    Does anyone remember Attack Of The Mutant Camels on C64? Loved that game.

      Never played it as a kid, but remember thinking the Llamasoft games seemed awesome. Did just now record it for a video and realised that it’s an Empire Strikes back clone 😁

      @@gearsofgames That's ace!

    There's no doubt this game looks the part, but I agree with previous comments - it just doesn't have the frantic 'defender' style arcade speed from the original, which is the one thing that made it so much fun. Attack of the Mutant Camels for the C64 is a lot more playable.

      I haven't played either version that much, but I think I have to agree too, the more I think about it. The 2600 version has a better feel to it and also feels a bit easier to control.

    This game is beautiful, if not a little frustrating. As a rule I don't ordinarily go in for trainers, but I may use one here just to see the end. Because I can't make it far otherwise.

    • @gearsofgames
      @gearsofgames  Před měsícem +1

      Yeah, it does feel a bit tricky to get into. The Atari 2600 version was surprisingly easier to get into also felt that the controls felt better. But maybe I just need some more time to get used to the C64 version..

      @@gearsofgames It's just too zoomed in. You don't get enough forewarning of what's coming. But zoom it out any further and it impacts those beautiful graphics.

      Yeah, would be a shame to make everything smaller, looks gorgeous now. I found it hard to hit the right speed as well, making me coming in way too fast and colliding with the projectiles.

    "Alert all commands. Calculate every possible destination along the last known trajectory." Yes my lord, we'll find them. "Don't fail me again!... Admiral." Love Vaders lines! Anyway, nice game. "That armor's too strong for blasters!"

      "I want that ship, not excuses." was one that I especially remember from the arcade conversion... 😁

    The Atari version was one of the first game sI got for my 2600, loved it, such a simple but playable game. :)

      It is still quite fun to play today.

  • @goddessesstartrekonlinefle3061

    Great looking game, well animated, but the gameplay feels lackluster to me (impressive coding though). In fairness that may be becuase it's replicating a poor game; Atari 2600 games always felt a bit empty for me having grown up with Atari 800XL games (though Adventure is definitely an exception, I guess Empire Strikes back was clearly not one). Then I guess all our game tastes are a little unique :D.

    • @gearsofgames
      @gearsofgames  Před měsícem +1

      Going from an 800XL to a 2600 would have been a bit tough 😁 There would still have been some fun 2600 games, but the downgrade would still have been significant.

      The gameplay of Atari 2600 is actually faster and more frantic

    • @gearsofgames
      @gearsofgames  Před měsícem +2

      @@litjellyfish Yeah, the 2600 version actually plays and controls a bit better, I would say.

    • @litjellyfish
      @litjellyfish Před měsícem +1

      @@gearsofgames and plays a lot faster. I think those commodore versions play a bit slower also due to tech reasons (not slower as slow screen update but gameplay speed)

    This game has nice graphics and music, but I don't like the gameplay. The walkers on the Atari 2600 version always took a set number of shots to destroy, assuming you didn't hit the bomb hatch and destroy them instantly. In this version, every shot has a random chance of hitting or missing. Games like this are supposed top depend on skill, not luck. Also, the 2600 version had an option to make the walkers solid so that you had to avoid crashing into them, but no such option exists here.
    Superior graphics, inferior gameplay. :(

    • @gearsofgames
      @gearsofgames  Před měsícem

      The game play did feel better in the original, better balanced and felt more satisfying. But should probably play both versions more...
