Hey everybody - quick update on the dash camera functionality. This from BYD:
"The 360 degree camera button is located on the BYD SEALION 6 steering wheel.
The 360 degree camera functionality is also accessible in the BYD SEALION 6 Infotainment system.
How to locate the 360 degree camera functionality in the Infotainment system: select the Vehicle icon, select ADAS, select Parking Assist, Select Panoramic Images, and the view of the 360 degree camera appears.
In relation to the dashcam, there is a space behind the rearview mirror in which the dashcam can be installed separately in the BYD SEALION 6."

We've owned a BYD Atto 3 for 12 months now and it's been absolutely flawless!! No rattles, creaks, vibrations, nothing. It still drives like it's brand new. No signs of any battery degradation either! Seats still look brand new too. I definitely highly recommend BYD! I know of people who own the Seal and Dolphin and they love them too. They are very well made cars.

I've owned a Seal for a few months now and I am still amazed by how good the car is. The assist you tried to open/close windows etc is really good. It even does things like 'turn the drivers seat heating on' or 'open the drivers window to 50%'. This is especially handy for functions that are burried in menus that are hard to navigate to while driving.
Paul pointed the camera out early in the video, it looks like it has the same issue the Seal had. The camera wasn't installed but all the connections are there, hidden behind the plastic shroud. I got an original BYD camera from AliExpress and isntalled it. Once you reset the infortainment system, the software for the camera is added to the menu.

    Hi All,
We were the first one to get our hands on the selion6 premium model in Australia and we absolutely love it.
I have 1 x Toyota Rav 4 Cruze 2023 model and I can tell you with confidence that BYD Sealion 6 is a lot better car than Toyota RAV 4
There are lots of things that we love about this care
    1. Price - big bang for your buck, especially when you compare with other brands such as Kia , Toyota and Haval
    2. Quality is much better, this car has lots more to offer
    3. Features- all latest technology
    4. Fuel economy- 1000-1100 kms, we charge twice a week and 1 full tank last us 2.5 weeks.
100% battery charge takes up to 5 hours
5 . Suspension- in my opinion, 40% better than RAV4
    6. Quieter on road. Unlike other cars like Kia, RAV 4. Sealion 6 is very quiet on road
    7. Spacious- plenty of space of in front row and the 2nd row
I highly recommend to buy this car.
    Good luck !!

There wasn’t a dash cam installed, Atto has one! Ali express sells them, it is easily installed and works fine.

Nice review thanks. I've owned an Atto 3 for coming up 2 years now and covered 52,000km. No detectable battery degradation, no rattles or breakages and the upholstery is still as-new. I'm still on the original much-maligned Batman tyres and have no quibbles with them. Reviewers criticise the Atto 3's charging speed but what they don't seem to see the fact that it will maintain a 60-odd kWh charge rate right up into the mid 90% which makes the charging pretty quick overall. After two years it's still a delightful car to drive and is popular with passengers. Any complaints ? Just one - the bongs ! My understanding is that ANCAP ratings demand things that go Bong for lane departure, other vehicles that you might hit and crap like that but I the BYD is worse than for instance my wife's Opel Moka E. Most of them can be turned off but they come back on next time the ignition is cycled. Overall I'm very happy indeed with the purchase and wouldn't hesitate to buy another BYD.

Yeah I have an atto 3 as well 1.5 years.. best car I have ever owned. I have owned many cars BMW, Jeep, Toyota's.. and many more.. I Solar charge when at home and only use fast charger when going away on long trips (highway). Charging on highway is easy I just stop every 2 or 3 hours for toilet break or coffee/snack and top up then for 20min on a fast charger from about 40%.
I have done about 27000km with no issues.. best part is about 24000 has been charged for free on solar.
I can't imagine ever paying for fuel again. Also I think it's worth mentioning I rarely have my ev under 70% charge it's always being topped up when parked in the garage. If you have solar it's a no brainier.. also a tip if you have a home battery you can always get some from that at night. And change your power bill to Amber wholesale rate and charge cheap at night. Sometimes you even get paid to charge 😉

One thing for sure is that hopefully I will be a BYD owner soon.

Hopefully you’ll get some OTA updates like us Seal owners. The bings and bongs drove us nuts! But 5 updates later and they are gone, and other things have improved as well. Digital keys, and much more. Nothing comes close to these great cars especially 390kw of power for $70K. Almost 10k kms since April and not a squeak or rattle. And with the updates things get better and better. Never wanted and EV but the novated leasing of one was just too good to pass up. Throughly impressed. The Koreans need to be worried as do the Europeans, the Americans will never catch up, ever. Look at the Yangwang U9 and the U8. Nothing comes close for the price. Nothing. Good luck with your Atto!

At the price it is pretty incredible, from tech to build quality everything looks rather impressive.
There is so much for the average car user.
Full EV range is sufficient for most entire daily commute while charging a rather small battery. This is also faster charging AND less power requirements at charging point.
There is no range anxiety for longer trip.
What is missing here is a true range test on full tank, full charge at highway speed and normal driving: I don’t it would be far from BYD claim
Finally, at the value for money this is a German car killer.
The German equivalent may devalue by the BYD price just leaving off the floor 😂

  • @Deandzzzzzz
    @Deandzzzzzz Před měsícem +51

Picked up my Sealion 6 premium at the end of June. Over one month of ownership by now.
    Pros:
    - Decent EV range for daily commute. Done 85km pure EV range in real life from 100% battery down to 20%. Figures achieved thru commute to and from work with 6km remaining on Odo. Guess the total EV range of urban driving would be around 91km for the premium model. Great saving on running cost too. Switched to AGL night saver EV plan and it costs me only roughly $1.30 to charge the car every day! I used to spend around $80 on fuel per week!
    - great fuel economy in HEV mode. AWD eats a little more fuel than the base dynamic (FWD) variant but still consumes slightly over 5L/100km around town. A little more on motorway. No range anxiety and charge anxiety for long trips.
    - dual electric motors (AWD) drivetrain delivers VERY punchy acceleration! Fun to drive for a family mid-size SUV!
    - excellent NVH. Very quiet cabin to sit in. You barely hear the engine even when it kicks in under HEV mode. Great comfort for driver as well as passengers!
    - very roomy interior. Always have happy passengers at back seats!
    - generous features like seats heating / ventilation; HUD; voice commands for basically everything you need; 360 degree cameras for maneuvers at tight corners/ parking; regular OTA updates to deliver optimization and new features; physical indicator & wiper stalks (sorry Tesla fan boys 😅)
    Cons:
    - tyres could be better to further reduce the road noise.
    - boot a little undersized for a family SUV
    - suspension is at softer side. Like Paul commented, it's fine as a family SUV but it def feels a little floaty when speed picks up or drive over speed bumps.
    - no seats memory. Would be nicer to have.
    ------------------------
Overall I would rate it 8/10 and have been a happy owner since day one of driving it. 😊

Once they pass the "reliability test", in terms of these cars standing the test of time, there is no stopping them. They can't do no wrong at the moment and most importantly, they listen to their customers! I have a Seal Premium for nearly 6 months now and couldn't be happier. A thorough review as usual. This vehicle fills a nice space where families want electric running around the city, but don’t want the charge planning hassle on a road trip. And at a cheaper price than the Outlander PHEV.
I test drove this in Auckland and liked its comfort. I was disappointed there is no lumbar adjustment on the seats, even in the Premium spec, but did like the driver’s display being in a combing rather than a tablet plonked on the dash like the Seal has. I was impressed by the accuracy of the voice control. Much better than my Model 3. At highway speeds there was a drumming noise that would stop me buying this vehicle. The dealer is investigating whether it is the tires fitted.
A little bit lost in translation when you were doing the lane keeping test. Car displayed “ICC Actived”.

You can forgive a lot of quality for $400+ a fortnight. So a 2 year toe in the water lease, and we will see how it goes when it arrives next month. Three friends now own BYDs and have nothing but positive responses, coming from Camry/Cerato and VW backgrounds, so feeling more confident on the quality question.

The gas savings have been amazing. Electricity here is much cheaper than gas. Build quality and materials are definitely a class above. We compered it to the RAV4 and CX50 - both of those have relatively cheap feeling interiors. Nobody buys these for performance driving. The soft ride is perfect for around town driving and highway cruising - which is what these vehicles are meant for. Passengers have commented on the space and comfort of the rear seats. All in all definitely recommend.

It has a CV transmission. The websites I looked at said it had a "wet clutch" but I suspect its a torque converter.
You would need a torque converter because of course the engine must never run backwards, and a clutch pedal is impractical.
The engine I guess adds power to the output shaft like if you push a record player around to make it go faster.
The electric motors provide acceleration, with the engine running over a small rpm range like a generator or lawnmower engine within its maximum HP range, so it would run cleaner and leaner, most smoke and petrol consumption occuring during acceleration. It'd be weird to drive, with the engine speed not really matching the throttle pedal.

The traffic sign recognition systems in cars don’t work for all types of speed limit signs in Australia, that’s the reason we switch them off. The best system is paying attention and the amount of people I see distracted - especially through construction and school zones is absolutely unacceptable.

@CarExpertAus fully agree mate, reason I've tried to bring attention to the matter, hoped maybe a great platform for the norm may help. In all honesty, it frightens me the way people are driving these days. And every time I'm on the roads for traffic management, we risk pur lives and thats no drama talk, it's real. Anyways enjoy ya eps, thanks

I'd like to think that a question posed in the thumbnail will be answered in the review, but sadly, it wasn't. Overall, I thought the review was quite objective although there were shortcomings. I own one of these and agree that the suspension really does need work, but in my case, the initial bump compliance is awful - the first speed hump I encountered was jarring. I also cancelled my Outlander Exceed Tourer order for one of these without regret; and in no way would I pay almost an extra $40k for a Mazda CX-60. There's places too where in detail the car execution is underdone - like the little tabs to lower the back seats. In other places, the execution is terrific - like no fewer than 3 ways of adjusting the air-con temperature. In short, there's so many pluses to this car that I truly think that Mitsubishi and Mazda ought to be looking over their shoulders and sweating heavily.

With the front and rear electric motors, are they both permanently engaged, or does one (rear, I would guess) only kick in under hard acceleration, traction loss, etc?

We are happy to see the the increase competition in aussie car market, we as consumers definitely benefit from this. By the way, Toyota no more innovations cuz their no.1 market share in Australia, we need more competition.

Try close window without telling which side. If you sit on driving seat. Computer will close your side

Yes it knows where you are sitting. When you turn in seat heating or cooling or adjust temp, it knows what side of the car you are on. Have a Seal Performance.
