It came out great!
Daddario sounds more modern. I’d go with the Martin
In my opinion the Martin retro strings sound better. Great playing Paul!
Thank you!
Yes
Yep, Martin
If you’re going by the theory that they used factory strings on the Ric’s because of the warning, do you think John would’ve switched the strings on his ‘58 to factory ones, or do you think he wouldn’t’ve cared (thinking that since he’s been using sonomatics for this long that it’s probably fine)? There are studio photos showing it in late 1964 so he was still using it by that point.
I think he stayed Sonomatics/round wounds for the 58’. But at same time he cares the least I would say about his strings so he prob had a mixture of everything on it! Which is what Ron D. Mentions when he worked on it.
I actually prefer the nylon saddles ... takes out some of the bright brittleness. And I would say, if you wanted a REAL bridge upgrade, go to Callaham Guitars and buy one of his solid steel bridges made out of a block of cold rolled steel ... the sound just jumps off the guitar with those. Unfortunately, he no longer makes them and no one else has had sense enough to fill the gap. The standard and most copies of the ABR-1 is made of soft, mushy zinc which dampens the vibrations. Nice guitar. Wow.
Probably both like you said. But most say just the one fell off the car that night. If I lived around there now I would try to find the spot, maybe after 60 years, just maybe you might find some left over parts still there.
У меня есть такой плакат!, Beatles, где Джон Леннон играет на простой гитаре, начало музыки и развитие музыкальных инструментов,
I wonder what they each sound like plugged in
I have a video out comparing all the different ones electrically and acoustically!
Excellent video and great information about the gibson J160e Guitar Gear Connection, in 1994 I was in L.A. in a musical instrument store and I bought a gibson J160e that has a 100 year seal for the celebration of the beginning of the GIBSON company, since I was a child I wanted to have one but in my country they did not sell them and next November 25, 2024 I will turn 30 years old With this beautiful instrument I already subscribed and liked it, receive greetings from Guadalajara Jalisco México.
Great Beatles Guitar Collection, I noticed all of the vox amps behind you and I have a question that maybe you could help with. I currently own and UL 760 speaker Cabinet with 2 -10" and 2-12" speakers. I play through my Vox AD120VTH 175 W Amp. I'm looking for a trolley to make the amp complete. Do you have any contacts with manufacturers that can make or sell me a trolley for my Amp & Cabinet. Thanks for your time and consideration, Paul Tremblay Sr. Summerfield, FL 34491
No unfortunately I do not know of anyone making stands at the moment!
Well done great video great choice of songs
Thank you!!!🙏
I refuse to believe that wasn't the original at 10:47. Mind blowing.
I received a scam saying I won one .what a let down.
Ugh that’s horrible! I see guitar scams all the time!
That performance of Julia was spectacular
Thank you 🙏!!!!
I saved up and bought a gibson sj-200. I was on a wait list for 2 years and sadly it’s not my favorite guitar. It plays good enough and sounds fine but for 5k I want my butt to pucker when I play it lol. I have to say that J-45s are my favorite gibson acoustic. If I could trade the j-200 an EJ-160 I would
A great guitar got a great home 🎶👍Congratulations!
Thanks a lot!
What a fantastic video have a wonderful day Paul also congratulations ❤😊
