  • I decided i would show you guys a cool way to make some finishing paste that gives your steel a long lasting blackened shine. A few simple ingrediants and a little time is all it takes.
    Ingrediants:
equal parts Boiled linseed oil, turpentine, bees wax
Optional: add fragrance of your choice

I make and use the same thing. I call it "blacksmith butter". You're right to say you have to be careful when making it...turpentine will burn like the blazes of Hell.

I use equal portions of johnsons paste wax, turp, bees, and boiled linseed. Catch is to melt beeswax, add johnsons, then boiled linseed. Keep them in the hot water until liquid. Then add the turpentine. I keep mine in a tea tin, with a dedicated rag. I bet the lemon definately adds something cool to it all, I never thought of that. Thanks James!

I make this stuff too and it works great.
Did you also know that as well as being a great metal finish and wood polish it also works great as a leather treatment for your boots?

Are use paraffin wax instead of beeswax and my blacksmith Gabe due to some of my customers allergies to bees

Does it need to be bees wax? Would parafin wax work as well? I can't seem to find bees wax here in any quantities except for a little bar for about $10.00 at the hardware store. Too expensive for me.

U would need to check the label to see but some wax rings for toliets are 100 present bees wax and a lot cheaper than buying it by the block
