    The 2000E is one awesome product. It has tiny particles in it that act as shingles the more layers you put on. When my paint needs redone, I find the 2000e is still like new where exposed. 10 yrs later all still good

    You nailed it. Was worried when you did the open dodger. You should consider still doing that on your next refit. You could struggle going to cold and wind with that plastic but you probably already know that. Good news is you can still use that top if you do.

    Matt, on aluminum aircraft we use a chromate conversion coating between the bare aluminum and the primer. Most commonly known as Alodine. Its also an adhesion promoter for the primer as well. It adds another layer of protection to the paint system. its consistency of water and goes on by wiping. Simple step but can make a big difference in performance. It changes the very surface layer of the aluminum and protects against oxidation. Almost all paint and primer systems do allow some moisture/vapor to make it thru eventually. Having that thin chromate conversion layer can prevent oxidation, bubbles and paint adhesion failure between the aluminum and the primer. it also works great where you have to electrically bond to the aluminum hull. Alodined aluminum still conducts electricity so you still have some protection when you ground to the hull. You still need to add sealant to the whole thing after connecting to keep out water... but it can help a lot to prevent corrosion under a ground wire. Alodine is also known as Iridite or Bonderite or Alumiprep

    If you ever need plastic for patterning again, you can use 6 ml vapour barrier which you can probably purchase at any building supply store. It can be pulled tight for the pattern yet won't stretch. Also, might I suggest using Sunbrella Bias Binding to finish your zippers, sewn along the edges for strength and then bind the edges of your strata glass and sew the zippers on the inside of the bound edge. That will create the same effect and is very good at keeping the water out of the zippered area. The zipper bound will tuck up tight to the bound edge of the glass and force the connected glass together tight. If you want a real nice finish, then sew a flat piece of binding on the outside edge of the glass first and then bind the edge. Don't be afraid to pull the pattern tight...then when you put the window on, just start the zipper, fasten the window, (If done right it will seem that the window is almost too small) but then when you finish zipping up the window it will tighten everything up. Don't ever have zippers close at the same point either because that will lead to a greater chance of pulling open and more chance of leaking. Just all suggestions. Always enjoy your videos.

      On our last boat we got 3.5 years between bottom paint. We knew we wouldn't get the same with paint designed for aluminum boats, but the paint we used last time started growing grass along the boot stripe within a few weeks of launching. It did hold off hard growth for a long time (2 years), so that is a plus, but for scum, it was terrible.

  • @MrFritzzz666

    No, you did not need to shave your beard.
    If your mask fits: your beard will not leak

    • @CGT80
      @CGT80 Před 5 lety +2

      The odds are high that you will have leaks, if you don't shave. Hair creates gaps between the respirator and face, and allows particles in. A full face respirator has higher protection than a half mask. If it isn't a big deal to a person to shave, then that is best. The dust he is creating can be quite small as well. It depends on how toxic the contaminate is and how much risk you are willing to take. Yes, I have used full and half masks with a goatee and accepted the reduced amount of protection, based on the amount of time I would be exposed and the type of exposure. I do disagree with people who say a respirator has no benefit if you don't shave. A respirator will provide more protection than a dust mask and the user can easily notice there is less irritation than without protection or using just a dust mask.
      An asbestos job I was on, required full face protection (based on lab tests on samples from the site). The risk was too high, it was a government job, and the job could have been up to 5 weeks long. Asbestos particles are smaller than the width of a human hair. There are a couple different tests to check the fit. Covering the filters and inhaling should create a suction on the mask, until you move your hands or stop breathing in. There is a chemical that smells like bananas that should not be detected if waved around the person, while they use a filter that will handle that chemical, and the other one is an irritating smoke that will make you cough if any leaks in.

      The Trisalu is one of a series of French designed centerboarders which are very well thought of for blue water use, and should not be confused with the lightweight trailerables you are probably more familiar with. She is very well suited for the type of high latitude sailing Matt and Jessica have in mind.
      If I thought I would be in a position to afford her, I would be first in line to buy Elements once they are done with her. I live in southern Alaska and the Trisalu would be nearly ideal for our waters.
