I bought a bottle of 12 yr Glenfiddich (when the bottles were triangles and the containers were round) back in 1976 and was saving it for my unplanned "future" wedding. Somewhere in the 80's, my alcoholic stepmother found it in a box of stored stuff and drank it like cheap beer, probably not even slowing down enough to taste it and totally clueless as to what she was chugging. I still imagine what it must have tasted like. đą
The one they sell now should be very consistent to what they sold back then.
Out of cask is not change test alot as it is in.
Here in Brazil we have a saying that says something like :"Save with hunger, comes another and devourers it"
Well that sucks..
I would have hid somewhere safeđ
The 12 was my first scotch bottle. Never disappointed
Same. A graduation gift from my brothers.
Thanks so much guys. I always wondered why my beloved 15 yr was so different compared to the 12, 14, and 18 year versions. Blindly tasting and preferring the 15, then the 18, then the 12 and finally the 14 was a mystery. I have had both Select and Reserve. If you can find the reserve, buy it. The select might as well be the basic 12.
25y ago I was working in London on a building site with a mate , and was staying in a very expensive hotel , due to being on expenses, I ordered a glenfidy n lemonade , in the very expensive hotel bar, and I had never tasted such a smooth , flavoured , lovely whiskey, the lemonade was in small bottles of shweeeps, I intended on just having one before bed, but we stayed there till the early hours, just savouring the drink, excellent,
Love the story and whisky that makes memories!
Thanks for tip, what Exactly do you mean by lemonade from Shweeeps?
My little twins are a product of a 15 year old Glenfiddich. Great video matesđ
I only tried the 12 and Iâm really satisfied with it. The apple note is just lushing and the finish is good enough for me not to thing of anything better. Ignorant is bliss!
another video said the fruit profile of their 12 year is pear huh hmm
@@ChaseHub smelling and tasting is purely objective of course
The apple note is distinctive and glorious!
The 15 is my favourite in terms of 'bang for your buck'. If the 18 was higher ABV, even 43%, it would push the 15 close. Glenfiddich is one of the distilleries that still uses direct fired stills along with Macallan, Glenfarclas and Springbank that I know of. They say that this process gives more depth of flavour and complexity. I think if Glenfiddich presented their whisky at a higher ABV and without chill filtration and colouring it would be a thing of beauty. Great show guys.
Love my 18 year!!! Had 25 and 50 year in Dubai. Truly an experience.
Wow this video really took off 80k views! I hadn't checked your subscriber count for a few months and was thinking it 10k or so but dang 25k+ congrats fellas
Sweet, I was able to find the select cask on a local retailer, along with a lot of the special editions!
Thanks for all the info
I've seen the Fire and Cane on the shelf at my local and shied away from it, but your description makes me want to at least try it. Thanks
Very nice video! Always wanted to try but never knew where to start now i do
Great! Video fellas... love these type of videos.
May I suggest The Dalmore or Aberlour next? Maybe Glenlivet?
i always keep a bottle of the 14 year old bourbon barrel finish because almost all my friends are bourbon or irish wiskeey drinkers so the glenfiddich 14 is a nice dram to start introducing scotch to your friends while also still being able to enjoy it yourself. If i had to drink glen 14 everyday i would not be upset its a beautiful light spirt with alot of hints of pears and honey for me
Does the 14 still have the strong pear and green apple (kinda sour) smell and taste that the 12 has? I love that sweet green apple Jolly rancher nose that the 12 has. My local Costco has the 14 bourbon barrel and I am tempted to get it if so lol
Great Video once again. Good to see some more experienced Whiskydrinkers who appreciate Glenfiddich.
Though you have missed a bottle in the Cask Collection Range. ItÂŽs called Vintage Cask and is actually a peated Glenfiddich. I can tell you: ItÂŽs very delicous!! And just so different from the rest of the range.
Thanks for the heads up on that one. I will keep an eye out for it. Cheers
-Shawn
Just bought a bottle of Reserve Cask, I like it alot! Also have a original twelve on the shelf, ofc.
There was actually a third "Age of Discovery", a red wine finish.
I do have the AoD Madeira, and it is indeed a nice dram.
Oh god that sounds amazing
Thanks guys, enjoyed your effort
Awesome comprehensive overview of the entire range guys. I have two of those 19 yo age of discovery (red wine cask, and Madeira cask). Both are really good, especially the Madeira. Would be nice if the abv were a tad higher. Also, the 14 yo bourbon cask is definitely available in Ontario, Canada. It is generally highly regarded. Cheers gents đ„đšđŠđșđČ
There is a travel retail Glenfiddich Single Malt 15 Year Old Distillery Edition 1 L 51% abv. I have yet to uncork the bottle. Thanks guys for sharing your scotch journey.
I would love to get my hands on one of those. Cheers.
Love these full line up videos!
More to come! ~Mark
Project XX is my favourite, cinnamon and vanilla notes make it smell and taste like whiskey heaven, simply love it!
The 14 year is also easily found in Canada! Itâs one of my favourites.
That is true đđ„ it's one of my favorites too! Their other 14 year, in the orange box, is really nice as well.
Itâs over $90 in Canada 5:39 5:41
One of my favourites love all their ranges
Ive got the 14 and 15 on my shelf. A good daily drinker from Speyside. well done fellas
Iâve been there .in one word âMagnificentâ
Picked up 18 for 55 eur, about a price of Laga 16. It's really nothing to be amazed about, yet can't find anything to complain about either. This bottle serves its original purpose perfectly. I get it, cask strength is the goal, but when you just wanna take a break from sherry bombs, you can't go wrong with 18 or in my case I also always keep a bottle of Teerenpeli Kaski.
Really wanna try a Winter Storm or any other ice wine finish, since I heard it's disappointing. Unfortunately it's nowhere to be found. IPA, XX, Fire & Cane ofc are already pre-ordered. Travel retail will be mine as soon as lock down is lifted.
Overall, everything that I had from Glenfiddich so far was totally worth it.
Question guys: I was lucky enough to have some of the Select Cask recently and loved it. Unfortunately since - as you said - it's a travel exclusive, I can't find it anywhere... which other Glenfiddich would you recommend to me if I really liked the Select Cask. Thank you!
Love the Glenfiddich 15 year. About the best I can afford in the U.S.. If I was still making submarine patrols out of Holy Loch, would go for Bells.
CZcams Recommendation on point for the start of the New Year!
Absolutely lovely, all of them. Even my dad liked it and mooched almost the entirety of my 18 off of me đ
I have two comments. First a solera is a system of interconnected casks that are used to age Spanish sherry. The youngest wine is poured into the top of the system, and the aged wine is drawn from the bottom. Second, a bottle that I try to have at all times is a liter of Grant's. This whisky is a blend that I understand is made by Glenfiddich. It has the triangular bottle that is or was typical of the Glenfiddich line. The attraction for this retired teacher is that Trader Joe's has the Grant's liter bottle for $15.
Got myself the 12, 15, 18, 21 and 26 year sitting up on my whiskey shelf. Just waiting for the 30 to be on special so I can pick that one up next. 26 is amazing, so I am really looking forward to the 30.
Are you looking for friends? I wonder how close you are to me.
I love the 26 year old bottle, will buy another one one day
The 18yo was my favorite Glenfiddich but the Macallan for me is my best of choice.
One of my most favorite whiskey brands
I'm a pretty big fan of the 15 Solera and the 18! ~Mark
Great info! Thank you guys
VERY enjoyable VIDEO to wash ,.. THANKS !!
Our pleasure! ~Mark
Oh there's also the new 23 year old Grand Cru and the 26 year old Excellence. In my area they are $330 and $500 respectively. I was curious and looked it up and found 40 Year old for $3899.99.
one of my fav. brands of wiskey, hope to get the winter strom some day
Unless you have tried it and liked it, I would advise against it. I work in a bar and its one of our most expensive scotches that isn't locked away, however it is not worth the money
I bought a bottle of winter storm it cost me ÂŁ230 2yrs ago
Thank you so much for this! âïžâïžâïžâïžâïž
I have the 8 years old and the 18 excelence and they are really good.
I had the pleasure to taste the Grand Cru, a very pleasant dram with a french toast aroma and quite a tart quality to it.
According to Glenfiddich's rep, it's finished in Champagne cask (but apparently they can't label it this way due to Champagne name regulations).
Interesting! ~Mark
Love to see a review of the Grand Cru!
Oh yeah, Glenfiddich is more my cup of tea! I love the 12 year & 15 yo, but the blue cask is amazing as well! Can find it all around Asia, Duty Frees in Middle East and even in Madagascar, quite affordable! Get it if you can! Leckerrrr đ„đđ
Picked up the 30 year but it cost me more than $500, also picked up the Grand Cru. Canât wait to try them!
Grand cru is really good
30 year is going for $1300 at my local. Ha! Yeah right. I heard it was underwhelming but at that price Iâll never know
@@JazznRealHipHop I opened the 30 year door my 30th I thought it tasted good
There are 3 whiskies in the NAS Travel retail series. The Reserve Cask, Select Cask and Vintage Cask as part of the Cask series. Wish we could get the 14 year old here in South Africa.
In Israel, this bottle costs 46 $
Come - we will treat you!
The 50 that was in an LCBO in Toronto was stolen years ago :(
Scotch is my favourite sipping whiskey , love all frim Spreyside . Esp. Lagavaulen !
I get this in Canada I've gone threw two bottles...anyway great video as always Cheers guys!
The 14 year opps forgot to mention that
I don't know how I get here. That said, excelente video!
I have actually seen the 14 in the UK, back when i bought my first bottle of Glenfiddch 12 i did see the 14 but decided to start with the 12 first.
Thanks. I been drinking Knob Creek for awhile now, so I decidedto pick up a 14 yo bottle . Than realizedI know little about the drink , and discovered this video. You did great job guys at giving me more info than I though I wanted.
Amazing. I happened to be one of the whisky experts invited to create ProjectXX. Representing Africa.
I do love glenfiddich my favourite brand i do have to say if scotch for dummies want a sample of winter storm let me know lol
Laphoraig is my favourite right now. Give it try
Travel retail has a 3rd expression - Vintage Cask - which is peated, and AMAZING. If not for the highish price, I'd buy it every time I go through the airport.
I totally agree, The Vintage Cask is probably my favorite Glenfiddich ... Iâm sad to say Iâm not the biggest fan of their other whiskies but love the Vintage Cask
The Vintage and the 18 y.o. are my favourites. But for Glenfiddich, the Vinateg is just outstanding.
i have a bottle that I haven't uncorked yet... getting excited reading your comment
The best blended scotch was Kings Ransom produced by Whilliam Whitely of Leith That subsequently became The Edradour Distillery which now produces a single malt Scotch Edradour is the smallest distillery in scotland and from the taste of the product it is pretty clear it was the predominent scotch used to make Kings Ransom
Coming back at this in 2022. In Virginia the range starts at $65. Fun fact.
thanks for this info :)
I actually visited the distillery a few years back
12 year became the today's chivas in my country. Relatively cheap for a premium whisky can't go wrong as a Christmas gift. I prefer 18 which was around 50 euro and it is very smooth..
Thanks guys
Looks like they now bottle the 21 yr rum cask Gran Reserva in 43.2% ABV. I picked it up at a duty free in Seattle for $170 as a gift for my father in law đ
Thanks guys - can you add more explanation on flavours per bottle when doing reviews
Picked up the Original last year in the UK on offer, wouldn't pay the full price for it, just an average whisky in my opinion guys. The Project XX and the 15 Solera are my favourite Glenfiddich's.
Ć
Reserve cask is easily available at New Delhi, India Airport store for around $130 for 2.
Good work lads.
My fav!
Worked at the Fiddich for a while and I love the 15 yr old. 18 yr old good as is the 12 yr old. But I love the 15.
Can you do a video on the Glenlivet series..great videos btw
Great suggestion! We're always looking for the next line to cover...think you just figured that out for us! ~Mark
At $30, Glenfiddich 12 will always remain a staple in my home bar. Glenfiddich 15 is nice, but out of the whole range suffers the most from being 40% in my opinion. It's such a great profile yet feels so watered down. Would love to see a 46% version of this. 18 year is definitely a nice further maturation of the 12 with a higher sherry content and for $90, it's definitely one of the most affordable 18 years you can get in my area. Would love to see a 46% version of it too. When it comes to the 14 year, I had one bottle I enjoyed and one I did not. Not sure what that was about.
I've always heard the 12 year was a 90%/10% split of ex-bourbon/ex-oloroso with the 18 year being 80%/20% split. Not sure if that's true or not.
Out of the Experimental Series, I've only tried the IPA and Fire & Cane. I really did not like the IPA one, but I am not a big IPA beer fan so maybe that was why. I thought the Fire & Cane was a bit unharmonious, yet I really enjoy it. It is experimental after all and I appreciate Glenfiddich trying different things like that. Will probably try the Project XX next.
I have an old bottle of 15yr Solera with 43% ABV and it is SO much better ... sad
Definitely the 12 is a welcomed household staple. The butterscotch delivers! The 14 is remarkable, but definitely different in that leaning more towards American bourbon.
For a higher abv that many wished Glenfiddich lineup had, Iâve discovered a remarkable scotch in Glen Fohdry Darach Caribbean. A solid speyside at 47% with fruit burst from the Caribbean rum casks. Really solid scotch!
I saw winter storm and IPA at my LCBO when I bought my Glenfiddich 12 and definitely want to buy them now!
I Live in Canada
The 19-year-old bourbon cask is my favorite bottle
I own 100 of them
Only had 12 and 14 so far. 12 was decent as an entry level Scotch but the price had already gone up to $40-45/bottle when I got it around the time this video was released. 14 is leagues better and I got it for about $5 off putting it barely higher price than the 12. Hope I can grab the 15 at a reasonable price soon, I think I've been seeing it in the $70 range. The 18 being close to $100.
There are some decent GFs....but what's crazy is their entire range...go to their website and just browse....it's a bit too expansive I think... ~Mark
@@Scotch4Dummies I've heard good things about Fire and Cane from anyone who likes a bit of smoke. Comes at a affordable price, $45-50 I think. Might have to grab that one next.
There are three age of discovery releases. Bourbon, Madeira and Red Wine. I have a couple of Madeira release if you want one?
At a tasting for our upcoming wedding, I spotted they had they grand cru, after having a couple drams the bottle was about just under 2/3rdâs left, I offered the manager 100 pound for the bottle which he accepted đ. Did I get a steal
Very nice talk on Johnny Walker Whiskey. I prefer giid beer n goid wine rather than Whiskey. I drink beer or wine little drink weekend only. My favorite Whiskey is Johnny Walker blue label, black , green, gold, platinum, Shivas Regal, Jack Daniel. I drink one peg Whiskey during Christmas, New Year, Easter only.
good beer n good wine than Whiskey.
So my bro bought me a 26 rare oak for my birthday and I canât go back. It was the best bottle of whisky Iâve ever had. I donât know which one to downgrade to đą, or Iâm gonna go broke
Great rundown guys! The Project XX is the only Glenfiddich I've had that I like, it's a solid pour. But their core range is just not for me, even for the prices. I've had the 12,14 and 15... Give me Glenmorangie for the same price or even cheaper. GlenMo 10 > Feddic 12. GlenMo Lasanta > Feddic 14. GlenMo Quinta Ruban > Feddic 15. Definitely try that Project XX, Cheers!
been drinking the 14 for years here in Australia
I still have a 18 YO that came in their classic triangulated round box.
Same. That was my first introduction into scotch as a birthday present.
@@SolarEclipz6 exactly the same for me !
@@SolarEclipz6 also my first scotch. It was my late brother's favorite, so my first dip into whiskey I jumped in the deep end with his favorite.
I found a 40 in a borderstore between denmark and germany, think they sold it for around 4000 dollars.
Love the 18yđ
just got the 14 in France (supermarket, no fancy liquor shop), so I'm pretty sure it's not US exclusive , at least not anymore
Was spirits for dummies taken?
Love this content. But more then scotch
The twelve for $35? Where? Maybe the 350ml bottle but not the 750ml!
I just bought an 18 year old and it is in a triangle box. Iâm in Canada so our prices very different. The 21 year old is hard to get and goes for just under $400. Great video guys!
I have the glenfiddich small batch reserve bottle in my hand right now and the bottle says it is 43 percent abv
I loved the IPA edition - for me it hit all those fruity notes you'd expect to associate with a IPA palet
I like the fire & Cane
I just recently purchased a bottle of the 12 i have had any yet
Wish more of their core range was above 40% ABV. The 12, 15, and 18 are high quality but they add way too much water.
Does anyone know for how long did they age the IPA whiskey before finishing it for 3 months?
There is another bottle I was fortunate enough to taste in Basel, Switzerland - Glenfiddich Snow Phoenix. Absolutely spectacular!
Jealous on this one... love the name of the bottle, just haven't had the pleasure of trying it yet.... ~Mark
I have an unopened bottle of 30YO I bought in Schiphol airport in 2001. Iâm saving it for a special occasion. Iâm afraid that special occasion will be my funeral and Iâll die never having tasted it. I had better get to drinking soon!
Oddly, have never acquired a taste for this Scotch. Have tried them all and given them a good college try. Settled on - of all Scotches - Bowmore 12. Hint of peat, cinnamon afterglow. Also prices out at a fraction of the cost. Does that make me a prude?
I take Tomatin 12 over Glenfidich 12 any day. And cheaper too. It is what it is, good thing everyone likes their own.
Naw, it doesn't make you a prude. After spending many a college row consuming Glenfiddich in my younger days, the thought of drinking it brings back memories of turned stomachs and incredible hangovers. Tastes change as we get older...30 years ago, i never would have ever considered drinking a heavy Spanish red wine. Now, it's flavors appeal to me. Same thing with scotch, i tried many different brands until i settled on a smoky Oban 12...it's flavor profile appeals to me more over that of Glenfiddich. They make a good scotch, over all, but my tastes have changed to something else, and in a few more years, i may find another brand that i might find more appealing flavor wise than the Oban 12.
i see the green baseline one in local tesco stores all the time! they must be doin somethin right...
Bee around a long time!! ~Mark
@@Scotch4Dummies I must try it then! Cheers
Is there anything out there affordable, as smooth as Jonny Walker Blue??
The reserve cask is widely available in the Netherlands for like âŹ45đ
Interesting! Ironically, I order a ton of whisky from online sites in the Netherlands! ~Mark
Impart knowledge, why don't you? I'm thinking I'm going to need to look for "Fire and Cane" next time I'm at Total Wine...Thank you!!!đ€
I got a bottle of Fire & Cane yesterday. It has quite a strong smokey hint and aftertaste.
