  • Ben Nevis is a West Highland distillery situated in Fort William, and one of a very few with a totally unique (at least in Tim's opinion) flavour profile. Very sherry influenced, with conspicuous sulfur and dark fruitiness, along with just a slightly Springbank-esque funk. It's a whisky made in an old fashioned style that's now nearly extinct.

    Really enjoyed this review. I just got myself a bottle of this stuff after quite a long time of searching.

    Great review guys....I really really enjoyed this for a 10 yr old whisky....very old school tasting!

    Water really does bring out some more of the peat element in this. Good catch! The sulfur was a bit overwhelming when first opened, but has settled and let the fruit come out a third of the way down this bottle. Very interesting. Keep up the good work!

    Well, darn...something else for the hunt. Not readily available around me. I love the weird ones, so you’ve pricked my interest. Thanks.

      Once commonly available, this is getting harder and harder to find. So good luck on the search.

    Just uncorked my first bottle of Ben Nevis 10. Instantly loved the smell. And the taste and finish were evenly good. I never understood why people made a fuzz about this whole sulfur thing in whisky. But if Ben Nevis 10 epitomizes sulfury then I think I am going to explore more sulfury malts. :-)

    I found one of the old bottlings online for a decent price last year... Had I only known at the time what I was buying, I would've bought 3. These seem extinct now.
    Ben nevis is the distillery I'm most tempted to splurge to buy older IB versions of... I think because it's very interesting and also very rare to find any BN anywhere nowadays.

    This is a whisky "experts" love to kick and yet it remains relevant. Go figure. Hard to find an ob in my part of the world but I've had an independent bottle or two. As you note: unique and oddly enjoyable. Interest review. Thanks guys.

    Excellent review gents. Great description of a curious whisky. I wonder how much of this might end up in Japanese whisky since they have been known to import scotch, blend and bottle it, and call it Japanese whisky.

    Hey man, on another video (I think it was Abunadh or Edradour) I commented/asked about whether you could recommend a whisky that displays notes of "sulfury sherry" and you recommended Ben Nevis 10. I finally got around to snagging a bottle and while it doesn't taste outright sulfurous to me (I seem to be less sensitive to these notes), it is a really lovely and characterful whisky. Definitely a good recommendation.

    Appreciate your thoughts and take on this btl., gents-- I'm thinking about picking up the Floral and Fauna version 💭 Thoughts on this dram ?

      We've not tried the Flora & Fauna bottling, but Ben Nevis is a very distinctive and individual whisky, so it probably won't be too different I character to this 10 year old.

    Nice one guys. I wouldn't mind giving it a go but it's not easily found in the U.K. I recently picked up a spectacularly good value single cask Ben Nevis 20 year old cask strength bottled by The Exclusive Malts . I need to finish some bottles before opening it but really looking forward to that one.

      I didn't believe this would be hard to find in the UK, but checking a couple of online stores there it seems that there is indeed a supply issue. Plenty of listings for it, but all out of stock. Perhaps it's gained popularity somewhere recently and they're still catching up.

    I really enjoy your reviews. Not heard of this one. Looks right up my alley. I love Longrow so if it's anything like that I'll love it.

    • @TheSingleMaltReview
      @TheSingleMaltReview  Před 6 lety

      Longrow is a fair sight more peaty than this one. It's closer to Hazelburn (Sprinbank's milder, less peated whisky)

    • @garyrobinson8665
      @garyrobinson8665 Před 6 lety

      The Single Malt Review I have only tried the Longrow which is delicious I know it's meant to be heavily peated but compared to Ardbeg it's nothing. I've had my eye on the hazelburn for quite a while too. This is very cheap here in the uk.

    Driven by Ben Nevis twice, next time I will stop for a visit. Sounds like an interesting whisky. Either love or hate it.
