You have restored my day! and saved my weekend! I really enjoy Conan Doyle non-Sherlock stories and you do such a wonderful reading of them. Thank you so much.

Thanks so much. I looked at the picture and asked myself the name of the painting. I have a feeling it is near Wapping Docks, then I thought it is obviously a Grimshaw. Looked him up in Wiki. but could not see that particular painting. I know I tracked the name of that painting when it was used on another Magpie Audio item.

I have to say that in my opinion, Greg Wagland is simply the best Sherlock narrator ever. I have listened over and over to all his readings, and in some cases, he was my only resort to falling asleep whilst he took me back to an incredibly clever fictional past. Another thing, the painting accompanying this story 'The Black Doctor', has been so effective at time travel, that I've actually had dreams whilst asleep, and wandered these streets of the Liverpool docks at night, and visited a lot of the orange lit establishments. It has made me want to research and purchase a print of this outstanding painting by John Atkinson Grimshaw. Thank you Greg, and thank you Magpie Audio for the timeless treasures you have bestowed upon us, again and again.

When you can visualise a scene with ease and see the characters speaking their part with immediacy and emotional force then you know you're in the presence of a master narrator. Most unusual....
It would be an error to associate this story with any Sherlock Holmes story. Conan Doyle wrote few stories which involved a court case in the story, especially the banter between Judge and Advocate. He would, of course, have known various members of the Bar , and as usual, he has written yet another great story. Excellent!
