My wife asked me to watch this video, so that I could better understand what it is to be my caregiver. My story is somewhat similar in that what I thought was “Long Covid”, turned out to be stage 4 renal cell carcinoma. Coming out of the hospital post surgery (which was not successful), I was heavily medicated and dangerously underweight. Over the past six months she’s nursed me back to where I can live a somewhat normal life, focusing on fighting the cancer. After 22 years of marriage, and four kids, she has proven her commitment to “for better, or worse, in sickness, and in health”. I may be the one with cancer, but I don’t envy the position that she’s in. I’ll gladly take it because I can’t imagine if roles were reversed, or if it were one of the kids. She has been my rock, but I know she also has hurt, and fear, and struggles daily. My wife, my God, and prayer have sustained me to this point. I will do more to focus on her health and well being. God Bless.
My beautiful, lovely wife of 45 years was also totally unexpectedly diagnosed with stage 4 renal cell carcinoma that had already spread to her lungs and bones, after having anemia, persistent dry cough along with unexplained weight loss. I’m so very sorry for what you and your family are going through.
I am so new to this. I am 6 weeks in being a caregiver and I feel I am failing. Thank you for your message! Hope!
Thank you for this! Lord knows I’m trying everyday . Juggling my fiancés colon cancer and 2 babies alone is so hard. Some days I wanna give up but I can’t . My church family and deep prayer helps me along with exercises and self care but I have my days. Love and light to you all 💕🤲
Wow, Jenny - we are thinking about you here at The Patient Story. We are trying to expand our caregivers voices. Would you be interested in sharing your story? If so, can you reach out to community@thepatientstory.com. Thank you so much for watching.
I’ll have y’all in prayers! May God strengthen y’all. And may y’all feel His warmth in the uncertainty 😊

Thank you so much for sharing. You are a wonderful husband ❤
Take care of yourself before you take care of others!
My brother was diagnosed with leukemia right at 4 months after having Covid
Same with my dad …
So sorry to hear this! Are there any topics that would be helpful for us to cover?
@@ThePatientStory I think the emotional roller coaster cancer diagnosis has on families. In particular, low income families with children diagnosed with cancer.
I’m so proud of you for talking about this. How did they know definitively right away at urgent care that it was leukemia?
Hi Sarah! Thank you so much watching.
Here's Joe's article, it's a little more in depth and talks more about this.
