I know four guys that had these cars when they were new. One friend of mine still has his 64 T-bolt. Not many original ones left. The first ten, or so, were painted Maroon, the rest were White, from the factory.

I've had the Tasca version of this T-Bolt on the prep table for a while, just thinking of how I want to do it. It's a great kit - you're absolutely right about those panel lines. They're ready for foil right out of the box. Good luck - I can't wait to see it.👍

IIRC There is a short history about the Thunderbolts on the front page of the Revell instruction sheets.
From what I can recall is that these cars were prepared for Ford by a company named Dearborn steel tubing. These cars were sold through Ford dealers for race teams. Some Ford dealers had their own race teams such as Tasca & Russ Davis. The titles for these cars stated on them for race use only. They could not be titled for street use. They also had no warranty at all.

    Hey Matthew,
I heard you mention spraying CA kicker on something. I learned of a great tip not long ago. To fill a small bottle with the kicker and use a micro brush (teeny tiny q-tip) to place the kicker precisely where it's needed both saving on the expensive kicker and avoiding kicker residue all over the model. It's worked really well for me.
I Hope it helps you as well.

Nice ! Oldee but Goody ! I bought this kit when it first came out as well as the Tasca kit that came out around the same time. 30+ years ago,I was the manager of Allied Hobbies in Langhorne, Lower Bucks Co.,Pa. They had 8 Hobbyshops within a 20 mile radius. They were REAL Hobbyshops, not a Micheals crafts or hobby lobby. Anyway ,I managed my store for roughly 3 years.
Every payday I would snatch up the new releases b4 they'd
hit the shelves. I had the idea of building my ass off which never happened but I kept all my unbuilt kits in a closet of my parents home.
I stopped building over 30 years ago but thanks to Hpiguy utuber, I put a hold on selling my entire collection and decided to get back into it,hook, line and sinker. Anyway,it was fun working at this hobbyshop cuz I got to know fellow car model builders. "I" was responsible for bringing Fred Cady Decals,as well as detail masters sparkplug wires ,fuzzy dice, and so forth. Back then,NO other Hobbyshops carried aftermarket accessories for car model building. Sorry for ranting and strolling down memory lane. Again, not too long ago,I was just about to sell EVERYTHING. I am happy I didn't.
    Thanks 4 reading.

This car and the Dodge 330's are a pain for Bare Metalling, so much on these cars. I did mine in sections, the front fender, door, and then the back end side of car. Also clear coat the Bare Metal and Decal when done. Seal the Bare Metal even if no decals. Also like on your daughter's Mustang she did, lay decals 1st then Bare Metal as the Decal will lay under the Bare Metal ☺ Nice Job 😎

Just a little FYI if I got this right?. I grew up in the '60s then a preteen. Russ Davis was a Ford dealer in Covina California. Very close to Irwindale Speedway and Pomona . Pomona being home of the Winternationals. I lived about 5 mi from one and 10 mi from the other. Russ Davis' dealership bought and sponsored this car. He also sponsored another famous driver to us called Gas Rhonda. Drove a funny car Mustang. Later killed racing??.
These were big East and West Coast dealerships using virtually the same type of car. Tasca Northeast and doing primary racing there? Davis SoCal and big racing name there. So I'm an old guy now debating if I'm going to build this car or not. I also have Gas Rhondas car called Polar Lights. Maybe that one? Thanks for great builds. You are good at what you do.

Thanks Michael, I built this several years back so I hope I've improved since then. My Dad always talked about the Tasca T bolt when I was a kid so I've had a great interest in these cars because of that. Hope you're able to build yours.

  • @nathanpitts1591

I think this is a great model kit. In fact I have one coming that is why I looked at your video. You did a real nice job and that is a great car to model that has a lot of history. I am planning on buying the air gun set up from Harbor Freight. I am not surprised at your criticism of it. But money is tight for me and I can't do good work using rattle cans.
I like your video but do have a small criticism. I don't know what you used for a camera but would suggest that you try to use a camera that is held in a fixed mount and you move the pieces you want seen to in front of the camera lens.........instead of moving the camera. The rapid movement and continuing auto focus makes it hard for me to follow. If you look at other model vids on you tube you will see a lot of them that do as I suggested. That makes it much easier to watch and understand.
Keep up the good model work and see if you can't find a bit better method of camera usage.

Try rubbing the remaining primer with some 99% IPA. I had problems with removing lacquer primers (e.g., Tamiiya) with brake fluid and it looked just like what you ended up with, but rubbing it with an old toothbrush with some 99% IPA cleared everything up real nice

I got both the Russ Davis and Tasca Ford kits back when they were new in the early 90s. Traded a friend a couple of models to build the Tasca Ford one for me. Then I built the Russ Davis car myself. I decaled right over the orange plastic and clear coated it. There was no internet back then so I didn't really know the right colors everything was painted. Probably would have been some pictures in books or old hot rod magazines, but I didn't have any back then. I do remember it was the first model I bare metal foiled, it turned out great. But with the effort it took (and cost) I haven't done that on many models since. I also had just gotten testors single action airbrush with the air can. So that is what I sprayed the chassis and interior with.

Just a tip: Always clear coat your decals if you are unsure of the age. Microscale also sells a brush on coating. It has saved my butt a few times on some rare decals The Fairlanes were sent to Dearborn steel tubing for their conversion into the Thunderbolt. I bought my paint from www.scalefinishes.com in the correct Poppy red that the real car came in.
