Please be mindful of the proof change with the Glenlivet 18. The old bottles are 86 proof and the new “batch reserve” is 80. Get the 86!

Accidentally bought the batch reserve a while back. Did you guys try that one too?
Yes this is what I was thinking when u showed the bottle. Need to find the 86 proof... but I haven't seen it 😪
Every 18 year old whiskey price is ridiculously gone up.
Thanks for the video, appreciate you guys helping me start the week right. Always fun, filled with good energy and good knowledge!
Given the results of these blinds, you should do a Glenlivet drinkthrough sometime
Awesome video. Really fun and interesting. And useful for me to watch as a scotch newbie
Wow... did not expect that! Now for a peated 18 year old blind - Laphroaig, Springbank, Talisker, Oban, Caol Ila, Highland Park
Would be fun to see how Highland Park would measure up against other peated ones, especially since it was in this blind as well
Maybe a 16-19 year to bring Lagavulin and Ardbeg into the mix
Great idea. That would be entertaining!
Great video. My first single malt was Glenlivet 12 some 20 years ago. Haven't had Glenlivet in a long time. You're convincing me to explore that line now.
This is a great example of why I'm super big on blinding bottles. It's really easy to know what you paid for a bottle and project quality and enjoyment into that whiskey. Tasting and preferences is mostly mental and when you take out that mental association to price tag things start happening. Scotch is a small part of my whiskey collection and I mostly drink bourbon and rye. Getting into the hobby I immediately started chasing all the buffalo trace products and, sadly, got suckered into paying over retail on a few bottles. Those bottles went into blinds against similar mash and ABV bottles and ALWAYS placed near the bottom. Each person has different preferences but I find that blinds really start to weed out preconceptions from preferences. EHT Small Batch, Weller SR, and Blantons all place lower in blinds for me than basic Buffalo Trace. Most Non-LE Buffalo Trace products are super light on oak flavor and really don't taste like old whiskey (most is only 6-8 years old, excluding ER). The youth on basic Buffalo Trace might be why I prefer it over the other bottles - it's not just a watered down fruit juice. It still has a little bite and complexity.
Need more of these blinds, another 12 year would be nice
Interesting review - the battle of the "Glens".
This was so much fun!!! Cheers!!
This one was great, thanks
Excellent video. I had the pleasure to have tried the Glenmorangie, Glenlivet, Highland Park, and Glendronach. I am a Glenmorangie fan, so the 18 is my go-to when I want something nice (and for the price in VA (around $105)) is a great value. The Glenlivet (the previous release) is a wonderful drink. My friend and I tried the current and previous versions, and the previous version had an edge on the current release.
Really fun video. My guesses, based on just the descriptions, lined up exactly with the guy on the left. That Glendronach 18 is one of my all time favorites. Glad to see The Glenlivet get some love though.
Blind test is really interesting, hope more episodes on this
Thanks Guys, really appreciate this one. I am trying to get more into Scotch (other than Islay which is my fav) and this will help.
Cheers!
Really entertaining. Thanks guys for suffering through that for us. I'll be picking up a bottle of your winner next.
Best review on single malt scotch whisky I’ve seen so far…awesome
Would love to see some 12 vs 18 to see of the extra years made much of a change and if the 18 is worth the extra cost. HP 12 vs HP 18 for example.
This drink though and the Glenlivet drink though, has encouraged me to buy my first scotch ever. I ended up grabbing the Glenlivet Nadurra Oloroso, which has a beautiful fruit forward malt pallet and aroma for days upon days! Thank you so much for the original content, and please keep up the brand drink through - they are really enjoyable. Cheers!
Cheers!
Wow, not only was this double blind entertaining but educational as well. Good job gentlemen! But if you really want to be in the pressure cooker get someone to nominate you for Roy Aqvavitae’s blind whisky challenge.
Good job guys...This makes me reconsider joining your memberhsip...This is useful
Tremendous segment guys!
The Glenlivet 18 is the Toyota of Scotch. Always reliable. Always smooth.
This was great!!!
Great video!
Picked up the Glenmorangie for $99, my first 18 year old single malt, and was not disappointed. Really want to try the Highland Park as I am a huge fan of their 12 year old release.
Nice vid, might have to explore into the Glenlivets a little deeper hmm 🤔
yall are great thanks picked out my christmas eve scotch because of this challenge! Happy H0lidays!
honest and funny you guys !
Fun episode! Do one on 18 blended scotch or the extra anejo tequilas
Macallan 18 always. Been buying it for 25 years. Never disappoints.
Except when blinded, haha.
No one ever said it's bad. It's just not worth the price. Should be twice as good.
Glen-dronhocccccccck! I love learning the proper pronunciation of the iconic Scotch distillery. I may have to look for a Glenlivet 18 some day since it isn't crazy expensive for the age.
I appreciate your videos so much. It shows me what I should spend my hard earned money on.
I really enjoy your videos. Especially the blinds. I have a bottle of 18 year Glendronach bottled on June 4, 2020 that I have an opened yet. I have tasted the MacAllan 18. I believe it's overrated for its price point. I can't wait to taste the Glendronach, the McAllen 18 and the Glenfarclas 25 side-by-side. What are you guys think of the Glennfarkless 25? I would definitely be picking up that Glenlivet 18.
*Logs into liquor app and places orders
I had my favorite from the first 10 seconds of the video and I'm SO HAPPY that you guys picked my favorite scotch as the grand reveal for the 18's at 16:23. Better than that, NONE of you thought it was that scotch, which made it ever so much nicer.
EDIT: A couple fantastic 18's you can add to your list. Try the Ancnoc 18 and the Aberfeldy 18 finished in Cabernet Sauvignon cask, and also the Dalmore 18.
Cool review! You can tell the sherry bombs just by color in the lineup. Curious if there’s any coloring added to any of these.
shock result! Glendronach in this lot for me. I do enjoy the Glenivet 18 and I got my last bottle from Costco at $56. Should have bought more!!
Need some Bunnahabhain 18 love! I think it would stack up well, but from the sounds of it, Glenlivet may still end up the winner.
Bunna -18 is my fave of all time. And I choose that over 21 year olds
Great vid.
I was really on the fence about buying a glenlivet 18 but after seeing this I’m buying a bottle this weekend.
Glendronach 18 is my fav of all times!
Gracias!
I enjoyed this. Thanks guys. I am a big fan of HP18 but every single Glenlivet I have tried has been a major fail. I haven't had the 18 year before so I am willing to accept your conclusion for now. Maybe I will find a 50 ml mini someday and if I do I will buy it and try it.......
Wow whiskey prices have skyrocketed. I would have liked to see how you ranked the bottles from 1-6.
Wow! I was not expecting that! Looks like I might need to get a bottle of Glenlivet 18.
FYI. The old 18 is 86 proof. The new “batch reserve” bottles are 80 proof. We used the 86 proof old style. Cheers!
@@CuriosityPublic Well... That's a little disappointing lol. Maybe I can still find an old one.
Thanks guys…added the Glenlivet 12 & 18 to my shelf…and lightened my wallet by about $180.00….
The 18 was what i was expecting …
The 12 was the surprise for just how well rounded it is…and at that price point
I love the GlenDronach!
Good stuff guys - Glendronach 18 is my favorite 18 or Bunnahabhain 18
As always much respect for trying 6 Scotches in one go. So tell the truth. Since you had the samples poured already, did anyone try blending the 6 together, and how was it?
Talisker 18 is my favorite of the 18 yr standard releases. Adding it in would also have added some ambiguity to the tasting since it would be a second lightly peated.
Yes, Talisker might have taken it.
Deanston 18, Oban 18, Bunnahabhain 18, Ledaig 18, Arran 18. So many great 18's out there.
Aberlour 18 guys!! Asides from being perfectly balanced, It is usually under $85 and widely available
Good one, looks like a fun task! The thing though is that the Glenlivet 18 on the shelves right now (40% abv and different bottle) is different from what you tasted… I have tried what you have here and it is very good!
Thanks! Yes we noted the proof change in the comments but failed to in the video. Check out out Glenlivet Drinkthrough where we try them both. Cheers!
@@CuriosityPublic Nice, thanks, will do! Slainte!
awesome content
This is by far the Ultimate blind tasting of 18yr old bottles.
My friends and I did the same thing and 18yr old Glenlivet won. But then we blind tasted the Glenlivet 15 vs the 18 weeks later, the 15yrs old Glenlivet won! 4 out of 5 chose the 15 over the 18.
Welp, guess I gotta go get some Glenlivet 18. Great vid, guys!
Please be mindful of the proof change. The old bottles are 86 proof and the new “batch reserve” is 80. Get the 86! - Dillon
@@CuriosityPublic thanks for the tip!
Gotta admit, Glenlivet 12 is really good. Never had the 18 but I will try to find it fooorrr sure now. Thanks CP!!
Please be mindful of the proof change. The old bottles are 86 proof and the new “batch reserve” is 80. Get the 86! - Dillon
@@CuriosityPublic 10-4 Sir Dillon. Will do! Thanks for the heads up #botl
@@CuriosityPublic can't anymore. boooo
Great job gents. Where are you located / broadcasting from?
we're based in southern california.
Here in Czech Republic in the middle of Europe we get both Glenfiddich 18 and Glenlivet 18 for about the same price - which would be around 80-90 dollars.
You can’t beat that Glenlivet 18 man and the 21 is similar with a richer taste. I personally wasn’t a fan of the Glenmorangie 18. My two favorites are the Glenlivet 18 and glenfiddich 18. My wife is going to get me the Highland Park 18 for the christmas. I can’t wait to try it! The only thing that sucks is the price on these whiskeys has sky rocketed.
Would love to see Arran 18 in the next 18 year old battle!
arran 18 would beat them all hands down
Love yr review: it goes to show, we are ALL brain-washed by the industry and promo. . . AND when yr tste buds faced an assault of flavours, yr brain gives up ! ! ! haha
I love the blind taste testing.
But I wonder what would happen if you did the exact same test with the exact same bottles 3-weeks later but shuffled the order. I've found what I drink first will impact everything else I drink even if I have water and coffee beans to smell in-between.
aw no Chivas 18? wonder how that would have stacked up against these, it's the only 18yr i've tried so far but been eyeing the Glenfiddich. cheers! 🥃
Favorite 18s glendronach, and glengoyne
Just finished a bottle of the Macallan sherry cask, and was a little disappointed. My favorite right now is the Macallan double cask.
Very entertaining, such a tough assignment.
What month is the glendronach? The distillery started back up around may/June from what I read, so an early 2020 would be the oldest you could end up with.
Yes the 2020 bottling is still the old stuff. The new batches are set to release in September 2021.
Not surprised. Best! Guys check out Ralfy's review on Glenlivet 18
depends what you are looking for. i prefer the mac 18 as the quality of sherry cask is unsurpassed. great review though thank you
Many people agree that Macallan is very overrated. It's good, but not worth the bloated price over comperable scotches. Often a Macallan scotch is on par with other scotches half the cost.
With todays whiskey and especially bourbon crazed market, the 18-YO level of scotch is probably the best bang for your buck if you’re looking for tremendous whiskeys. Good review guys. After that as you go higher diminishing returns on your $$$$
You guys better start paying more respect to the two time champ!
My aunt was just asking what to buy her coworker that likes single malts. I said you can’t go wrong with any of the Glen. She ended up getting Glenfiddich 12. This is some of my favorite content from you guys! Keep them coming!
It would be interesting as a non blind ( obviously impossible now ) to know if confirmation bias would have lead to you all choosing Macallan as the best keeping the price in mind.
Love the Glenlivet 18--it can be as cheap as $60 in Japan.
Here in the east coast of state the glenlivet cost 115-125 and is my favorite.. I used to buy the 21 but it’s too expensive now that I can’t afford anymore so I switched to the 18yr for the last 8 yrs
you need to review the islay whiskeys
I'm sure if Bunnahabhain 18 was in the lineup, she'd wipe the floor with all of these. Good job gents.
We definitely have so many 18 year bottles to get through. We have that along with a bunch of others. We wanted to start with the “common” bottles but we hope to get to them soon for round 2,3,4,5... Cheers!
@@CuriosityPublic Do it!!!!!
the only two i have are the Glenlivet and the Highland Park. wondering how they will rank!! (EDIT) i was surprised the only two i own finished so high!!
Great video
My friend bought me a bottle of Glenlivet 18 when I retired &
I shared it with 8 friends . ( I’m a very good friend - Lol )
HANDS DOWN THE BEST Scotch / Whisky !💯✅🥃
You guys should send me another bottle 🤞🏼
Was the friend that bought it one of the friends you shared it with?)
I tried the Glenlivet and the Glenfiddic , for me hands down the glenfiddich is far way more superior
Its my favourite. The 18 and 21 glenfedich
Agreed. Glenlivet was a huge disappointment. Glenfiddich, Macallan, Glenmorangie all beat Glenlivet imo. Glendronach and Highland Park I haven't tried yet.
Most underrated Scotch is Glen Scotia 15.
Just checked my bottle of Glendronach 18 and it is actually a 24 year old!
Glenlivet #1? Guess our pallets DEFINITELY don't line up. I would have Glendronach #1 and Glenmorangie #2. Cool blind though, if the Glenlivet 18 is at Costco for $80 again maybe I'll grab it....... maybe
I tried to do this with friends but unfortunately it didn't work. Some of the picks that got high marks tasted completely different the next day. This is probably to do with the mixing of whiskies on our palette which then makes the whisky taste differently than it normally did. Good fun though 👌
I have a Glenlivet 18, it was ok
Ok but Glenfiddich, Bowmore, Aberlour, Oban, Macallan, Mackmyra, Glenmorangie, Bunnahabhain all taste better to me.
Great video, Guys. Thanks Dillon for answering my IG DM re: Macallan 18 Sherry Cask.
Picked up the Glenlivet 18 and a little disappointed it is 40abv. Glinfiddich 18 is far superior IMO
The Singleton of Glendullan 18yr is where it's at.
Glenlivet 18 absolutely.
Need Ledaig 18 and Ancnoc 18
Blind taste that Glenlivet 18 Vs. 15.
Let's see if you can guess which is which.
Glenmorangie overrated cire range, except for their Quinta Ruban.
I’d love to see these Non Chill Filtered. No reason to do it.
No arberlour? 😑
i did this blind and the macallan came out on top , glenlivet finished off way too bitter.
18 year Scotch, over $100 , 40% abv and chill filtered. I say they look real good on the store shelf, and choose to leave them there. Let's see how they can maximize profits when they are 0%!
How about Chivas 18
My bet is on Glendronach 18 before I even watch the video.. for anyone who is into speyside & does not care for the smoky flavor.
