Speaking from my personal experiences with little kids, I would say we are naturally selfish. Kids always fight, demand stuff and they are really bad at sharing. And they start to lie, even if nobody ever lied to them or in front of them. True story!

The problem with this question is it demands a black or white answer. Some humans are bad, some humans are good. Although, I think all humans are selfish. Not 24/7, but most of the time. Even with this recent Orlando shooting everyone starts talking about how it made THEM feel, even though none of them were involved. 9/10 a human will only do something if there is a benefit for them, even if that benefit is getting to gossip or brag about an act of kindness later during a dinner party or on social media. Social media is successful because it gives people a chance to talk about themselves and gossip about others.

Other kids went to pick it up because they wanted the teacher to like them, I could tell from their attitude.

A major percentage of humans are inherently good. Reason being if we were inherently bad then our world would cease to exist because we would end up destroying each other. Also, if we were all bad then there would be no doctors, nurses or any other professions that cares for others bad people are greedy, selfish, and care about no one but themselves. I believe that right now we have good and bad people in this world one balances out the other. We can only hope that we never see that balance move higher towards the bad.

I agree! Look at animals! They just act and they dont see this whole fake man made construct called good vs evil! There is only choice with humans! Evil and good are meangingless words......But I personally always have felt that humans in general have bugger tendencies towards selfish negative actions vs positive ones! Society is what makes people conform and conditions them to feel and act a certain way and after milleniums of conditions people dont even know what they truly are! They only do positive things or help others cuz thats what they were conditioned to do or cuz of selfish reasons to make them look good. People dont have the gift of selfishness. Doing good deeds has always been a result of conditioning! At the core humans dont or cant explain why they do positive or negative things! Negative actions is driven by selfish desires and positives actions is the same unfortunaltey........ If this construct of evil vs good were to actual be a real thing than I would say that people are defentely inherently bad and that society, norms, values, media, condtioing and more makes people hold back their evilness and selfish desires! If you could see into peoples hearts you would see people walking around filled with the most sadistic selfish thoughts imaginable! Humans nowayds are jsut like a product made in a factory! They are all made and profmrammed the same way and they dont even know it! They like to think that they are good cuz thats what society promotes but they are faking it deep down! There is a murderer inside of almsot every human.

If you were born in the 16th century and was raised by racist parents you would be racist. If you where born in the 3rd Century and was raised to believe something you would be ok with it since most of society at the time was ok with it. Good and bad are concepts humans use to decide. Most humans find robbing a bank evil but than there is another counter argument to this. If you really needed the money and your about to die would you still rob the bank? That’s the thing about the good and bad concept which humans made. Humans literally made good and bad so society wouldn’t go around killing each other for fun. Religion helps this matter as well

It's a matter of how much empathy somebody has (and probably some other things combined). Babies generally have a lot of empathy. They did studies where adults were "struggling" to complete simple tasks and the little kids always went over to help them. Around adolescence empathy plummets (at least for males), and my hypothesis for this is because that's a time you need to prove yourself and too much compassion will hold you back from performing a lot of selfish tasks (like competition over mates, hunting, proving you're not afraid to kill someone from another tribe, etc). Then later empathy is greater again.
Naturally we're all selfish, self-preservation, but empathy also serves a lot of evolutionary benefits so we have that. But empathy evolved later than aggression did, of course, so the aggression part tends to overpower the empathic part when triggered too strongly
Plus a whole bunch of other factors...

Humans can do many great things too like cure illnesses, donate to charity, look out for friends and family, look after one and other things. Therefore i think humans are both good and bad.

Compared to first world people where they can share food, because that loss of food won't really cause harm to them. Same for the baby: if saving the baby won't damage us, we will save it, but if saving the baby will cause some severe injuries to the person, that person would usually put their lives first.

    it might be the answer!!
humans evolved to be social and help each other so when people see a baby gonna fall down a hole and die their natural instincts kicks in and they help the baby, because humans are animals in packs think about it, familys stick together and people are in different groups as familys and so are wolves and other animals, if a baby wolf from a wolfs pack was being attacked another wold in its pack would see it because they work together, this does something with humans and so we would save the baby because it is part of our pack, or if its not part of our pack/family the person would probably save it because we evolved to be social.
