  • My Echo SRM 225 started leaking gas from the air filter last year. The unit only leaks gas when turned upside down or sideways. This video will show you how to repair this issue by replacing the carburetor.

Thanks Bro - You saved me from buying new to replace my 10-15 yr old trimmer! Runs like a top again.

Great video. My lines were actually a little short. I have them stretched tight up to the middle of the barb - hope they hold. The yellow line, as you said needs no heating up but the black intake one does. The original fuel filter on mine didn't fit through the hole at the top of the tank so after loosening the grommet plug, I wiggled the fuel line until the filter could be grabbed with a pair of needle nose pliers through the gas cap. Then you just pull the filter off by hand and pull the line back out the hole in the top of the tank. Tip: Heat up the grommet and, like you, use a screwdriver to get it in. Also the vent line and cap should go behind the black metal lip (to protect it) in front of the pull handle.

Absolutely fantastic tutorial on how to solve my exact same circumstance. I will use the link to the carb and company and get to fixin. Much appreciated.

Try cleaning the dirt before you start working on the motor. Makes it so much easier.

My Echo SRM 225 runs like a BEAST for about 15 minutes and then boggs right out... if I let it sit for about 20min I can repeat the process however it always seems to "choke" out. It'll restart immediately but the moment I hit anywhere near half throttle it starts to choke even though it ran perfectly normal up till then... lower mid-range seem to function but the moment you get anywhere near the high end of the throttle it just drowns once it's good and hot
I've replaced the fuel delivery system, cleaned the carburetor, changed the spark plug and kept her topped off with fuel plus of course always kept a nice clean air filter... I build gas RC cars, ride Motor Cross Bikes and have Decades of experience maintaining chainsaws, lawn mowers and all types of gas powered equipment yet I've never seen anything quite like this... I guess the next thing I'm going to try is to completely swap out with a new carburetor?
I bought her new and never had a problem for about 7 years of residential use🤔

I’ve never had luck cleaning carburetors. Many small passages, sensitive parts and diaphragms makes them difficult or impossible to clean and restore. I always use aftermarket carburetors. Cheap and I’ve never had an issue.
I would first check the spark arrestor on the exhaust. See if it’s clogged.
It’s possible you may just need to adjust your fuel mixture but unlikely.
After attempting the first two, I would replace the carb.

@@OldSoulMillennial yeah you have a points ought of just rip it out and replace it rather than trying to fix intricate stuff... I use the same fuel in my chainsaw and like I said it runs great until it gets hot. I just pulled the exhaust manifold out and the screen looks fine

Mine wouldn't start so I installed a new sparkplug and it started strong but would turn off after a couple of seconds. So I replaced the carb with a new one and would run but would turn off unless I kept throttling it but after a while it would turn off completely. So now I've replaced the air filter and the fuel filter and not only does it still turn off after a minute but now it's leaking fuel through the air filter compartment. The air filter was half soaked. Is the air filter salvageable? I soaked it as much as i could with a napkin. This 225 is about a year old. And all the parts i replaced are new. Any idea what may be wrong?

      1 of 4 Things:
      1) Clogged spark arrester
      2) Clogged 'in tank' fuel filter
      3) Carburetor isn't adjusted properly
      4) Bad fuel
The air filter should dry out and be ok. If you suspect that the air filter is restricting air, try running it without the air filter for a few minutes.

Any idea why my air flow line off the grommet (the 3rd line that does not attach to the carb) would be leaking fuel and making a slight hissing noise). There must be some blockage somewhere right causing it to back up somehow. Thoughts?? Thx!! Jon
