You know you are not in the states when you deal with the issues of your boat not being put on the hard when promised. Kudo's to you for getting some financial relief . It is the right thing for them to do!!! Squeaking wheel gets the oil.
Things I love: Jessica’s voice, Georgie, Matt is a mechanical genius, sailing and traveling the world. Not so fond of marinas that charge monthly slip fees and leave our boat in the water, but, like marinas that refund the difference when we get back, and toss in free stands.
I'm glad y'all are back on Elements, and thrilled to see Georgie back home too! That shot of Matt and Georgie is priceless!!! It's easy to see that she missed y'all a BUNCH!!! :-D
If it’s not too late, I would strongly suggest you switch your bottom paint to Hempel’s SilicOne. It’s a silicone based product that is non-ablative and 100% eco friendly. Principal is it’s so slippery, nothing will stick once you start moving again. I have it on my 53 and love. I can assure you after one year in the water, my bottom was almost like new. Just a suggestion I think you could benefit from. Cheers and hope to see you in the Med this summer.
I am glad Georgie forgave you guys for being gone so long, which she clearly indicated by her cat-like indifference (at the end, her pressing her face to Matt's was cute). Looking forward to Elements looking beautiful again. And... hmmm... is Matt's beard getting more... robust?
Welcome home. The marina & jack stand thing sucks, but your now out of the water and prepping for your next adventure that's gotta count for something! Oh and I'm sure Georgie Girl is happy to see both of you.
I know this is old but I’m so glad you did these videos from the Azores. I’m really surprised you didn’t mention Lajes Field Air Force Base right up the road or take any videos of the planes coming in for landing right over the bay. Looking forward to watching you next kit build project. Could you see yourself moving to the Azores someday? Awesome *secret* spot on earth.
Welcome back. Pretty much just fast forwarded through the SE Asia stuff, that stuff is not why I watch you guys. Glad your back home. Excited to see more. Thank you!

It's good to let people know that boat life isn't all fun in the sun, it's a lot of work to get out there and stay out there! The rewards are great, but so is the effort!!! I know!!!
Looks like the bottom was cleaning up fairly easily. Hopefully the new anti fouling will do better. Good to see all three of you back together. Enjoyed this video as usual. The weather there looks terrible I’m sure you can’t wait to leave.
I enjoyed the video, and my cat got a kick out of the part where Matt was petting your cat. My cat went "What a cat????" "Woaaahhhh whoooz dat???" So even your feline audience likes your content!

Wow can't believe its been two years on bottom paint. I remember when you got to that point and it was exciting because you were close to launching time Flys.....
yeah georgie is back, sucks about the marina and everyone screwing you over with the storage incident, hopefully it works out in your favor and you come out ahead at the end. i'm not going to lie, i like watching you two work on the boat, because i learn from it.
Sorry, maybe it's the child in me, but I so giggled when you said "yank off the seacock". @ 23:07 Carry on. Love your videos. Hope to someday do 1/10000th of what you've done the last few years.
The red powder sand you have found on your boat may have come from Sahara desert. That's very commun in Iberia peninsula. It covers cars and roofs too. The colour of this sand is more redish that what you see on the beach. You can find Sahara sand in the Alps! Easy to identify on the snow left in summer.
Classic dog vs cat scenario. Georgie gives you token acknowledgement where a dog would have been all over you for about an hour showing love and affection. Looks to cold there, any chance of a few more weeks in the sunshine somewhere? Welcome home.

5:27 You need a foam cover for your mic so the wind noise does not drown out your voice. Outside of that, your voice is very soft so you need to speak more forcefully.
We won't lie, a good hardware store near here would have been ideal (they have a nice one in Sao Miguel)......but otherwise...yes, it's a perfect spot! 😃
Glad to see you back at the boat. I look forward to seeing your upcoming sailing plans. It will be interesting to compare your eventual Icelandic sojourn with that of Patrick Laine, who is there now (May 2019) in O degrees C and looks as if he is skedaddling around Iceland and now heading south toward warmer weather.
We're actually not headed toward Iceland....can't get the cat in there (or it would be very hard to do). Our 2019 cruising plans include Ireland, Scotland, Norway, and England. 😃

I HAVE ALSO DONE THIS WITH A VERY COARSE [ WET TYPE SANDPAPER ] ,, SAY 20-40 GRIT IN A BLOCK MAKING WIDE SWEEPS , THIS ALSO WORKS VERY WELL IN SOME CASES ,, RENTING THE PRESSURE WASHER FROM SOMEONE BESIDES MARINA AND ADDING A HOPPER TO IT FOR GRIT IS MY FAVORITE == CHECK [ THIS OLD BOAT ] FOR HOW=TO .
Ahhh ship yards, the same everywhere in the world, they are worse than the mafia, "just kidding Guido!" Hey at least no blisters to deal with, that thru hull sounds scary, glad you yanked it.
The coats we're wearing here are from Code Zero Sportswear, we got them just before we left Florida and wear them all the time. The coats we got from my parents were foul weather gear from Mustang Survival, and you'll see a little cameo of one in the next episode. 😉
We left it on one of the solar panels to keep it in float mode while we were gone. The wind generator was tied off to prevent generating power, but it still rotates into the wind. Matt
Another great video. I really like this one because it shows that sailing and your lifestyle isn't all sunshine and sea shells. There is a LOT of hard work that goes into this. Kudos to Matt for always staying even-keeled. Seriously, does nothing phase him? Setbacks and projects that would raise my blood pressure is just no big deal for him. All that said, this stuff looks expensive. From the slip fees to having a place for you both to stay while you make the repairs...it all adds up. Care to share some expense numbers? Just curious.

Matt also needed to get the yard to remove the prop and it was hard to get them to actually come out to do the job. Plus being in the storage yard is half the cost of a slip, so we were in no rush, haha.
Can't help it, I find any lifting haulout scary everytimes, the more so even with a temporarily removed forestay. Boat is supposed to be slipped the ancient way, isn't she?.
I guess we've never given an ounce of worry to haulouts. After living in a boatyard for 3 years and seeing hundreds performed and never any incidents....I guess we assume the odds of anything going wrong are pretty low. 🙂
@@MJSailing Well, that's really a good thing for You.
