Fixing the Faulty Bambu A1 3D Printer

- While we loved using the Bambu Lab A1 3D printer when we reviewed it last year, the printer has been out of service since Bambu Lab recalled every single A1 unit due to the heatbed cable at risk for damage. And with the replacement heatbed just arrived, let's end this week replacing it on the A1 and get this printer back into action.

Thanks for watching!
#3dprinting - Věda a technologie
One very important step for those of us who bought printers is to follow Bambu's instructions and take the required pictures before putting the covers on so we can get our gift certificates. I mention this just in case someone only watches your video to do the repair.
Bambu Lab took 2 weeks to review the refit photos I sent them.
@@lewworthem8483maybe request volumes are fluctuating. I did it a couple weeks ago. They requested photos of inside i didn't notice the instructions asked for, had to reopen to take them. Was fully solved within the day.
Only 2 days in total between receiving, doing the install and, having the rma ticket validated.
@@lewworthem8483 Okay.
And a heatbed calibration!
Meanwhile I have yet to even get a shipping notification for my replacement
Did this several weeks ago, very straight forward process. Took photo's sent to Bambu got my $120 credit and went crazy buying free Filament! Good times!
I used my credit to buy the AMS Lite unit for like $95 bux.
Norm really nailed it with review warnings. "Day 1" reviews are little more than first impressions-valuable but not the whole story. What I like to see are "End of warranty" reviews-how it works once the company no longer has to support it, say 1-3 years.
The christmas music is a nice touch.
Missed the opportunity to use a slow remix of "Fire starter"
A couple of months to early according to me :D
Tinkering with the tool you bought to tinker with tools for other tools is the ultimate recursion of the home 3D printing enthusiast community.
We done. Glad I jumped right to the x1c. Would love to see Adam incorporate more 3D printing into his processes.
Waiting for my replacement to come in... So cool to see Tested taking the time to do a video like this that is so very specifically relevant to something I will be doing soon. Thanks Norm!
Seeing how well the cables are routed and the overall good design inside (like the earth connectors being symmetrical and smart) makes me feel like these guys have great attention to detail. I've got an X1C but not broken it open.
just bought an A1 week before last, and got it in on the 9th, loving this thing. so glad they've finally got a fix out, and have these units up for sale again.
Thank you for that! Quite often how-to videos skip over some steps. That was perfect.
Just fixed mine a week or two ago, works FANTASTIC and I've been loving it.
I always feel like Adam is the superstar and Norm is like me. Norm connects really well to us through the camera and I hope we get to see more Norm builds along with Kate Sabacher. Also more Fon Davis too. I really enjoy when 'guest stars' appear on Adam's channel to break up his videos. Norm you are always the best. Thank you for your posts.
Finally something other then q&as. Only took 5 years
Yeah, remember when the did cool projects, it has been a couple years since the put some effort into a video.
Love this! Nice walk through guys!
Love you guys @Tested!!!
If this was a Creality product, they'd wait 8 months to release another product with the fix pre-installed, that they'd put next to 14 other of the same but slightly different product with one upgrade and a different number to describe each; then it'd become obvious their fix wasn't suitable and you need X product from X aftermarket manufacturer to actually solve the problem.
Meanwhile Creality fanboys loooove to bring this recall up, because basically everyone still fiddling with belts and rollers, compiling firmware and messing with something weekly to attain consistent prints absolutely hates these things are easy to use, and work consistently with minimum work. Meanwhile bedslinger heater cables have been a constant issue for everyone over the years.
They're awesome products, Bambu did all this absolutely right and it's such a breath of fresh air in the consumer and hobby 3d printing space.
Like the design, it's field serviceable.
I love the fixing my Bambu A1 in a Jazz Cafe ASMR
Great work norm sir 👏
I returned mine originally, but bought another as soon as they went on sale.
Didn’t plan on buying it again, but it ends up being more economical than a 3.5 upgrade and mmu for my existing printer.
The entire Demerit badge bundle should be called "The all SNAFU and FUBAR bundle". 😂
Owners of Bambu A1 have it good when it comes to the heatbed. It's easy to disassemble from top down screws but many cheaper designs went from bottom up approach and it's a total nightmare!
Darn, I was disappointed to learn that the tiny A1 is only a phone charger, not a functional printer...
I am waiting for mine too. One of the bad issues with Bambu Lab has been communication since they sent a message back in April that it would be shipping soon but nothing since then.
Well when it ships, they'll let you know? Do they need to update you daily?
In true Bambulabs style, the fix was about five minutes and it has worked without fault since.
I would definitely replace it with a bulkhead connector. I hate when companies manufacture things this way.
Nice 🎉
I'm still waiting on receiving the new heat bed.
First time I've seen a vid within the first min
That's called attention seeking
@@mikeuk666 and that’s called being a nob.
All badges in one set should be called, "Call it a day" If all that happens in one day, you should call it a day and go home!
I was getting Mr. Roger's/Charles Schulz vibes with the jazzy piano background music lol.
Dude, after the Ashoka, you really need to initiate an RC Razor Crest build.
Nice video-small feedback.
Perhaps remove the background music during repair?
do a diresta style audio (no music)
Good video. The background piano Christmas song is distracting in May.
I have replaced my heatbed and took the appropriate photos andsent them into Bambu over 2 weeks ago and still have heard nothing at all.
holy cable routing batman
The new cable is not well designed. Better strain relief is a good step in the right direction but still localizes wear. Drag chains exist for a reason. They keep cables in place and distribute wear along the cable.
🤩🤩🤩
All 24 demerit badges? that should be called the cluster f**k 😵
I got the AMS with my credit
And still no cable chain which is an industry standard, it was written in the stars that this would become a problem.
So print a cable chain and put it on there.
@@freighter1097 For long term reliability it"s the only acceptable solution on a bedslinger. The problem is that bending a cable at the same point over and over will break strands of wire which in turn increase resistance and result in overheating and eventually fire.
Who cares about the A1? We want to see that "biggest 3D printer ever" we saw you working on the the background a few weeks ago :-).
Full Demerits
Demerit Tested Badge box
Sir. In this world we do not pull the cables in order to disconnect a connector. That way lies either immediate or future agony.
So this has the potential be a fire hazard?
What was your first clue?
I hope you took your photos or you won't be getting any compensation ;)
Not faulty, but a design flaw
I hate that this practice of paying to alpha/beta test video games and it is making its way further and further into consumer electronics. Don't get me wrong it's great to address issues with a product, i just feel like we are being offered far less polish in our products
My Prusa hasnt failed. 5 years now.
Neither has my Creality. Would you like a cookie?
Tested / Adam Savage promoted the crap out of these printers in return for all the free product they received. This is the same flaw my Anet A8 had in 2017. That's pretty freakin' sad that Bambu Labs couldn't do better.
The all-badge bundle should be called: Demeritus Maximus
Junk chinese crap. Has the same build quality and QC of an ender 3.
buy something else then, no one is forcing you.
Norm, you really need to visit an optometrist and have your specs tweaked to fit better. As a specs wearer it pisses me off seeing someone constantly pushing them back into position. Especially on video. Good fitting specs matter, Norm.
Love this printer, but Still waiting on the replacement part 😢
Can't wait to get it running again.
